When a nation has a Christian heritageand has been established on moral

principles, if it slides away from God (andthus from the moral principles), it will be

judged by God according to the Bible inDeuteronomy 28, Deuteronomy 13, and

Genesis 19.

In Deuteronomy 28, God —throughMoses —is instructing the children ofIsrael to obey Him and not serve idols (orfalse gods). He tells them about the

blessings He will bestow on those whoobey Him.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2 says:

“ And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearkendiligently unto the voice of the L ORD thy God, toobserve and to do all his commandments which Icommand thee this day, that the L ORD thy Godwill set thee on high above all nations of theearth:

2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, andovertake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto thevoice of the L ORD thy God. ”

Verses 1-13 speak of all the ways God would blessthose who obey God. Verse 11-13 says (bold added for

emphasis):

Figure 1 -- America is rapidly decaying.

Figure 2 -- Rome collapsed because of moral decay.

” 11 And the L ORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit ofthy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the L ORD sware unto thy fathers togive thee.

12 The L ORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land inhis season, and to bless all the work of thine hand : and thou shalt lend unto manynations , and thou shalt not borrow.

13 And the L ORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail ; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the L ORD thyGod, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day,to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them .”

Are we obeying God? Do we love to serve God with our time? Do we want to know God’s name byhaving an intimate relationship with Him? Or, do we have idols in our lives? Do we do things our own

way rather than doing things God’s way? Has the TV taken the place of reading from God’s word and prayer? These are serious questions to consider. God has not changed and God cannot change (Hebrews13:8, James 1:17).

James 1:17 says:

“Every good gift and every perfectgift is from above, and comethdown from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness,

neither shadow of turning.”

There is no variableness with God, the Father oflights. He does not change. Theft is still theft.Adultery is still adultery. In fact, Jesus made itclear that adultery is not just taking anotherman’s wife, but looking at a woman with lust inone’s heart . Jesus did not lower his standards. Heraised them to show that there is no way we canfulfil the law.

James 2:10 says:

” For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty ofall.”

Jesus fulfilled the law and died on the cross in our place. And, because we still have a sinful nature, weare still able to sin and we are still able to rebel against God and reject Jesus Christ, even after we havegotten saved (see Hebrews 3).

If we reject God, we are hardening our hearts. Jesus warned Christians in Revelation chapters 2 through 3.

Revelation 3:5 says:

5 He that overcometh , the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot outhis name out of the book of life , but I will confess his name before my Father, and beforehis angels.

This statement was made to Christians. God will not blot an overcomer’s name out of the book of life. And, in many places in the Gospel accounts, Jesus warned his disciples and other followers that sin couldlead them into Hell.

In the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 5:28-30, Jesus told his disciples:

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committedadultery with her already in his heart.

29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck itout, and cast it from thee : for it isprofitable for thee that one of thy membersshould perish, and not that thy whole bodyshould be cast into hell.

30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off ,and cast it from thee : for it is profitable forthee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should becast into hell.

God takes sin very seriously. Jesu s is using a metaphor of cutting off ones hand or plucking out one’s eyeto show you that you need to get rid of things in your life that lead you to sin. Why? Because, you could

harden your heart through the deceitfulness of sin (see Hebrews chapter 3 and verse 13).

Going back to Deuteronomy 28, let’s look at what God says about rebellion, disobedience, and idolatry.

God, through Moses, told the children of Israel these words in Deuteronomy 28:14-15:

14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day,to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the L ORD thyGod, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command theethis day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

Because of its rebellion against God, promotion of evil, murder of babies, self-worship, pride, idolatry, witchcraft, and other sins, ancient Caananites in the land of Israel were judged. Because of similar sinsancient Rome was judged. And, for the past several decades, the United States has been following thetrend of willful sin and promotion of sin. And, according to the Bible, it shall also be destroyed as aconsequence of its many sins.

Figure 4 -- TV and video games are some of America's idols.

God has certain judgments, in Deuteronomy 28, which Hesaid would happen to those who rebel against Him.

Some of these curses are happening today. Deuteronomy 28:18 includes three curses:

1. Verse 18: “Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body…”2. Verse 18: “…and the fruit of thy land,…” 3. Verse 18: “…the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.”

1. “Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body…”

Is it possible that these curses are starting to happen to America? The first part, “Cursed shall be the fruitof thy body”, is God’s curse on childbirth. Why would God curse bearing children? In 1973, the SupremeCourt decided that children could be murdered if they were inconvenient to their parents. This practice ofkilling children and infants as sacrifices to Moloch was one reason God chose to judge the ancientIsraelites. God had commanded them not to do such an abomination (great sin).

Leviticus 18:21

21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fireto Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: Iam the L ORD .

But, they disobeyed God and murdered their children.

Jeremiah 32:35

35 And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valleyof the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters

to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commandedthem not, neither came it into my mind, that they should dothis abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

What happened to Judah for this sin?

Jeremiah 39:1-2

In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came

Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and theybesieged it.

And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of themonth, the city was broken up.

Skipping down to verses 8 and 9, we read:

8 And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, andbrake down the walls of Jerusalem.

9 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guardcarried away captive into Babylon theremnant of the people that remained in thecity, and those that fell away, that fell to him,

with the rest of the people that remained.

This calamity befell the children of Israel becausethey committed idolatry, rebelled against God, and murdered their children. Some may say that abortionis accep table because it is a woman’s right to choose. What does God say about “abortion”?

Exodus 20:13

13 Thou shalt not kill.

We are not to kill. Is it okay to kill an innocent person? If not, why is it okay to kill an innocent baby thatdidn’t even get to walk or say “mommy”? Look at the issue from God’s perspective (found in His Word)and you will see why God is angry with America.

What happened to ancient Israel when she served false gods such as Baal? What happened to ancientIsrael when she killed her children and gave them to Moloch?

Hosea 13:16

16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shallfall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with childshall be ripped up.

Certainly, this won’t happen to America, you may say. After all, she has sent out missionaries. She wasfounded on Christian principles. But, is America a Christian nation today? Is she obeying God? If not, what will happen to America will come as a result of her sin and rebellion against God. Sin and rebellionmust be judged.

Figure 6 -- Life starts at conception. Sadly, other infants getit taken from them before they can say "mommy".

2 Peter 2:9

9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve theunjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

2. And 3. “Cursed shall be… the fruit of thy land, the increase ofthy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. ”

God, through the prophet Amos, tells Israel that famine will come upon them for their rebellion.

Amos 4:6

And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want ofbread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the L ORD .

Their land was cursed so that theground would not produce much fruitor crops. This same even is happeningto America. Recently, the governor ofCalifornia, Gov. Jerry Brown, declareda drought emergency on January 17,2014 (Lloyd, Jonathan and PatrickHealy). He said that that snowpack inthe mountains is much smaller than itwas last year. The reservoirs andrivers, which supply nearly all thewa ter for California’s vast agriculturalfields, are at very low levels. Thedrought is not only limited toCalifornia but it also affects manyranchers in other states, including Texas. According to the Washington Post, ranchers in Texas aregetting hit hard by the drought. Paul Looney, a Texan rancher who serves as the vice president of theIndependent Cattlemen’s Association, told the Washington Post that, “We were hit across the board inTexas. Everyone had to reduce herd size, so that impacts the whole beef business, from the ranch to theplate. (Campbell, Elizabeth).”

The drought in California will alter food prices in many packaged meals in addition to produce. This willnot only affect meat prices in the supermarket, but will also affect packaged food, restaurant menus, canned food, etc. The loss of the herds will drive up the price of beef and other foods. This will hurt analready hurting economy.

In the United States, the number of people of working age has declined while food prices and livingexpenses are rising. In 2008, after the stock market crash, 61 percent of all working age Americans had a

job ( "Civilian Employment”) . By the end of 2013, only 58.6 percent of all working age Americans wereemployed ("Civilian Employment”) . When the effects of the drought hit the food supply for America,America will most likely see food prices rise. This will cause the Americans who live paycheck topaycheck to suffer more hardship.

Milt McGiffen, a field crop expert from theUniversity of California, told VOAnews.com that“The short -term impact [of the drought] is goingto be higher food prices. The longer-term impactis going to be you’re just not going to have asmuch production in the country” (Lee). Accordingto data obtained from the National ChickenCouncil ’s website, the average retail price of beefhas increased by over 71 percent from 2000 to2012 (“Wholesale and Retail”) . And, it is sure to

increase as herds decrease.

Bill Patzert, a climatologist of NASA’s JetPropulsion Laboratory, told VOAnews.com : “Here in California, we’re the breadbasket of the UnitedStates, but also we export tremendous volumes of fruits, vegetables and even cattle overseas. And sowhen these terrible droughts hit and production drops, this echoes around the globe ” (Lee). Patzert hadsaid that a drought has been in the western United States for over a decade (Lee).

What happens as a result of a drought? The drought is so serious that McGiffen said that if notechnological solution is found, people will die (Lee). The key elements to survival include, air, water, food, clothing, and shelter. Without these essentials, people cannot survive.

And, without God, you cannot survive the judgment of God. Please understand that I am not writing thisarticle with a judgmental spirit. Rather, I write because I want you to know that God is calling peopleeverywhere to repent before it is too late.

Acts 17:30-31

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth allmen every where to repent:

31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world inrighteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath givenassurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Make sure you are right with God. Repent from sin by choosing to turn away from it. Ask Jesus Christ tobe your Savior and Lord and make Him that. Trust in Jesus Christ’s blood to pay for your sins. Seek Godwith all your heart and God will be your shield and your refuge as the Psalms speak of. Just know that ifyou rebel against God, you are fighting against your Judge and He will not take your rebellion lightly.
