Psalm 1:1-6 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands
in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and
night.
3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its
fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does
shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the

The word for “Law” is Torah. Torah means “instruction”, and it refers to the Bible, es-
pecially to the 5 books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuter-
onomy. God gave us His Torah to instruct us to walk in His ways and know what is
right and what is wrong. We are to do His Torah, love it, and meditate in it day

The ungodly are described as “chaff which the wind drives away”. Have you ever
gone on a picnic on a windy day? What happened when you left a napkin or an empty
paper plate on the table? Chaff is even lighter than that! The lives of the ungodly are
short. Quickly, the wind blows them away!
Read Matthew 3:11-12. What does John say that Jesus will do to the chaff?

Psalm 1 Cross-References
All Scripture taken from the New King James Version.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is
the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its
roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And
will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:13 “O Lord, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed.
‘Those who depart from Me shall be written in the earth, Because they have forsak-
en the Lord, The fountain of living waters.’”
Matthew 3:11-12 “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is
coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will
thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He
will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
2 Corinthians 5:9-11 “Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be
well pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that
each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done,
whether good or bad. Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;
but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.”
John 4:10-14 “Jesus answered and said to her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it
is who says to you, “Give Me a drink,” you would have asked Him, and He would have
given you living water.’ The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, You have nothing to draw with,
and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than
our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his
sons and his livestock?’ Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this
water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will nev-
er thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water
springing up into everlasting life.’”
Romans 14:10 “But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for
your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.”
Romans 7:17 “for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and
lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their
eyes.”
1 Corinthians 3:9-17 “9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you
are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise
master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one
take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that
which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this founda-
tion with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will be-
come clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire
will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built
on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer
loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 16 Do you not know that you
are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the
temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you
are.”
