Problem/Issue
•Low reduction of underweight pre-school children whichaverage to 1 % in 2002-2008 from 12.8 in 2006 to 12.4 in2007 and 12.4 in 2008.•Increasing number of nutritionally depressed municipalitiesfrom 14 in 2006 to 17 in 2008 with 295 nutritionallydepressed barangays
Background/NationalPolicyEnvironment
•Several Nutrition Related Legislations were passed such as PD491 in 1974; PD 1569 in 1978; E.O. 51 in 1988; RA 7160 n1991; RA 7600 in 1992; RA 8175 in 1995; RA 8976 in 2000and RA 8980 in 2000 among others were passed at thenational level•Poverty is still the major development problem in the countryas Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Goal 1 is to eradicateextreme poverty and hunger.
PrevailingSituation
•Malnutrition in the province is caused by lees food available inthe household, large family size, low family income thatresulted to poor health status.•Another causes identified were frequent illnesses; insufficientsupply of micronutrients and poor environmental sanitation aswell as cultural beliefs or rejection of community to somehealth services.•Only the RA 8172 or Salt Iodization Act was localized byissuing Provincial Ordnance No. 016-2003 as well as the MilkCode ( EO 51) and Breastfeeding was passed.(RA 7600) wereadopted locally.

POLICY MEMO
Data from CBMS will definitely enrich existinglocal development indicator system and certainlyhelp in analyzing sector-specific indicators thatwould result in better identification of interventionsand beneficiaries to address the MDGs
CBMS sector and spatial data facilitates theinterface between the CLUP and the CDP, as wellas, strengthen the link between and amongsectors and physical resources in the preparationof the PDPFP
