2. WARMING UP In order to introduce the topic of my mission-based project "Sabor". We began with a whole school assembly where some performers took us on a "trip" through different Hispanic countries. They showed us some "moves and told us about the history of different Latino styles like tango, salsa, mambo, etc. This really left students hungry for more information! 3. THE MISSION The theme for this year s Hispanic Heritage Month is: Many backgrounds, many stories, one American spirit. The term Hispanic encompasses a wide array of characteristics. Yet, when they immigrate into this country they are all faced with a common culture which is foreign to all of them.Your mission is to find evidence that shows how music has helped Hispanic immigrants integrate their culture with the culture in the United States. 4. GET TALKING!We used Voicethread to start talking about different Latin music styles. My questions were Do you know any Latin music styles? Name one. Which country is it from? Do you know any communities from that country that live here in the U.S? Where?http://voicethread.com/share/2233110/ 5. WHAT MAKES A GOOD PROJECT? Students worked in small groups to create a rubric for their project. During this process they brought up the idea of having a competition and voting for the best project. Then the second question came up: How do we decide what makes the best project? RUBRIC Original, Interesante , informativo_________ 10 puntosCreativo (color, arte, etc)________10 puntosGramtica Correcta________10 puntosFotos, Audio y Video_________ 10 puntosTrabajo en equipo________TOTAL:10 puntos50 PUNTOS. PREMIO: 15 puntos de exmen No tarea viernes y lunes de una semana 5 puntos de extra credito dulces 6. TAKE CHARGE! Students decided on which role they wanted to take for their group project. 7. THEN THEY STARTED TO GATHER INFORMATION. THEY USED EDMODO AND HAIKU AS PLATFORMS TO COMMUNICATE. STUDENTS ALSO DECIDED ON WHICH DEVICES TO USE FOR THEIR PROJECT. AMONG THOSE DEVICES ARE VOICE RECORDERS AND BLOGGIES. 8. RESEARCHING: VISIT TO AMERICAN SABOR AT THE SMITHSONIAN 9. INTERVIEWING 10. USING THE COMPUTER LAB TO DO RESEARCH 11. FIRST ROUND OF PRESENTATIONS 12. USING I-PODS TO INTERVIEW THEMSELVES AND CREATE PODCASTS.
