PUPPET WARS I: Jay Woelfel & Dave Parker

DARKNESS fills the screen. The sounds of digging and scraping rise from nowhere. Suddenly something breaks through sending out a blinding shard of light. Voices can be heard, GERMAN. Other shards of light break through our barrier of black, and form the title of our film:

PUPPET WARS: CURSE OF THE PUPPET MASTER

INT. EGYPTIAN TOMB - DAY

A group of NAZI AFRIKA KORPS SOLDIERS enter, through the hole they've just created, carrying shovels, torches, and guns. They are led by CURT, a young, handsome, and ambitious S.S. lieutenant. They travel down a narrow passageway, their torches occasionally lighting dusty cobwebs aflame. The air is still and dead.

ANGLE ON WALL

The torch light reveals HIEROGLYPHICS of death and resurrection.

RESUME GROUP

From behind Curt, PROFESSOR SHULTZ, nebbish, and weather beaten, stops Curt, and pulls him to the wall

SHULTZ(excited, scared)

You see, Lieutenant! These hieroglyphics prove Mesmer's theory about the statue.

Shultz looks around pensively. A slight stale breeze wafts his thinning hair.

SHULTZ (CONT'D)(frightened)

We have found the place of death. And hopefully rebirth.

Curt examines the drawing closely. It shows a JACKAL collecting the severed limbs and head of a dead man, putting them back together, and then leading the dead man to heaven.

CURTThis will help us save the Reich?

SHULTZYes, But if we fail...the result will be worse than any death imaginable.

Curt looks down into the darkness ahead, listening to the silence.

CURTYou are too superstitious. Nothing could be worse than the fall of the Reich.

Curt continues forward, going deeper into the tomb. The rest of the party follows after him, except for ONE MAN who brings up the rear of the group.

This dark imposing figure is GENERAL KRON. We see the glistening insignia of his rank and the slight scar under his left ear. His eyes are deeply set and dangerous. He is not a man to be messed with.

Kron looks at the paintings on the wall and slowly, thoughtfully, his thin lips curl slightly into a smile. Then, when he's good and ready, he continues deeper into the tomb. We follow behind him as he enters into the...

INT. BURIAL CHAMBER - DAY

The rest of the Nazis are already there in the deepest chamber of the tomb. Kron enters the room just as ERIK, one of the torch bearing soldiers asks.

ERIK(sarcastically)

Where's the mummy?

Kron answers his impertinent question. He speaks for the first time and everyone listens.

KRONBoy, this is not a tomb for the dead...

Kron grabs the torch from Erik's hand and thrusts it forward at the camera to reveal:

THE BURIAL CHAMBER

We see it clearly for the first time. It's round, with various treasures scattered about. On top of a large stone altar is the STATUE OF ANUBIS.

KRON(continued)

...this is the tomb of a god!

ANGLE ON ANUBIS STATUE

It rests on its haunches, like a dog, staring coldly at the unwelcome visitors. It is fashioned out of a black stone, gold leaf, and black lacquer. It is so smooth and black, it's like looking into an abyss. No dust falls onto it, even though it blankets everything else in the chamber.Kron, Curt, and Professor Shultz walk up to the statue, the NAZI SOLDIERS gather behind, shifting nervously.

Kron stares at the statue, face to face. Its emerald eyes almost seem alive. He looks down and notices a large jeweled eye hanging from its neck.

CU OF JEWEL

As Kron snatches it off of the statue.

Kron raises the jewel up to eye level, RACK FOCUS to reveal Shultz in bg looking as well. (This jewel will be known from this point on as THE EYE OF OSIRIS.)

CU EYE OF OSIRIS, spinning slowly while Kron holds it.

CURTGeneral, shall we proceed?

KRON(displeased)

You have forgotten my orders, Lieutenant?

Curt rushes to cover his hesitation. He wants to impress Kron above all things.

CURT(to the others)

Clean this place out nothing left.

Around Kron the soldiers begin to strip the chamber of its contents. Kron continues to stare at THE JEWEL spins and it hits torch light flashing brightly as we...

DISSOLVE

INT. BURIAL CHAMBER-LATER

We pull out from the FLAME OF A MATCH as Curt lights a hand- rolled smoke. He watches as...The last nail is being hammered into A CRATE that contains the statue. The rest of the chamber is now empty, cleaned out.

Close-by, Kron turns and watches as FOUR SOLDIERS lift the crate. It GROANS with the weight. The soldiers slowly walk out, Shultz follows closely behind them.

SHULTZ(leaving the chamber)

Be careful. You can destroy in seconds what has been waiting here for thousands of years.

As soon as the statue is past the doorway the torches slowly dim and then go out completely. Kron looks at the dim scene with cold eyes. He takes the jewel out of his pocket and looks at it again.

KRON(starring at jewel)

You were to be the jewel of my eye. But a stone in my heart, you became.

Curt walks up to Kron respectfully and quietly.

CURTA poem, General?

KRON(pauses before answering)

Something my mother used to say to me. I guess I was something of a disappointment to her.

Curt looks at Kron, who smiles viciously.

KRON (CONT'D)Let's move out, we're wasting time.

Kron laughs heartily, leaving Curt and the soldier Erik alone.

ERIKCurt, what was that about his mother? Is Kron going soft?

Curt is angered by Erik's question.

CURTI'm a lieutenant now and you should address me as such.

ERIKCurt we've know each other for...

CURTWe don't have time for this sentimental pap. Don't you know what happened to General Kron's mother?

ERIK(carefully)

Obviously not Lieutenant, or I wouldn't have asked.

CURTShe was executed as a enemy of the Reich. Kron turned her in himself. He is an example for us all.

Curt grabs a torch from the wall and puts it into Erik's hand.

CURT (CONT'D)You know what to do.

Curt leaves the soldier alone in the chamber to perform the final insult.

ANGLE ON WALL

As the Erik begins to BURN a swastika on the wall. Sparks and ash fall from the burning torch, as the black embered symbol begins to take shape. Erik swings his torch back to deal the last stroke when...

A HAND

...old, clawed, and powerful, grabs the soldier's wrist and breaks it with a loud SNAP!

CU ERIK

A look of terror in his eyes, death is breathing on him. The soldier screams as THE HAND grabs his face, its nails digging into his flesh.

ANGLE OF WALL

We see Erik in the fg getting dragged down out of frame, but we can still see his shadow, and that of THE MYSTERIOUS KILLER, as he tears off the soldier's head off.

BLOOD splatters the wall, strangely completing the swastika. The soldier's last SCREAM carries over as we....

DISSOLVE

EXT. SPEEDING TRAIN - DAY

The scream of a TRAIN WHISTLE. It's the TRANS EURO EXPRESS, blasting its way through the ragged Eastern European mountains at top speed, belching smoke and steam.

TOULON(voice over)

March the 2nd, 1945. My name is Andre Toulon. I am on board the Trans Euro Express en route to Switzerland. From there I intend to escape what can only be the end of this dreadful World War. I hope to settle in the United States, but if

I should not survive this diary will remain as a record of what I have seen and know....

INT. TRAIN HALLWAY - DAY

It's a narrow passageway with cabins to one side and windows on the other, shaking roughly as the train rockets along.

COMING UP THE HALLWAY

...is a group of Nazis. Shultz is pushing an aging man in a wheelchair.

This is DOCTOR MESMER a German Archeologist and master mind. General Kron is also part of the group following close behind.

A MAN CARRYING A SACK, who has his back to us, is walking towards the Nazi's. Mesmer's wheelchair and the thinness of the hallway make it impossible for him to pass. The Nazis and the man face off in the hallway.

KRON(pushes his way to the front to see)

Why have we stopped?

Mesmer pushes the sack out of his face. It has knocked off his glasses.

MESMER(to the man)

Step aside.

The man and his sack finally manage to get past them with much pushing and shoving. Kron is not willing to let it go at that. He grabs the man by the shoulder.

KRONNot so fast fool!

Kron turns the man around and we see that it is....

ANDRE TOULON

Toulon smiles serenely at the Kron.

TOULONExcuse me, I am nobodies' fool and certainly not another fools.

Kron's jaw locks in rage. Shultz and Mesmer watch in anticipation of an explosion.

KRON(barely controlled anger)

You old bastard! Give me your papers.

SHULTZ(interjects)

Don't you know who you're dealing with? General Kron has had people killed for less.

TOULONI'm sure he has.

Toulon keeps a slight smile on his face and politely hands over HIS PAPERS. Kron's whole expression changes as he sees the papers. He clicks his heels together and hands the papers back to Toulon.

KRONMy apologies, Colonel Kraus. This damn Swiss train ride has me on edge.

TOULONYes, only we Germans know how to run a railroad properly.

KRONCan I have someone help you with your...uh...bundle?

Kron points at the large sack Toulon is carrying.

TOULONThat won't be necessary. I'm just going to store it in the baggage car. Thank you though.

Toulon turns to go. Kron won't let Toulon leave that easily.

KRONMay I ask what's inside?

Toulon turns back around.

TOULONYou may ask....

He lets this hang for a moment, then flashes a friendly smile. He sets down the bag and reaches inside.

TOULON (CONT'D)Next you'll ask to see what's inside. So let me show you.

Toulon pulls BLADE out of the bag and hands him over to Kron. Kron, Shultz, and Mesmer look at it with puzzled expressions.

KRONA strange...toy.

TOULONFor strange times. Be careful!

Kron has cut one of his fingers on Blade's knives. Blood rises from the wound on his finger.

KRONDamnit. The thing's dangerous. What are you doing with it?

Toulon takes the puppet back.

TOULONWe confiscated them. When we find who's responsible we will deal with them quickly.

Toulon puts the puppet away and hefts the sack.

TOULON (CONT'D)

Now if you'll excuse me. I think we both have things to do.

KRON(salutes)

Yes, Colonel.

TOULON(returns the salute)

Perhaps we can share a drink later, General.

KRONMy mission here commands all of my attention. You understand.

TOULONCertainly. Goodbye then.

Toulon turns and continues on down the hall towards the baggage car. The three Nazi's watch.

MESMER(to Kron)

You out rank him, General. Why did you let him treat you that way?

KRONHe's an S.S. Colonel. I've heard of him. He's one of Himmler's relatives.

SHULTZ(derisively)

The God damn S.S! They were only supposed to be policeman! They think they can win the war by running concentration camps? They're nothing more than butchers and janitors.

Toulon has vanished around a corner. Kron turns to urge them to continue.

KRONWatch your tongue if you enjoy keeping it in your mouth. And

forget about the S.S. Shultz. I am going to win this war.

(pause)With both or your help--of course.

They exit.

WIPE TO

INT. BAGGAGE CAR - DAY

Toulon enters the large and dimly lit baggage car and closes the door behind him. He sets his bag on the ground and looks around to make sure that he is alone.

TOULONAll right my friends. We are alone.

ANGLE ON

The bag as TOULON'S PUPPETS push open the top and look around. (For the record at this point in time, they are BLADE, PINHEAD, JESTER, SIX SHOOTER, TUNNELER, and LEECH WOMAN)

Blade shows off the DROP OF KRON'S BLOOD on his knife to the other Puppets. Jester's head spins around to reveal his happy face. Six Shooter laughs.

TOULONYes Blade very clever. But never cut a Nazi unless you intend to kill him. We must hide ourselves. Do you understand?

THE PUPPETS nod in unison.

TOULON (CONT'D)(looking around the car)

You deserve something better than a sack. There must be something we can use....

Toulon and the puppets wander towards the back of the car. It is filled with boxes, crates and suitcases. Toulon checks several, but they are full.

LEECH WOMAN pulls at Toulon's pant-leg. He sees that she is pointing to a half open trunk off to one side. It is the PUPPET MASTER TRUNK that we have come to recognize from the other Puppet Master films.

Toulon goes to it and pulls it open. It's empty.

TOULON (CONT'D)It's perfect. Now all of you inside.

But when he turns to motion them in, he finds that all of the Puppets except Leech Woman are nowhere to be seen.

TOULON (CONT'D)(calling to the puppets)

Where are you? Come back here...what did I just say about hiding?

Toulon picks up Leech Woman and together they move even deeper into the car until he sees....

THE PUPPETS TOGETHER

...in front of a HUGE CRATE. They stand there frozen, looking up at it. It has German Military labels on it that say: PROJECT NIGHT EAGLE.

The Puppets aren't responding to Toulon's voice.

TOULONWhat's got into all of you?

There is an UNLOCKED PADLOCK dangling from the door. Toulon removes it and then pulls open the hinged door to the huge crate. There is something large inside. As Toulon opens the crate light slowly spills in to reveal....

ANUBISES' GLEAMING WHITE EYES

The gloss black jackal god's head looks out of him. A cold wave of fear rushes through Andre Toulon. Then...

A VOICE

...comes from behind him.

AHMAD BEY(off screen)

Anubis, god of sepulchral chamber: ruler of the "funeral mountain..."

Toulon turns and sees AHMAD BEY as he walks into the light. His skin is tight, old...like the skin of a snake. He is Egyptian and wears a gallabea the clothing of his country. There is a uniformed S.S. Officer with Bey. This is CURT. His gun is drawn and aimed at Toulon's head.

AHMAD BEY (CONT'D)(continues)

He is the "Opener of the Ways" that the dead follow to rebirth.

(stops walking not far from Toulon)

He is not for you to disturb.

Toulon quickly hides Leech Woman behind his back. His other puppets have hidden behind boxes nearby.

TOULONI'm sorry. I didn't mean any harm.

Bey says no more. Curt steps forward and presses his pistol into Toulon's stomach.

CURTI doubt that, old man. Where are your papers?

Toulon gives his papers to Curt. Curt is in the S.S. will he recognize Toulon's S.S. papers as bogus? Will he know that Toulon is posing as Kraus, who is in reality, a dead man?

CURT (CONT'D)So you are the famous Colonel Kraus, eh?

(heavy pause)I've always wanted to meet you, but you are older than I expected.

Toulon snatches the papers back.

TOULONIs the S.S. so desperate now that we recruit from high schools?

Curt holsters his gun.

CURTI am ready and willing to give my life for the Reich.

TOULONI'm sure you believe that, but it's no substitute for duty. I walked in here completely unhindered. Who is in charge of guarding this crate?

Toulon has Curt nailed. He looks immediately guilty. He stammers without an answer. Toulon paces around him and, unseen, sets Leech Woman down on a box.

TOULON (CONT'D)I can't hear you son.

Curt is taken off the spot as a final character enters the scene. This is CLAIRE, a beautiful, intelligent, and cruel scientist for the Reich.

CLAIREHe was with me. He is part of our top secret project for the Fuhrer himself.

TOULON(carefully)

I am S.S. Colonel Kraus.(extends his hand)

Who might you be?

CLAIRE(shakes his hand)

Dr. Hanna Claire. I am chief scientist for Project Night Eagle and second in command to General Kron.

TOULONYes, General Kron and I met earlier.

(apologetic)Look I must apologize for stepping into where I clearly don't belong.

CLAIREApology accepted, Colonel. You couldn't have known what we were doing.

TOULONAnd now I know more than I want to. I am only a passenger on this train and, as such, I will stay out of your way from now on.

CLAIRE(nods, thinking)

It's rare to find someone who understands the need for secrets in these troubled days.

TOULONOh, believe me I do. Secrets are what made the Reich great.

Claire looks to Curt.

CLAIREWe are late for dinner, Lieutenant.

She offers him her arm. He takes it and they leave Bey and Toulon in the car alone. There is an uneasy silence.

TOULON(smiles)

So, you see we are on the same side after all.

Toulon moves to reseal the open crate. Bey stops him.

AHMAD BEYLeave that.

TOULONBut the lock isn't...

AHMAD BEYAny damage has already been done. Come along, It will take care of itself.

Curt follows Bey out. Only the Puppets are left in the car. They start to move back to their new trunk, when Jester sees something. His head spins around into a frown as he points. The other puppets look and see...

SMALL CROOKED HANDS

...emerge from inside of Anubis's crate. They are from the THREE HUMONCULI that guard the statue. Their frightening reptilian green faces are seen briefly as they pull the crate closed with a BANG. On the sound we...

CUT TO:

INT. CLAIRE'S COMPARTMENT - NIGHT

The buttons on Curt's jacket are being opened. WE PULL BACK to see Claire and Curt in her compartment. Claire kisses Curt on the mouth and tugs at his jacket. Curt is resisting.

CURTDoctor, we are expected for dinner.

CLAIREI'm not hungry for food.

She begins to pull off her shirt. Curt grabs her hands and holds them to her side. She smiles at his tight grip.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)Now that's more like it.

Curt pushes her back into the Compartment's seat.

CURTThe war is nearly lost, how can you think about sex?

CLAIRE

I don't know about you Curt, but my brain and my body can both function at the same time.

She tucks in her shirt and moves to look at herself in the mirror on the back of the compartment door.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)(continues)

If yours can't then that's your loss.

Curt pushes past her and grabs the doorknob to leave the compartment.

CURTThe Reich needs me first.

CLAIRE(grabs his hand and keeps him in the room)

Is that really it, lieutenant? Or do you need another promotion more than you need to be a man?

He moves to slap her. Claire grabs his hand and stops it in mid air. She holds it there.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)Don't ever start something you can't finish, Lieutenant.

She smiles and lets go of his hand.

INT. HALLWAY - NIGHT

Curt stomps out into the hall. There are TWO GUARDS right near Claire's door. They try to pretend they didn't hear any of Curt and Claire's argument.

CURTMy duty comes first, Doctor. I can control myself.

Curt stomps away from her room. She leans out into the hall and looks at the younger and better looking of the two guards by her door.

CLAIREI can control myself too. As a matter of fact, I'm doing it right now.

The young soldier's face flushes at her attention and he turns away. Claire confidently smiles widely to herself.

CUT TO:

INT. DINING CAR - NIGHT

A CORK POPS out of a bottle of Champagne. Toulon sits amid the Nazi's in a plush lounge/dining car of the train. An ELECTRIC CARVING KNIFE slices off juicy slabs of beef. The entire group is there plus TWO GERMAN GUARDS who keep any unwanted additional people from joining them.

DR. Mesmer is pouring Champagne for all those who will take it. Curt waves him off.

CURT(vague disgust)

Is there some occasion we are celebrating?

MESMERAt my age I need a reason not to drink.

He offers the Champagne to Kron. He readily accepts the offered drink. Mesmer fills his glass.

KRONI'd say we have just cause to celebrate. In fact in the future the world may celebrate this night as the highest of holy days.

Kron takes a big drink. Shultz sits next to him, accepts a glass of Champagne, but frowns.

SHULTZ

We are not guaranteed success.

CLAIREProfessor Shultz is right. This isn't an exact science, or science at all for that matter.

KRONThat's right Doctor. It's a matter of faith not science. Something you could show a little more of.

CLAIREMy faith is in science and the Reich. Everything else is open to doubt.

KRONTouche' Dr. Claire. But it isn't science that will save Germany...

DR. Mesmer interrupts them by offering them more champagne.

MESMERNot this debate again, please. We will all have proof soon enough, so drink!

KRON(takes another drink)

Right you are DR. Mesmer.(turns to Bey)

What about you Bey? It's your countries' beliefs we're talking about. What will happen?

Bey sits at a separate table from the rest. He looks up from one of MESMER'S BOOKS on Egypt. He focuses on all of them with a detached, almost ancient stare.

AHMAD BEYMy country and its beliefs are beyond knowing. The religion, you are dealing with was first written down five thousand years ago. But

even then it was only partly understood.

The LIGHTS FLICKER as the train passes through a tunnel The car rocks violently from side to side for a moment, before resuming its regular rhythmic vibrations. Everyone in the car grows quiet as Bey speaks in dark reverence.

AHMAD BEY (CONT'D)(continues)

You see it is absolutely impossible to fix a date as the start of the religion and civilization of my people. It can only be said, rather undramatically, that it is the world's oldest. These gods you seek to control were the first ones on this planet. Born on a day infinitely long ago when primeval helpless humanity cowered in darkened caves without the use of fire or language and came to believe in forces beyond this cruel world. The supernatural powers that would later be gropingly given the ridiculously insufficient name of "neter" - GOD.

The eerie silence of the room is broken by the sound of one set of HANDS CLAPPING. It is Kron.

KRON(with a big smile)

Bravo. Bravo. But what will happen? Will we succeed?

AHMAD BEYWhat will happen?

(shrugs his shoulders)

Knowledge like that is beyond the powers of mankind. It is that way for a reason. Because what waits in the future is predestined and terrible beyond knowing. It waits there...for us all....

There is almost complete silence in the train car when.

WITH A BANG

...The door into the car slams open. Wind and the rush of the train's engine flood into the room. Everyone jumps. The guards by the door ready their weapons, as...

TOULON

...stands there in the opening. Everyone is watching him.

TOULONI don't know who you were expecting, but you all look disappointed.

SHULTZ(on edge)

Relieved is more like it.

TOULONI came for dinner, this is the only dining car on this train.

KRONThat is so, Colonel. Come in and close the door.

Toulon walks to a nearby table at the far end of the car from the Nazis and sits down.

AS THE GUARDS CLOSE THE DOOR...

We see Blade slipping into the dining car between the guard's legs. Blade quickly hides under a table. Nobody, not even Toulon, knows he's there.

KRON (CONT'D)(to Curt)

Take Colonel Kraus the meat, Lieutenant.

Curt is not happy, but very obedient. He picks up the roast and walks it clear down to Toulon's table.

MESMER

Those are some sobering thoughts Bey.

He pours himself more champagne. Near him Shultz is badly shaken.

SHULTZI think we should stop right now. I mean what are we doing? We've been praying to it...have we all gone insane?

CURT(returns to their table)

We should keep such discussions amongst ourselves.

He indicates Toulon at the far end of the car.

KRONI didn't know you were the ranking officer here?

CURTNo General. My apologies.

Curt sits down and shuts up. Kron looks down at Toulon. Hidden from view on the floor, Blade is making his way towards Toulon.

KRONYou see Colonel Kraus isn't interested in what we're doing. He has his own strange business with those...toys.

(raises his voice so Toulon will hear him)

Isn't that right Colonel Kraus?

Blade is now under the table and tugging on Toulon's leg. Toulon shakes him off with his leg.

TOULONI can't agree with something I didn't hear? What is your question?

CURT(under his breath)

The deaf old fool.

AHMAD BEYWhy you've got one with you right now.

Toulon is surprised that Bey had seen Blade. Toulon picks up Blade, who immediately plays dead, and shows him to everyone in the compartment.

CLAIREWhere did that come from?

CURTObviously he's had it with him the whole time Doctor. It didn't walk in here by itself.

Kron and Mesmer think this is very funny. They are both a little drunk. Toulon is more interested in Bey's reaction. Bey stands up and walks over to Toulon.

AHMAD BEYMay I see it?

Toulon puts Blade into Bey's hand.

AHMAD BEY (CONT'D)It seems almost alive.

TOULON(smiles)

It is just your imagination.

Curt looks at Blade from his seat.

CURT(to Toulon)

What are you doing playing with dolls Colonel?

TOULONI respectfully tell you it is none of your business Lieutenant.

Bey is moving Blade's sharp hook around with his finger.

KRON(to Bey)

Be careful, I got a nasty cut...

His warning comes too late. Bey pulls his punctured finger away in pain.

AHMAD BEYThis is certainly no ordinary toy, Colonel Kraus.

He hands Blade back to Toulon. Toulon sees that there doesn't seem to be any blood coming from Bey's freshly cut finger. There is a hole but no blood.

TOULON(standing to leave)

I assure you my work is nowhere near as interesting as your own.

CURTNo, please tell us.

Curt plainly doesn't like Toulon. Toulon knows it.

KRONPerhaps the Colonel would enjoy talking his food to his cabin so we won't interrupt his meal.

Toulon takes the hint.

TOULONI was thinking the same thing General. If you'll all excuse me.

Toulon takes his food and Blade in hand and leaves. Curt watches him the whole time. Once he's gone Curt turns to Kron.

CURTWith your permission General I'd like to check into Kraus.

CLAIREYou've taken a sudden interest in dolls Lieutenant, why is that?

Kron slams his hand down on the table, the glasses jump and nearly fall over.

KRONI will have no squabbling among those under my command. Is that understood?

Curt and Claire nod silently.

KRON (CONT'D)Curt, do what you want in your spare time.

(looks at his watch)As long as it doesn't interfere with our "moment of truth" at midnight.

Shultz grabs Kron's arm. He looks panicked.

SHULTZI'm serious Kron! We shouldn't go through with it.

KRON(shakes Shultz arm away)

What did I just say. There is no time for arguments! Only time for action.

Kron gets up from the table and paces the room in a controlled rage.

KRON (CONT'D)Petty bickerings. We stand here at the graveside of our Thousand year Reich and there is still time for dissension? The individual is nothing. All my life I've watched people devote time to love and ambition. They have turned this world into a steaming pile of waste

ripe for religious and racial gypsies to steal for themselves.

Kron pulls his gun and stops pacing.

KRON (CONT'D)I will kill each and everyone of you where you sit before I let us fail tonight.

Only Claire has the courage to speak.

CLAIREYou've made you point, sir. We all stand ready to die before we see the Reich fall.

Kron puts his gun away. He remains standing. Curt sees an opportunity to get back into Kron's good graces.

CURTGet a hold of yourself Shultz! DR. Mesmer and you lead us to the tomb in the first place and now you panic?

MESMERYes Shultz really. What we are doing is completely controllable.

Shultz turns to Claire for support.

CLAIREDon't look at me. Our friend Bey here disapproves of what we're doing with his artifacts so he told us a ghost story and you got scared. Isn't that so Bey?

Bey smiles coldly at her.

AHMAD BEYYou will do what you want. If the world can't stop you from trying to destroy it, then how can I do anything about tonight.

KRONWell said Bey. Only one man in this room has the power to control what happens tonight.

He looks over at Mesmer as the crippled old archaeologist reaches inside his coat pocket.

MESMERThat's right and I've got it right here.

He pulls out the jeweled eye that the Nazis stole from the tomb at the beginning of the film.

It sparkles as we see it in CLOSE UP and...

DISSOLVE

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

The express hurtles forward under the starlit sky towards its mysterious midnight rendezvous.

DISSOLVE

INT. BAGGAGE CAR - NIGHT

The closed Crate with Anubis inside sits ominously alone in the corner.

WE PULL BACK TO REVEAL

Toulon and Blade standing in front of it.

TOULONYou risked exposing all of us, so this had better be important.

Blade points at the crate.

TOULON (CONT'D)Yes, I see it and I know what's inside...

Blade shakes his head and points again.

Toulon under Blade's insistence walks up and tries to open the crate. The padlock is not locked, but the door resists. It won't open.

TOULON (CONT'D)(puzzled)

Strange. What is it you wanted me to see?

Blade can only keep gesturing.

TOULON (CONT'D)It's my fault I suppose for not being able to make you talk.

(he picks Blade up)I shall have to work on that. Perhaps when we get to America....

Toulon carries Blade to the PUPPET TRUNK. The trunk is open and several OTHER PUPPETS look up at him.

TOULON (CONT'D)Sorry, my friends, but I must lock you up for now. You'll be safe here.

Toulon puts Blade inside and closes the trunk. He snaps the TWO LATCHES shut.

INT. PUPPET TRUNK - NIGHT

A shaft of light comes in through the crack in the lid. Blade still tries to get out. He can't. Leech Woman looks on. Worried....

BACK TO SCENE

Toulon stands up and prepares to leave the baggage car when...

SUDDENLY

...the door to the baggage car opens.

TOULON HIDES AS....

Shultz comes into the car. He's carrying a DOUBLE BLADED FIRE AX. He advances on the crate brandishing it.

SHULTZI helped them find you...

He swings the ax. It digs into the crates door with a cracking of wood.

SHULTZ (CONT'D)...and I can stop you before it's too late!

He pries the ax free and slams it repeatedly into the crates door. The wood splinters and falls apart.

TOULON WATCHES AS

Shultz tears the door from the crate. He stops to catch his breath. SOMETHING scurries out of the crate.

Shultz tries to see what it is, but it has already disappeared amid the bags and boxes of the car.

SHULTZGod damn rats.

ANOTHER ONE...definitely too big for a rat, runs from the crate and hides somewhere close by.

SHULTZ'S SWEATING FACE SHOWS FEAR.

He turns back to the gleaming jackal head that watches him from the darkness of the crate.

SHULTZ(to the statue)

You hound of hell! Your powers are still weak, and no match for the taste of my steel!

He smiles and starts to raise the ax, but there is something clinging onto the ax blade. He sees it just as he's raised the ax to strike, when...at that moment.

THE GHASTLY GRIN OF A HUMONCULUS COMES FROM INSIDE.

It hisses at him and leaps onto his face. The ax falls to the floor. Shultz screams as the humonculus gouges out one of his eyes.

Shultz throws the creature across the car. Blood runs from his eye as he grabs up the ax and charges the statue, screaming in rage....but he doesn't make it.

THE OTHER TWO HUMONCULI...

Pounce on him. One leaps onto his leg and tears into his leg with its claws. The other one, jumps onto his arm and quickly draws blood.

Shultz swings the ax at the monster on his leg. It jumps away and the ax instead digs into Shultz's leg.

BLOOD SPRAYS.

SHULTZ GOES DOWN SCREAMING.

The gleaming eyes of Anubis watch. The statue seems to be smiling in satisfaction, as Shultz writhes on the ground. The third humonculus rejoins the attack to finish him off. The blood and screams are terrible.

NOT FAR AWAY

Toulon watches in horror, and starts to sneak out of the baggage car. He's perfectly quiet, but still...somehow...

A HUMONCULUS turns and sees Toulon. The other two also look up from their bloody slaughter.

Toulon freezes. He looks over at the PUPPET TRUNK. Can he make it there and free the puppets before the humonculi reach him?

He looks back to see that the humonculi are already advancing. They stalk forward like cats about to pounce.

Toulon goes for it!

In a few quick steps he gets to the trunk and pops one of the latches which keep it locked shut.

INSIDE THE TRUNK

The puppets sense that their master is in danger. They crowd around the opening waiting to be freed.

BACK TO SCENE

Toulon reaches for the second latch. A Humonculus tears at his hand. Toulon is forced to save himself and abandons his efforts to free the puppets.

The humonculus is still attached to his hand. Toulon slams his hand against the side of the train car and the creature drops away.

The other two humonculi are approaching fast!

Thinking fast, Toulon tips over some piled up suitcases. They fall onto the Humonculi which gives Toulon enough time to escape from the baggage car.

INT. TRAIN HALLWAY - NIGHT

Toulon, holding his bleeding hand, rushes down the hall towards the dining car.

He'll have to settle for Nazi firepower to save him.

He opens the door marked DINING CAR and slams it shut behind him. He doesn't have much of a lead. The killer creatures follow close behind.


The lights are out in the car.

TOULONHelp...anybody!

Toulon finds the switch and flips it on. THE CAR LIGHTS UP. There are some uncleared plates from dinner still on the large table, but he's alone.

Toulon heads for the door at the opposite end of the car. He reaches it, but it's locked from the other side.

BEHIND HIM

...in the car with him, a GREEN HUMONCULUS HAND switches out the lights.

Toulon turns and looks over the darkened room. He knows the creatures are there in the shadows of the car. He can hear their scurrying about.

AHMAD BEY(voice only)

There is no escape.


Inside their trunk, the puppets try valiantly to get out and help their master. Blade sticks his knife through the crack and picks at the latch. His blade SNAPS OFF.

He looks at "his stump" perplexed. Pinhead shakes his tiny head in dismay. They are still trapped in the trunk.

MEANWHILE BACK IN THE....


Ahmad Bey steps from the shadows at the far end of the car. Toulon is relieved to finally find someone.

TOULONThank god. You've got to help me...

AHMAD BEY(remaining in place)

Do not thank god. We have come to kill you.

Bey's aged skin looks especially unsettling in the half light.

TOULONWhy?

AHMAD BEYYou are a Nazi, which is reason enough, but you also have some quality, a power to give life to inanimate objects. Kron would kill to have that knowledge.

Toulon sees a Humonculus, close by, baring its teeth at him.

TOULONI don't know what you're talking about.

AHMAD BEYI held one of your creations in my hand. I felt it breathe.

TOULONThey are just wooden puppets. They don't even have strings.

AHMAD BEYThat's because they don't need strings for you to control them. Your lies aren't worth the dirt that will fill your grave!

CUT TO:


WE PUSH IN on the puppet's trunk. It starts to shake and we see TUNNELER'S HEAD break out and spin its way through the remaining latch.

The trunk opens. The puppets are free!

CUT TO:

INT. DINING ROOM - NIGHT

Toulon is trapped. The Humonculi surround him on all sides. Toulon is begging for his life.

TOULONThe Nazi's killed my wife! I had to leave my assistant and everything I knew behind to try to escape. I'm through with the war. All I want to do is leave Europe forever.

AHMAD BEY(thinks this over)

You are a more convincing liar than most, Kraus. I'll give you that.

Bey turns to leave. The Humonculi take it as an order to attack. They close in on Toulon.

Bey opens the door to leave, allowing THE PUPPETS to rush in to save Toulon. Bey turns to watch as...

Pinhead grabs two of the Humonculi and slams their heads together.

Tunneler keeps the other one at bay.

Blade, who is bladeless, sees the ELECTRIC CARVING KNIFE on the dinner table with detachable blades. He hops up on the table and looks at a particularly large sharp one.

Pinhead has been overcome by the two Humonculi. One holds him down while the other pulls his head off. Green liquid spurts from his stump and he dies.

Then the same two Humonculi turn to attack Toulon, when...

BLADE jumps between them, sporting one of the carving knives as his new weapon. It's as long as he is tall. He swings it at the Humonculi and drives them back.

A STAND OFF.

TOULONIt seems we are equally matched.

AHMAD BEY(slowly)

For the moment.

SOMEONE KNOCKS...

On the door behind Toulon. Voices come from the other side.

KRON(voice only)

Who locked this door?

CLAIRE(voice only)

Curt has the key....

KRON(voice only)

Don't just stand there, go and get him!

Toulon walks away from the locked door and towards Bey.

TOULONThey'll be in here soon. Believe me or not, my secrets are my own. All I want to do is leave this train alive with my puppets. Now you can believe what I say, or, I can tell them that you control the creatures that killed Shultz and Kron and the Nazis will kill you for a traitor. I will then still escape. It's your decision...

THE DOOR into the dining car is already being unlocked.

TOULON (CONT'D)It's time you made up your mind.

A tense moment passes.

AHMAD BEYI believe you.

Bey and his creatures hide in the shadows. Toulon's puppets do likewise. Leech Woman and Jester pull Pinhead's remains under a table.

NAZIS BURST INTO THE DINING CAR.

Kron is in the lead, Curt and Claire are right behind him.

KRONWhat are you doing standing here in the dark?

TOULONI'm afraid something terrible has happened.

SMASH CU


Shultz's ravaged corpse in BIG CLOSE UP. Toulon, Bey, and the Nazis surround it. Curt kneels and examines the wounds.

CURTNothing human did this.

Curt stands up. Claire looks sickened.

CURT (CONT'D)(to Toulon)

You said there were twelve of them?

TOULON(playing it up)

Oh, I don't know, at least that many, maybe more. You see it was dark...

CLAIREIt's terrible.

MESMERIt's wonderful.

Everyone looks at the wheelchair bound archaeologist in surprise.

MESMER (CONT'D)I mean what happened to Shultz is a hideosity, of course. He was always a snappy dresser and a better than fair archaeologist, but he panicked.

Mesmer points to the ax and the damaged crate.

MESMER (CONT'D)He showed fear. The imbecile tried to destroy the statue. You see he knew that the statue is a vessel that can hold Anubis's spirit. If he had destroyed it we couldn't have used it to bring Anubis to life.

CURTSo what's so wonderful?

Mesmer wants to answer, but Kron beats him to it.

KRON(excited at the possibilities)

Anubis stopped him! His powers are already strong enough to kill. Imagine what they'll be after the final ceremony.

(to Curt)Have the final orders come through?

Curt nods and pulls THE ORDERS from his pocket. Kron takes them, but barely glances at them before handing them over to Claire.

KRON (CONT'D)Then we have work to do. Curt, deal with this mess.

Kron turns and leaves. Everyone, except Curt and TWO GERMAN ARMY REGULARS, go with him.

CURTWhat are you waiting for? Get some buckets and mops.


Mesmer wheels along in the lead of the single column line as they squeeze down the hallway heading away from the baggage car.

MESMERI knew it would work. I never had a doubt.

KRONDR. Claire was our doubting Thomas.

CLAIREI no longer doubt the power of what you have here. But can we control it?

KRON(laughs)

Have a little faith. DR. Mesmer has gotten us this far.

MESMERDon't worry, Doctor. Everything is under control.

Toulon, near the end of the line, stops near his compartment door.

TOULONIf you'll excuse me, this is my room.

Kron stops and turns to him.

KRONYes, please...be my guest at midnight. I guarantee that it will be glorious.

TOULONI wouldn't want to miss it.

AHMAD BEY(to Kron)

I will leave you as well. You no longer need my assistance.

Mesmer speaks up from the front of the line.

MESMERWe never did.

Bey merely bows.

AHMAD BEYWhatever you say....

Mesmer snorts indignantly and wheels on down the hall. Kron and Claire follow.

ANGLE ON

TOULON AND BEY...ALONE IN THE HALL.

AHMAD BEY(whispers)

We have much to talk about.

Toulon opens his compartment door and they go in. As they disappear inside we see...

CURT

...watching from the end of the hall. He walks up to the closed door and tries to listen, but the train is too noisy, all he can hear is the clickity clack of the tracks speeding underneath.

Frustrated, he continues on down the hall. From above, in the ceiling luggage rack we see Jester and a Humonculus watching him go.

INT. TOULON'S COMPARTMENT - NIGHT

Toulon and Bey are in a heated discussion.

AHMAD BEYBut together we can stop the Nazis!

TOULONGermany will surely loose the war anyway. It's only a matter of time. The Russians will be in Berlin within a month.

AHMAD BEYIf Kron succeeds tonight that will all change. We are the only ones who stand between the Nazis and victory.

TOULONI'm just an old man. Beaten and tired....

AHMAD BEYYou are more than that. You with your puppets and me with the humonculi. We both have been given

the knowledge and powers few people even dream of. Is it an accident or are we meant for some greater purpose than revenge and self preservation?

A humonculus and several puppets are there in the cabin with them. They watch Toulon. He stops in place. What Bey says hits deeply. Hits home.

TOULONYou are right, my friend. If I can help I will, no matter what the cost. Now tell me what the Nazis are up to?

CUT TO:

INT. TRAIN RADIO ROOM - NIGHT

CLOSE-UP ON A MAP TABLE covered with battle plans.

PULL BACK TO REVEAL...

The car which is the planning center for the military train. We also see a large WIRELESS RADIO SET which is its primary feature. A RADIO MAN and a GUARD are the only ones in it at the moment, until...

...Curt comes in. The guard salutes, but Curt has his mind on something more important.

CURT(to the radio man)

Has Berlin answered my last call?

RADIO MANNo Sir. Communications with Berlin are very bad, what with the Russians closing in...

CURTI don't want excuses. Get S.S. Headquarters on the line now.

The Radio Man starts to work the controls. Curt takes the headset from the man and sits down to do it himself.

CURT (CONT'D)Get out of here!

(to himself)I'll get my own answers about Colonel Kraus.

CUT TO:


CLOSE UP ON Toulon who's pacing around the small cabin, talking to Bey who is seated. Several Puppets and one Humonculus watch as well.

TOULONSo tonight the Nazi's finish a series of ceremonies to bring the spirit of Anubis into the statue. This will bring it to life, and then what?

AHMAD BEYAnubis is a god of mummification. They assume he will be able to bring back their own fallen soldiers to help Germany win the war. He also has other supernatural powers that they hope to harness.

TOULONBut that's insane!

AHMAD BEYInsanity is how this war started and that's how it will end.

TOULON(nods his head)

Can they do it?

AHMAD BEYYes they can bring the statue to life. But Anubis is not an evil god by nature. They can only force him to do their bidding through the jewel called The Eye of Osiris.

TOULONWe have to get it.

AHMAD BEYMesmer keeps it hidden somewhere. I've been traveling with the Nazis for a month and I still don't know where.

TOULON(gestures to his puppets)

My puppets can help us there. What do you know about this midnight meeting and the sealed orders that DR. Claire has?

AHMAD BEY(shakes his head)

We have to get the orders from her.

He looks to one of his Humonculi that's in the compartment with them. It smiles in wicked Glee. Drool runs from the corners of its mouth.

TOULON(looks at the Humonculus)

How do they fit into all of this?

AHMAD BEYAs Anubis has gained power, so have the humonculi. They can be useful to us now. I can see what they see.

CUT TO:


A HUMONCULI'S EYES watch and blink. WE PULL BACK from it to see it hidden high in the corner of Claire's compartment. It stays there. Watching....

Her compartment is exactly like Toulon's except that she has her seats opened up to be a bed, and for good reason.

She enters into the compartment with a YOUNG GERMAN SOLDIER at her side. It is the same guard she was eyeing earlier.

YOUNG SOLDIERI really should remain at my post.

CLAIREI am your senior officer. You should consider being here a privilege...and an order.

She drops her coat to the floor. The ORDERS are visible, sticking out of the pocket.

ABOVE THEM

...in the corner the Humonculus sees the orders.

DISSOLVE


At that very instant, Bey sits in a trance. He's alone in Toulon's room. He sees what the Humonculus sees.

HIS LIPS move in a silent command to the Humonculus.

DISSOLVE


THE HUMONCULUS hears Bey's silent command. It drops to the floor.

Claire and the Young Soldier don't hear the sound, because they are making too much noise of their own. Their lovemaking is well under way.

ON THE FLOOR

...The Humonculus moves towards the object of his mission -- THE ORDERS-- which are still in the pocket of the discarded coat laying right next to the bed.

TUNNELER joins the Humonculus and they sneak forward.

In the bed, the Young Soldier has one final pang of guilt.

YOUNG SOLDIERI really should be at my post, I'll be missed.

Claire flips the soldier under her so she can be on top.

CLAIREYou'd be missed here even more.

CUT TO:


CURT comes bursting through the door down the hall outside of Claire's compartment. The look in his eyes is intense.

A PRIVATE sees him coming.

PRIVATESchiest.

Curt is already on him.

CURTWhere's the other man who was on guard in this car?

PRIVATE(stammers)

Well Sir, he's a...on duty with DR. Claire.

CURTThat Whore!

Curt pulls his gun and grabs the handle to enter the cabin. Then he gets control of himself.

CURT (CONT'D)(smiles sarcastically)

No. Let's not disturb them.

He holsters his gun and straightens his uniform.

CURT (CONT'D)

She'll see who's right this time. I'm on my feet while she's on her back. Come with me if you want to be a hero!

Curt pulls his side arm and starts down the hallway. The Private follows quickly behind.

PRIVATEA hero sir?

CURTYes, we've got an impostor in our midst.


SMALL GREEN HANDS carefully remove the ORDERS from the jacket pocket. In the bed above, neither Claire or the Soldier notice. They are completely naked and still very busy.

STILL ON TOP, Claire opens her eyes to watch them making love in the mirror on the back of the door. She sees them, but she also sees...

THE HUMONCULUS WITH THE PLANS HEADING FOR THE DOOR.

CLAIRE(yells)

Get your gun!

The soldier beneath her is confused.

YOUNG SOLDIERWhy? What can we do with it.

CLAIRE(pulls herself away from him)

Stupid Swine.

HIS GUN is hanging from a COAT HOOK near the bed. Claire reaches for it. She screams and pulls back her bloody hand.

BLADE is there by the gun, her blood dripping from his new knife.

The soldier goes for the gun himself.

Blade impales the man's hand. The knife goes in one side and out the other. The soldier screams like a woman and tumbles out of bed right on top of...

TUNNELER whose drill is already spinning as the Soldier falls onto it. His body convulses.

Claire watches in horror as Tunneler's head burrows its way up and out of the soldier's body. Across the room comes a familiar laugh...

SIX SHOOTER IS THERE ALREADY AIMING HIS GUNS AT HER.

Claire is bloodied and frightened, but keeps her head. She ducks as Six shooter's bullets rip into the wall behind her.

She falls to the floor of the compartment. Six Shooter prepares to fire again. Claire uses the dead soldier's body as a shield from this second volley of fire.

Blade slashes at her from the bed. He rips open her shoulder, but she ducks away only to find Tunneler coming at her on the floor.

She grabs the puppet around the waist and actually uses his spinning head to fight off Blade. Tunneler's head sparks as Blade slashes at it. They parry.

Finally Claire knocks Blade backwards with Tunneler and then hurls Tunneler viciously into the corner. His head sticks in the wall. He's stuck there in mid air. His body twirls around wildly as his head continues to spin.

Claire has a chance to escape. She reaches for the door.

THE HUMONCULUS is there to stop her. It bites at her hand. She yells in pain and draws back.

From behind her Blade is back on his feet and coming for her. It looks like she's had it when...

THE HUMONCULUS suddenly freezes in mid-step. It is literally stopped in place with one foot in the air.

Claire sees her chance and escapes from the room.

ANGLE ON BLADE

...as he pokes at the frozen Humonculi, which still stays there.

CLOSE UP OF

....its eyes. They are glazed over. For the reason for this turn of events we...

CUT TO:


Bey's eyes in CLOSE UP as he is distracted and brought out of his trance. There is someone POUNDING on the door. No longer in his trance he is disconnected from the Humonculus which is why it was left in mid-step.

Bey quickly gets up to go to the door, but he doesn't get there before...

THE DOOR IS SMASHED OPEN.

Curt and the Private enter the compartment with GUNS drawn.

CURTWhere is Toulon?

AHMAD BEYToulon? Who is that? I don't know...

His attempt at a lie is cut short by the pistol that whips across his face. He falls back into the seat. Curt aims his LUGER and fires. The shot blows a hole in the wall right next to Bey's head. Curt immediately re-aims his gun, this time directly between Bey's eyes.

CURT(to the Private next to him)

Private! Have you ever known me to ask a question twice?

PRIVATE(surprised to be asked)

Uh, no Sir.

AHMAD BEYToulon's working in the baggage car.

CUT TO:


Toulon is putting the decapitated Pinhead back together again. Jester and Leech woman act as nurses for the "operation." The head is back on but the puppet remains lifeless.

TOULONJust as good as new. Now to give you life again.

Toulon, with A SYRINGE in hand, moves to the body of the dead archeologist, Shultz. Shultz' body has been put into a coffin which is there in the baggage car.

Toulon withdraws the fluid from the corpse with the syringe and comes back to inject Pinhead with the life giving elixir that gives all the puppets life. It takes a few moments after the injection for Pinhead to sit up and look around. He seems confused. His huge hands scratch his tiny head. Jester smiles.

TOULON (CONT'D)(satisfied)

Now you're ready for anything.

JUST THEN

...the door into the car is flung open. Curt comes inside.

CURTWho are you talking to, Colonel...Kraus, is it?

Toulon stands up and covers Pinhead with a cloth. His other puppets take cover nearby.

TOULONYes, Kraus. You know my name, Lieutenant!

Curt smiles, he has his hand on his holstered gun. He walks closer to look at what Toulon was doing.

CURTYes, I do know your name.

He lifts the cloth that covers Pinhead and looks down at the unmoving puppet.

CURT (CONT'D)It's grotesque. Who would build such a thing and for what purpose?

TOULONI thought you weren't interested in my "dolls" as you call them.

CURTYours. So they are yours!

Curt turns away from Pinhead. Pinhead stands up and reaches carefully for Curt's holstered gun. He does it in a way that Curt won't see him or feel him lifting the gun.

CURT (CONT'D)(continued)

You know, I spoke with Berlin and they told me a story. A story about a man, named Toulon who controlled puppets without strings. A Perverted freakish man who used these unholy things to kill. He killed over a dozen people. Have you heard of this man?

TOULONYes, these are his puppets. I killed him and confiscated the puppets. I was examining one when you came in.

CURT

Yes, and you were talking to it as well. You know that I think?

There is a tense pause between the two men. The car jostles from side to side constantly.

TOULONI would not presume to know what you are thinking.

CURTThat's very thoughtful of you. But you would presume me to be a young fool. And I think your report of Toulon's death has been exaggerated, but not for long....

Curt goes for his gun, but the holster is empty. Pinhead nudges him in the back with it. Curt's on the wrong end of his own gun.

TOULONI will now presume to say that you like being right all of the time. Perhaps just this once you'd rather be wrong?

Toulon nods at Pinhead. Pinhead cocks the gun and prepares to fire into Curt's back.

TOULON (CONT'D)Don't worry though, you won't live to regret it.

CURTYou know Toulon, I'm surprised to find myself agreeing with you.

Curt nods and...Bey is forced into the baggage car. The German Private has a rifle pressed into the back of Bey's neck.

Toulon can't cover his surprise at the sudden reversal. Curt smiles.

CURT (CONT'D)

Tell your toy to give me back my gun, or Bey's brains will shower us with his knowledge in a most unpleasant way.

TOULONYou Nazis have such pretty ways of describing death. No one will bother to be clever when it's your turn. Although people will laugh again when your kind is gone.

Toulon motions to Pinhead, who dejectedly hands Curt back his own gun. Curt steps away from Toulon and aims it at him.

CURTLaughter is the music of a weak mind.

The other puppets start to move towards Curt.

CURT (CONT'D)(jams his gun into Bey's mouth)

Call off your hellspawn old man!(to the Private)

Get Toulon's gun and bring him over here!

The Private moves warily over to Toulon and takes his gun. He forces Toulon towards Curt at the end of his rifle.

CURT (CONT'D)Toulon, I don't have to listen to sermons from a maniac! Berlin told me you're wanted for killing Colonel Kraus and at least a dozen others. Wait until I take you to General Kron. Finding a monster like you will assure me the promotion I deserve.

TOULONYou're good at finding monster's in the S.S. They're always right there in the mirror looking back at you!

Curt still has his LUGER in Bey's mouth. Curt cocks his head and thinks about what Toulon said.

CURTMonsters? Do you really think so?

He casually pulls the trigger. The back of Bey's head sprays out in a grey cloud. He drops to the floor.

Curt grabs the shocked Toulon by the lapel and puts the pistol in his face.

CURT (CONT'D)You know what's funny about this?

TOULONI'm not laughing. It's the music of a weak mind.

Curt shakes Toulon roughly.

CURTA poor choice of words, I admit. Let's say what's ironic is that if you had showed me the respect I deserved I never would have suspected you. You might have fooled all of us if you had only done that.

TOULONI'll remember that for next time.

CURTThey'll be no next time for you Toulon. Not after Kron finds out all that I know.

With their Master being led away at gun point the puppets can only watch. Toulon and the two Nazis are about to exit the baggage car when...

ON THE FLOOR

Bey starts to move. We see that although there is a huge hole in the back of his head there is NO BLOOD.

He sits up and concentrates...calling out with his mind....

QUICK CUT TO:


The frozen Humonculus comes back to life as Bey calls it. It leaves the room. Blade who is still there with it follows. Tunneler is still stuck high up on the wall. Six Shooter aims carefully and BLASTS Tunneler free with a carefully aimed shot. Then they both follow after Blade.


The train continues to rattle forward as Toulon is marched down the narrow hall. The Private is in front of Toulon and Curt is behind. They are about halfway down the hall when, A LIGHT at the end of the hall goes out with the crack of glass.

The Private stops and aims his MACHINE GUN at the now dark end of the hall.

CURTKeep going.

ANOTHER LIGHT goes out with the crack of glass. The end of the car they are heading for is now completely swallowed in darkness. The Private stops.

PRIVATESomething's there.

Curt pulls Toulon closer to himself and presses the 9mm into his temple.

CURTCheck it out!

The Private is obedient if obviously extremely reluctant.

He walks down the shaking hall and disappears in the dark end.

There is moment where nothing happens. Toulon and Curt wait and watch.

GUNSHOTS come from the end of the hallway. In the FLASHES of the shots they see the Private being engulfed by snapping teeth and killer puppets. It only lasts a few seconds.

Curt starts to pull Toulon back with him and retreat from the deadly darkened end of the hallway.

But lights start being smashed out in that direction also. Curt stops.

Trapped.

CURT (CONT'D)(yells into the approaching darkness)

I'll kill your Master!

TOULONKill me and they will come down on you like rain.

The light directly over them is SMASHED OUT. Curt looks up to see Blade hanging above them on the ceiling near the light he's just broken.

Curt aims his gun up and shoots as Blade drops down on him SLASHING.

Toulon is free. In the claustrophobic darkened hallway, Curt crawls away for dear life. Blade slashes at him as he goes. But Curt won't give up. He's finally reached the door that leads to the baggage car and manages to open it. He slams it in Blade's face and holds the door closed.

INT. SPACE BETWEEN CARS - NIGHT

Curt pulls himself to his feet and stands in the covered tunnel-like space between the two cars. He turns and opens the door into the baggage car.

Bey stands in the door frame, blocking his way.

CURTBut I killed you!

AHMAD BEYI'm here to return the favor.

Bey raises his hands. He has a Humonculi standing in each palm. They leap onto Curt!

He falls sideways into the flimsy canvas side of the tunnel. With A RIP he tumbles out into the night and the GRINDING SOUNDS of the metal train wheels barreling along the tracks.

Bey and the Humonculi look out from the hole. There is no sign of Curt. Toulon joins him there. He looks at the gaping wound in Bey's head.

TOULONMy God man! There's no blood. There wasn't any blood when Blade cut your finger earlier this evening either.

Bey raises a hand and almost thoughtfully fingers the dry cavity in the back of his head.

AHMAD BEYI have many secrets.

TOULONEnough to stop the Nazis?

Bey covers the hole in his head with the traditional Arab head gear. No one would ever know it was there.

AHMAD BEYI hope, but I have weaknesses as well. That's why we must get The Eye of Osiris back from Mesmer.

CUT TO:


Mesmer sits in his wheelchair with an odd smile on his face. It's because he's watching...

CLAIRE

...who's wrapped only in a tablecloth while hysterically recounting the story of her attack. Kron is also there listening.

CLAIREThe Puppets tried to kill us both, but I got away!

KRONPuppets? You are talking about Kraus's dolls?

CLAIREYes and there was another creature which must be like the things that killed Shultz.

KRONI've got men searching the train. We'll find who or what's responsible. What do you think of all this Professor?

MESMER(adjusts his glasses)

I think you've got nice legs, Frau Claire!

Claire winds up to slap Mesmer. Kron grabs her arm and stops her.

KRON(to Mesmer)

Was that really necessary?

MESMERI was only trying to lighten the attractive doctor's mood.

CLAIREYou pathetic cripple! When they come for you you'll be helpless in that chair.

Mesmer rolls himself away from her.

MESMERI understand how someone young and physical like you would forget that there are powers more important than legs and arms.

Mesmer reaches down and pulls up one pant leg to reveal that he has a WOODEN LEG and in the leg is a door held shut with a latch. Mesmer opens this hidden compartment. He reaches in and pulls out...

THE JEWELED EYE OF OSIRIS

Claire is sick of Mesmer.

CLAIREYes, yes I know. What has Germany come to? Trinkets and idolatry to fight off bombs and bullets!

She storms from the room still wrapped in her table cloth.

KRON(checks his watch)

I'm going to personally supervise the search for Curt. Kraus and Bey are missing as well.

MESMERKraus. Curt didn't trust him. What did the radio man tell you about Curt's conversation with Berlin?

KRONIt was confidential. He didn't hear it. Curt said he was going to get Kraus and then he vanished. I can't get through to Berlin myself. Another air raid has cut us off.

(wipes sweat from his forehead)

This is going to be...close.

MESMERThese things that attacked Claire are being controlled. I suspect Bey. If you find Bey alive it's as

good a proof as any that he's behind it. Bey is definitely a threat!

KRON(nods anxiously)

I've got to go. I'll send someone to watch you.

MESMERSave the manpower to put a stop to the killing. I'll be fine.

KRONI'm still going to send someone as soon as I can spare them.

Mesmer waves Kron off. Kron leaves the room.

THE JEWEL sparkles in Mesmer's hand. He's not the only one in the room who sees it.

UNDER A TABLE

...Pinhead and a Humonculus watch as Mesmer puts the jewel back into the hidden compartment in his leg.

MESMER wheels himself over to the bar at one end of the car. He pours himself a big drink. He wets his lips and raises his glass.

MESMERTo midnight and the Fuhrer.

He is toasting a portrait of Hitler which hangs over the bar. The dark mad eyes look out as we...

DISSOLVE


CLOSE SHOT of the orders that were stolen by Toulon and Bey in their attack on Claire. Toulon is reading out loud.

TOULONThe Fuhrer will meet the train as scheduled at the border. He expects not to be disappointed.

(turns to Bey)It's signed by Joseph Goebbels.

Bey is sitting in front of Anubises' crate. He seems to be in a trance. His eyes are closed.

TOULON (CONT'D)Did you hear me? Can you hear me?

AHMAD BEY(after a moment)

Yes. Don't worry. I see our salvation at hand.

CLOSE-UP OF BEY AS HIS EYES OPEN WE....

DISSOLVE


HIGH ANGLE. We are seeing through a HUMONCULUS'S POINT OF VIEW. Mesmer is wheeling himself down the narrow passageway. He rolls directly beneath us. WE DROP DOWN towards him.

NORMAL ANGLE

...in the hallway as the Humonculus lands on Mesmer's wooden leg and begins tearing away the fabric to get at the hidden jewel inside.

Mesmer screams in surprise and beats at the creature with one hand.

From behind him, Pinhead starts to push the wheelchair down the hall with his massive hands. Mesmer is being pushed towards the door at the end of the hall. The door is plainly marked with a LAST CAR: DO NOT OPEN DOOR sign.

Mesmer can only scream. He tries to hold the wheels, but he isn't strong enough.

He's sailing down the hall at high speed.

The Humonculus gets the hidden-door open and grabs the jewel out from Mesmer's leg. It then leaps off and rolls to one side as we...

CUT TO:

EXT. LAST CAR OF TRAIN - NIGHT

The door bursts open and Mesmer, wheelchair and all, comes flying out of rear of the moving train. He hits the tracks and cartwheels violently when he crash lands. He's still in the chair rolling and flipping over and over again....

He disappears into the night, leaving behind a broken and mangled wheel from the chair which wobbles to a stop in the middle of the tracks.


Pinhead and the Humonculus look at the jewel that is finally in their control. The emerald eye glistens at them brightly as we...

MATCH CUT of Bey's eyes as they open. Toulon is next to him. Bey stands up quickly.

AHMAD BEYI see it. We have The Eye of Osiris. It is on its way back to us right now.

TOULONIf we can control the statue we can use it to kill Hitler himself. Tonight!

Bey seems worried.

AHMAD BEYYes, but that's not all I see. Strike me.

TOULONWhat?

AHMAD BEY

There's no time to explain, hit me.

THERE IS A CRASH.

The door into the baggage car comes open. Nazis move into the car. Puppets hide as they enter.

Toulon understands now. He knocks Bey to the ground and pulls his gun.

TOULONQuick, Help. I've got him!

KRON and SIX TROOPS are in the room. Their guns are on both Toulon and Bey.

TOULON (CONT'D)Thank God you've come....

KRONI must ask you to give us your gun Kraus. If that's who you really are?

TOULONOf course that's who I am! What are you talking about?

KRONYour weapon!

Every barrel is aimed at Toulon and Bey.

TOULONI will give up my weapon, because I trust you General Kron. I hope my trust will be returned.

He almost politely gives Kron his gun. Kron looks from Toulon to Bey. His eyes narrow.

KRONWhere's Curt?

AHMAD BEY(yelling)

I killed him you Nazi bastard! Just as I will kill you all with the power of my God!

KRONCurt is dead?

CUT TO:

EXT. SIDE OF TRAIN - NIGHT

Curt. He's unconscious but not dead. He's hanging from the side of the train by his jacket. It caught there as he fell out of the train when the Humonculi attacked him. He's been hanging there ever since. The cold air revives him. In shock Curt looks down at his feet hanging just inches from the ground rushing under the train. The sound of the steam engine and the air blasting by are deafening.

He grabs at the side of the train with both hands. Looking up a few feet he can see into the hole he fell through.

He reaches up towards it.

DR. Claire, now fully clothed, comes walking past the hole on her way to the baggage car.

Curt yells out to her. There's so much noise that he barely makes a sound.


Claire stops and listens. Did she hear someone call her name? Did she hear Curt?

She shrugs it off and steps on into the baggage car. At her feet we see Leech Woman. She walks over to the hole in the side of the passageway.

CURT'S HAND...

Gets a grip on the edge. He's pulling himself up. Leech Woman convulses. Her throat swells. She regurgitates a leech onto Curt's grasping hand.

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

Curt yells in pain and pulls his hand away. The Leech is drawing blood. Curt tries to shake it off. His jacket rips some and he slips down the side of the train a few inches. His feet are now actually dragging along the train tracks.

He pulls himself up with both hands this time.

A LEECH DROPS ONTO HIS FACE.

CUT TO:


Claire walks in on Kron's continued interrogation of Bey and Toulon.

KRONWhat about those dolls of yours? DR. Claire says they attacked her?

CLAIREThey did attack me?

AHMAD BEYI took control of them as well as the Humonculi. Kraus knew nothing of it!

Claire looks at Toulon suspiciously.

KRONYou seem eager to clear Kraus.

AHMAD BEYI'd just as soon see you all dead.

TOULONCan't you see he's trying to implicate me. It's a trick!

Claire has an idea.

CLAIREYou'd like us to believe you wouldn't you Kraus?

Everyone looks at her.

TOULONYou should believe it because it's true! It has nothing to do with what I want.

KRONYou certainly want to live, so we'd better believe you.

CLAIREHe can prove it right now and stop all this shouting?

KRONHow?

CLAIREHe can kill Bey.

KRON(impressed)

An excellent idea. I like your style Doctor.

CLAIREIt's the scientific approach. Direct. Unequivocal. Irrecoverable.

KRONBig words for a simple deed.

Kron presses the cold steel of his automatic into Toulon's hand. Other guns are poked into his back.

Toulon and Bey exchange looks. Toulon knows, of course, that bullets won't kill Bey. He aims.

TOULONI have no problem doing this if you're willing to waste the bullet.

He fires into Bey's chest. Bey groans and pitches forward onto his face.

Toulon hands the smoking gun back to Kron. Claire checks Bey for a pulse.

CLAIREHe's dead. He's already cold.

She seems perplexed by this.

KRON(to Toulon)

I'm satisfied with your loyalty, for now Kraus.

Claire tears part of Bey's shirt open to look at the aged skin of one of his arms beneath. There are stitches there, almost as if Bey had his arm sewed on.

CLAIRE(examining the stitches)

Bey's had some extensive surgery.

KRONIt hardly matters now.

(looks at his watch)We've wasted enough time here.

Claire stands up and follows Kron and Toulon as they head for the exit.

ON THE FLOOR

Bey opens his eyes and watches them go. TWO SOLDIERS put a sheet over his head as they begin to clean up.


Kron and company step out of the baggage car into the small space between cars.

CLAIRE General Kron.

Kron stops, he's standing right next to the hole in the canvas. Somewhere just below him outside...

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

Curt is still trying to crawl up into the train. He is almost completely covered with Leech Woman's leeches. He sees Kron stopped in the opening above him.

He makes one last effort to attract attention. He reaches up.

His jacket, the only thing holding him to the train, rips a little bit more....


Leech Woman moves quickly to hide as the group comes out of the baggage car. Claire is in mid conversation with Kron.

CLAIREI thought I'd do an autopsy on Bey.

KRONWhy, I can tell you the cause of death myself....

A STRANGE NOISE comes from outside the train. A MUFFLED YELL.

Kron looks out through the hole into the night.

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

There is nothing there to see. Curt has fallen off the train. Just out of Kron's field of view a single piece of flapping cloth with a NAZI EAGLE INSIGNIA is still stuck to the side of the train. There is no other trace that Curt was ever there.


Kron stops looking and shrugs.

KRONWhat was I saying, oh yes. Forget about Bey, Doctor. I want that car cleaned up. We've only got an hour.

(turns and starts walking away)

Bey will still be dead.


Bey is put into a make shift WOODEN COFFIN. The lid is placed over him. In the half-light of the coffin interior we see Bey start to move.

He hears THE SOLDIERS walk away from the coffin. A few moments pass and then he hears something tearing open a bottom corner of the coffin.

He looks down and sees....

A Humonculus crawl through the hole in the coffin. In its twisted hands it carries the jeweled Eye Of Osiris Bey reaches down and takes it from the Humonculus and clasps it to his chest, right over the bullet wound.

The wound heals beneath it.


Kron slams his fist down on the table.

KRONWhere is he?

THE RADIO MAN stammers in front of Kron.

RADIO MANI don't know. I only found these near the open door of the last car of the train.

He holds up a pair of reading glasses. Claire takes them.

CLAIRE(holds them up to look through them)

They are Mesmer's all right. No one else on this train is that blind.

Claire is almost happy that Mesmer is gone. She can barely hold back a smile as she hands the glasses over to Kron.

Kron twists the frames into a pretzel and throws them away.

KRONI don't suppose you know anything about this Kraus?

NOW WE SEE Toulon with them in the car as well. TWO SOLDIERS flank Toulon on each side.

TOULONI've been with you the past half hour, you know that...

Kron waves his hand to silence Toulon. He fumes for a moment, trying to hold himself together.

KRONDon't tell me what I know.

There is a tense silence.

KRON (CONT'D)(to the two men by Toulon)

Lock him up in his cabin. I'll deal with you later. Right now you're not worth my time.

Toulon is dragged from the quarters without a word. Claire, and the Radio man stand uneasily with Kron.

KRON (CONT'D)What's the matter with you two?

CLAIREThis entire operation is getting out of control. How can we possibly....

KRONThere are no possibilities here Doctor. None! There is only the necessity that we do what we set out to do. If every last one of you lay dead at my feet and all of the forces of heaven and hell were against me I'd walk over your bodies and continue for as long as I live -- and even beyond my own death, if need be -- until it was done!

Claire nods and sits down at a table. Mesmer's books are piled up on it. The Radio man stands, not knowing what to do.

KRON (CONT'D)(to the Radio man)

Get back to the Radio room and get me Berlin. Don't show your face to me again until you do.

The soldier clicks his heels together and leaves the room with great haste.

CLAIRE(flips through some books)

How does Mesmer's....we might as well say it...death affect tonight's...demonstration?

KRONIt doesn't. Not at all. I know almost as much as Mesmer did. I know the ceremony.

CLAIREBut what about the jewel? I thought it was needed to control....

KRON(yelling wildly)

We don't have it now do we! So we will do without it! What else would you have me do? You'd have me fail wouldn't you?

CLAIRE(calmly)

Not at all.

KRONTry to say that with more conviction Doctor.

CLAIRE

Your success is important to Germany and all of us. I merely want to understand and control the powers you want to summon in a scientific way.

Kron stands up, again waiving distractedly with his arms to cut her off. He's tired of listening, of thinking.

KRONYes, sure. But tonight's success is clearly of more importance to some than to others.

Kron leaves her alone in the car. She stops flipping through Mesmer's books. She stops on one page, having found something interesting.

She starts to read about the legend of Osiris. There is a picture of Osiris in the book taken from an ancient Egyptian tomb.

The picture shows a GREEN FIGURE of OSIRIS with his head and arms being sewn back onto his body.

CUT TO:

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

The Train whistle blasts white steam up into the sky. In the distance we can see the lights of the town it will reach within the hour.

DISSOLVE


Toulon checks his compartment door. He knows it's locked, he's probably checked it before, more than once. He looks tired. He sits down.

He hears a noise and looks up to a vent near the ceiling of the compartment. Leech Woman looks in at him.

TOULONSo it seems I'm not entirely alone after all.

He reaches up and brings Leech Woman down and perches her on his shoulder.

TOULON (CONT'D)Ah my dear, I'm so tired of running and we are nowhere near America yet.

Leech Woman strokes Toulon's head. He lets his head rest back against the headrest of the seat. He closes his eyes.

TOULON (CONT'D)Perhaps just a little rest for a cursed old man. Maybe even a dream of better times....

Toulon lets himself drift off to sleep. Leech Woman keeps running her hands through his hair.

ZOOM IN --to a close up of Leech Woman's shining eyes. KEEP MOVING IN AS WE....

DISSOLVE

INT. TOULON'S DREAM - DAY/ NIGHT

(MOSTLY STOCK FOOTAGE FROM PUPPETMASTER THREE) Of Toulon and HIS WIFE happily together.

INTERCUT WITH

Toulon with his HITLER PUPPET on strings. He makes the Hitler puppet dance about comically.

Toulon's wife being gunned down by KRAUS and HIS MEN.

CUT TO NEW MATERIAL

INT. LIMBO SET/ TOULON'S DREAM - NIGHT

(This dream hints at events in PUPPET WARS TWO and THREE) Toulon finds himself tangled in the strings of the Hitler puppet. He can't free himself. He's in a mostly dark area with ONE BRIGHT LIGHT spilling onto him.

A SHADOW of someone coming towards him falls across Toulon's face. He'd like to run, but the damn Hitler puppet's strings are now tangled around his arms and legs.

THE HUGE, MONSTROUS SHADOW is getting closer. It engulfs Toulon. HIDEOUS ARMS grab Toulon.

BLOOD SPLATTERS onto the floor.

As Toulon is savaged by the dark shadow his twitching motions make the Hitler puppet jerk and move on the floor.

ZOOM IN....

On the face of the Hitler puppet as Toulon's blood paints it. KEEP MOVING IN until we...

DISSOLVE


Toulon wakes up with a start. He looks out his window to see that the train has stopped at the border town.

Near the train station he can see A CLOCK. It's almost midnight. There are a NUMBER OF BLACK UNIFORMED NAZI TROOPS outside the train.

They are rolling out a red carpet from a larger central area with a sort of altar/podium at its center. A voice comes from behind him.

KRONAndre Toulon.

Toulon turns and sees Kron, Claire and TWO ARMED NAZI GUARDS standing in his doorway. Leech Woman hides behind a pillow on the seat.

KRON (CONT'D)(holds up a telegram)

As soon as we stopped I used the station telegraph office and contacted Berlin.

Kron moves in and sits down on the seat, right on top of Leech Woman. She lets out a barely audible SQUEAK.

KRON (CONT'D)I owe you an apology, Toulon, I've been calling your creations dolls when I should have said puppets. I hope you weren't offended.

TOULONAll Nazi's offend me.

Toulon sits down next to Kron on the seat. He can see Leech Woman's arm reaching out from behind Kron.

TOULON (CONT'D)So I guess this means my invitation to watch your demonstration for Hitler is off.

KRON(smugly)

By no means. In fact you will be an even bigger part of this evening than you would probably like to be.

He nods and the two Guards dash in and seize Toulon. Kron suddenly gets up with a yell.

A LEECH is firmly attached to his upper thigh.

CLAIRE(pointing)

There's one of them now!

Claire points at Leech Woman who is making a dash for the door.

In the tight quarters of the room the guards can't really stop the puppet. Claire however slams the door as Leech Woman makes a dive for it. Both of her legs are caught in the door.

Each guard grabs one of her legs and then the door is reopened. They hold her there between them. She spits out another Leech, it narrowly misses a guard's hand and lands on the floor.

CLAIRE'S SHARP HEELED BOOT crushes the Leech to mush.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)Here! Tie this around its mouth.

Claire takes off her leather belt and they tie it around Leech Woman's mouth, stopping anymore Leeches from emerging.

KRON(clutching his bleeding leg)

Take that filthy thing out of here and destroy it.

CLAIRE(loudly)

No. Toulon has brought inanimate objects to life. If we discover his secret it could save Germany!

The guards look to Kron for an answer. Toulon watches in distress over the fate of his puppet.

KRONAll right, lock it up and let DR. Claire do with it as she will, but I doubt Toulon's discovery will seem like much after we finish here tonight.

CLAIREThank you for humoring me General. I'm sure you are right.

KRON(matter of factly)

If you were sure, you'd let me destroy it.

She is about to speak. He motions her to silence.

KRON (CONT'D)I don't need your understanding or approval of what I'm doing. History will brand one of us a fool. I'll

wait its judgment and let you proceed as you think best.

CLAIREYes sir.

(to the guards)Be careful, don't let it get away.

The two guards start to leave the compartment.

Toulon grabs Kron's gun from his holster and shoots one of the guards in the back of the head. Kron knocks Toulon roughly to the ground, but it's too late...

LEECH WOMAN gets free of the other guard and disappears into the hall.


Leech Woman tears open a vent at floor level and hides inside of it. Claire and the remaining guard come into the hall but find no trace of her.

CLAIREDamnit.

Kron pushes Toulon into the hall with a gun at the back of his head.

KRONThat will be enough of Heir Toulon and his puppets for tonight.

Kron then pistol whips Toulon to the floor. He crumples there unconscious.

KRON (CONT'D)(looks back at the dead guard)

Death is such a messy business.

He looks at his own torn and bloody leg.

KRON (CONT'D)I've got to get cleaned up to meet the Fuhrer.

(to the guard)

Prepare the old man. Are you coming Claire?

She is still looking around the hall for Leech Woman.

CLAIREI'll join you later. I'm just going to check on something.

CUT TO:


The Anubis statue has been covered in a red velvet sheet with a huge Swastika proudly displayed on it.

SIX MEN lift the statue out the open door of the baggage car. The Radio Man, about the only German officer left alive on the train, is supervising the operation.

RADIO MANHurry up.

The statue bumps again at the top of the door with a thump.

RADIO MAN (CONT'D)Slow down, be careful.

ONE SOLDIER grumbles quietly.

SOLDIERMake up your mind.

The statue is now out of the side door of the car. The Radio man checks his watch nervously. Dr. Claire steps out from the shadows.

CLAIREWhere is Bey's body?

RADIO MANWhat, oh, it's in a coffin way in the back.

The Radio Man pulls the heavy sliding door shut. He looks around, but Claire has vanished. He shrugs and leaves the car.

PAN TO REVEAL

Claire further back in the car, walking towards the casket with Bey's body inside.

She picks up a CROWBAR and pries the lid from the casket. Bey is inside, playing dead. Claire looks down at him.

CLAIREI know who you are Bey! I read it in Mesmer's, books and wouldn't have believed it except for the proof.

She tears the shirt away from Bey's neck. There she sees large stitches holding his head to his body. Bey stays perfectly still.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)You are Osiris, the first king of Egypt. Tortured and killed by your jealous brother who then dismembered you and scattered the pieces all over Egypt. But your wife and the God Anubis put you back together, mummified you, and brought you back to life.

Claire pulls a large pair of SURGICAL SCISSORS from her pocket. They glint in the stark light from overhead.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)I'm here to take you apart again.

She snips into the stitches of his neck with a CRUNCH.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)How the mighty have fallen...

She snips down again, but it's the last time. A HUMONCULUS leaps up and bites at her hand.

With a YELL of surprise she pulls back. ANOTHER HUMONCULUS leaps at her face from the lid of the coffin.

Claire falls back to the floor. She struggles to get up, but PINHEAD grabs her by the hair and holds her down. All

the puppets and Humonculi descend on her and hold her flat on her back on the floor. She struggles but can't get up.

ABOVE HER SHE WATCHES AS

Bey/Osiris rises from his coffin and stands over her. His wise and mummified features stare down coldly at her.

AHMAD BEYHow the mighty have fallen.

CUT TO:

EXT. TRAIN STATION - MIDNIGHT

A DOZEN GERMAN SOLDIERS snap into the ridged/raised- arm Nazi salute.

SOLDIERSHEIL HITLER!

A BLACK MERCEDES pulls to a stop. An S.S. GUARD moves to open the door. A figure, HITLER himself begins to get out. (A note here: Hitler will always be shown in shadow or in detailed close-ups of his lips, mustache, etc. He will never be shown fully. This will keep him menacing and avoid any chance of comedy in our presentation of him)

Kron steps forward and salutes.

KRONMein Fuhrer this moment is the greatest honor of my life.

We see Hitler ONLY FROM BEHIND as he casually returns Kron's salute. His motions are slightly feeble, this is Hitler in the final days of the war, ravaged by defeat and insanity.

HITLERYes, yes, let's...get on with it shall we.

He pushes past Kron, heading down the red carpet. SEVERAL AIDES and Kron rush to keep up with him.

KRON

What we will show you tonight will guarantee us victory!

Hitler stops and turns to face Kron. WE SEE THEM BOTH IN SILHOUETTE.

HITLER(yelling at Kron)

How many times must I hear that promise and then see it broken?

Everyone is frozen silently in place.

HITLER (CONT'D)(softly but nervous)

Yes, Yes. Well...as long as this doesn't turn out the way that affair with the Ark did.

(snorts indignantly)And don't even mention that ridiculous incident with the Holy Grail.

Hitler turns and keeps walking.

CUT TO:

EXT. TRAIN STATION PLATFORM - NIGHT

The Anubis statue is still draped in the swastika.

PULL BACK TO REVEAL

A podium in front of the statue with a ROW OF CHAIRS facing the statue. Behind the statue we see THE STOPPED TRAIN. The area is ringed with the SAME NAZI TROOPS we saw in the previous scene. Hitler and some aides take their seats on the podium.

CLOSE UP ON

THE BOOK OF THE DEAD clutched in Kron's arms as he turns to face the podium. He nods to the Radio man, who moves up and pulls back the cloth covering the statue.

Anubis seems poised to strike. Its eyes gleam out from the shining black lacquer and gold leaf on its sleek canine body. It looks right at Hitler.

Kron clears his throat and begins the ceremony.

KRONAnubis, the Egyptian lord of the dead. With the powers of this ancient book...

(holds up the book)I will bring the statue to life and harness its powers to smite our enemies and bring us the ultimate victory we deserve.

Kron turns and looks up at the statue. It towers above him. It must be twelve feet long from head to tail. Kron opens the book and begins to read.

KRON (CONT'D)I have come daily, twice. I have made the way, I have passed along that which created Anubis, your servants, the dead. Lord Anubis come forth from the netherworld.

A COOL WIND blows across the platform. You can feel the chill. Anubis eyes seem brighter.

CUT TO:


Bey watches through a small window in the side of the baggage car. He can't hear Kron speak, but the ceremony is obviously continuing.

He holds the jewel up to his damaged throat stitches. The wound is healing.

BEHIND HIM

...still held down to the floor, Claire watches Bey.

CLAIRE

That jewel. The Eye of Osiris. Is your eye. Your power on this earth. That's it, isn't it?

Bey doesn't answer her. She looks down and sees the handle of HER PISTOL sticking out of its holster. A HUMONCULUS near it hisses at her menacingly.

Turning her eyes to survey the rest of her surroundings, she sees a large crate among many. It has a large label that reveals its contents as a...ANTI-AIRCRAFT-GUN.

AHMAD BEY(to the puppets)

Your master will soon need your help. He gave you life and now needs you to save his.

Blade and Tunneler look at each other.

AHMAD BEY (CONT'D)Go out and wait. You'll know the moment to free him.

Blade and Tunneler let go of Claire and leave the baggage car. Now there are less creatures holding Claire down. She smiles ever so slightly.

CUT TO:


Kron reads on. The cool breeze has become a cold wind that blows the Nazi's black uniforms around.

KRON(still reading from the book)

Open your eyes. Stretch out thy feet. Make strong Anubis thy legs to rise up for thyself. The majesty of Anubis made flesh through and in this vessel.

Kron stops. He's run out of things to say. Its the moment of truth. He looks up at the statue. His eyes are full of

hope. He is practically willing the statue to life. A LOW HOWL rises as the wind blows across the platform.

THE STATUE'S EYES BLINK.

Its legs creak as they stretch and the statue rises to its feet. The crowd watching GASPS in unison.

Anubis tilts its head back and opens its mouth. All Razor sharp teeth. All alive. It throws back its noble and horrifying head and howls above the wind. The bellow of a power beyond hell.

Hitler rises from his seat and begins applauding. Loudly and by himself.

Anubis, the god, looks down at Hitler, the pathetic little man before him. Its ears lay flat back against its head and it looks over all the Nazis gathered at its feet.

Hitler keeps clapping. Others realize they'd better join him.

ANGLE ON KRON.

In his moment of triumph. He smiles and motions to the Radio Man. The Radio Man in turn signals to other soldiers. They wheel Toulon into the scene. He's tied down on a gurney-like platform.

The applause stops. Everyone watches...

As Toulon is wheeled to a stop beneath Anubis' glaring head. The soldiers quickly draw back in fear.

Kron walks up and slaps Toulon to bring him to consciousness. Toulon comes to. Kron leans over to whisper in his ear.

KRONI wouldn't want you to miss this.

The Statue GROWLS LOUDLY and lowers its head closer to Toulon.

Amid the jubilation no one notices, BLADE and TUNNELER. The puppets move amid the Nazi jack boots, towards Toulon.

KRON STEPS BACK and addresses the crowd.

KRON (CONT'D)Now it will kill for me, for us, for Germany.

He reads from the book of the dead again.

KRON (CONT'D)Anubis, divine being among the dead on the night of the making of judgment. Annihilate he who is before you. He is one of the children of rebellion.

Anubis leans closer to Toulon. Its hideous mouth opens and drool drips down onto Toulon.

CUT TO:


Bey still watches through the window. Anubis is moving even closer to Toulon. Bey lifts up the jeweled eye in front of one of his own eyes. He speaks in a low voice.

AHMAD BEYAnubis, I am fate and Osiris. Let them deceive you not. They have done battle...

Bey's voice continues as we

CUT TO:


The statue pulls back from Toulon. Its eyes narrow as it looks over the black clad Nazi's around it.

AHMAD BEY(CONT'D voice only)

They have done evil, they have created fiends, they have made slaughter, and surely they have turned the mighty against the weak.

The statue takes a step towards the platform where Hitler sits. A GUARD moves between Anubis and the platform.

AHMAD BEY (CONT'D)(voice only)

Not seest thou evil, not art thou enraged!

Anubis strikes! It grabs the guard in its mouth and shakes furiously. Blood and body parts fly loose.

KRON(in a panic)

Don't panic. I can control it!

Nobody believes him.

GUNS ARE DRAWN.

A volley of fire hits Anubis. But it's of no use.

Anubis bites ANOTHER GUARD practically in half as it advances on the stage. The platform collapses and Hitler is trapped there in the debris. Anubis is closing in. At this rate Hitler will soon be in the jaws of the monster.

CUT TO:


Bey is still talking to, commanding Anubis from his spot at the window.

AHMAD BEYMay it happen that the evil one shall fall when he setteth in the order of destruction. Cut asunder his vertebrae.

Claire can't see what's going on outside, but knows from the sounds that things aren't going the Nazi's way. She takes her chance.

She rolls violently to one side. Pinhead who is holding her down by the hair tears away a large shank of hair, but she rolls free.

Claire pulls her gun. A Humonculus is coming for her. She blasts it. It is blown back onto its butt. It gets up again, still alive, but she's gotten away.

Bey hears the noise and turns from the window. Claire aims at the jewel in his hand.

SHE FIRES.

She hits her target. THE JEWEL IS SHATTERED by the bullet.

CLAIRENow let's see if you bleed.

She fires again. The bullet hits Bey in the center of his forehead. He's still standing. But then....

BLOOD STARTS TO RUN FROM HIS HEAD. IT COMES FASTER.

AHMAD BEYWe will meet again, soon in my world; the afterlife.

Bey falls to the floor and dissolves into ancient dust.

CUT TO:

EXT. PLATFORM - NIGHT

Anubis knows Bey/Osiris is dead. It howls in rage. In that moment, soldiers free Hitler and he escapes.

Soldiers keep firing uselessly at Anubis and pandemonium is everywhere.

Toulon is still tied down, but not for long. Blade cuts him free with his long knife. Tunneler unties his feet. Toulon picks up his puppets and then heads for the safety of the train as...

ANUBIS goes completely crazy. Snapping and killing anyone within reach.

Bullets ricochet and put out the overhead lights, leaving the scene on the platform in nightmarish half-light.

EXT. FRONT OF TRAIN STATION - NIGHT

Hitler stops and looks back at the carnage before he gets into his Mercedes. He shakes his head. WE SEE his mouth with the famous mustache in CLOSE UP.

HITLERThe war is lost.

He gets into the black Mercedes and it motors off into the night.


Claire's war goes on. A Humonculus is biting into her hand.

She puts her gun to its head and fires. It is blown to the floor. It gets up, but red blood spurts from the wound and it falls over dead. The remaining two Humonculi look at their fallen comrade in surprise.

CLAIREWith your master gone, you're flesh and blood!

Claire fires, driving back the Puppets and Humonculi.

She backs into THE CRATE which holds the anti-aircraft gun. With her LAST BULLET she shoots off the lock and opens it. She then throws her gun at Jester who is advancing on her. The gun knocks Jester over.

Claire disappears inside of the now open anti-aircraft crate.

The two Humonculi rush the crate.

WHITE HOT GUN FIRE

....comes from inside of the crate. Claire sits behind the FOUR BARRELED AK-AK GUN.

Every barrel blazes as she pivots the guns around. The sound of the firing is deafening.

THE HUMONCULI are ripped apart by the shells. The Puppets duck from the flying body pieces.

SIX SHOOTER takes aim and returns fire. His bullets bounce off the blast shield of the Ak Ak gun which Claire ducks behind.

She aims at Six Shooter. He dives behind a box. Her fire rips large holes in the side of the box car. Claire laughs the good laugh.

MEANWHILE


The Nazis are falling back, tripping over THE BODIES of their maimed comrades. Kron sees Toulon climb aboard the train.

KRON(shouting orders to whoever will hear)

Fall back to the train! Fall back.

A BLOODY SOLDIER falls dead at his feet. Kron runs for the engine.

THE TRAIN ENGINE...billows smoke as Kron climbs up into it. The Radio Man is near the controls.

KRON (CONT'D)Get us out of here!

The Radio Man looks over the controls in confusion.

KRON (CONT'D)What are you waiting for?

RADIO MANI don't know what to do? I'm a radio man not an engineer.

KRONThen where the hell's the engineer?

The Radio Man looks out across the platform.

RADIO MAN(pointing)

Here he comes now!

BOTH OF THEM WATCH AS

....THE ENGINEER is attacked and eaten by Anubis. They hear his high pitched screams as he's pulled into the shadows.

BACK TO SCENE

Kron looks at the Radio man.

RADIO MAN (CONT'D)I'm on it.

Kron leans out of the engine and yells to some nearby soldiers.

KRONGet aboard! We're leaving.

EXT. THE TRAIN - NIGHT

The HUGE WHEELS of the engine start to turn. Steam and black smoke billows up around it as the train jerks forward. The Wheels spin on the tracks, shooting out sparks.


As the train lurches forward, Toulon is nearly thrown from his feet. He grabs a chair to support himself.

Tunneler is in one pocket and Toulon still holds Blade in one hand.

TOULONWe've got to get to the baggage car to help Bey.

He starts for the door when...

IT OPENS

....and a NAZI SOLDIER comes in. He aims his rifle at Toulon. Toulon throws Blade at the man.

BLADE's super long knife goes into the front of the man's neck and then juts out the back. He's dead before he hits the floor.

Toulon picks up the man's rifle. Blade pulls himself free and they head for the baggage car.

EXT. TRAIN ENGINE - NIGHT

The Radio man opens the throttle up all the way. The train jerks and rattles badly as it picks up speed. He turns to Kron who is right next to him.

RADIO MANWe're safe now.

A MONSTROUS PAW knocks the Radio man down. The crack of his neck breaking can be heard above the roar of the engines boiler.

Kron steps back as Anubis pulls itself into the small open control cabin of the engine. It slavers and roars at Kron.

Kron fires his Luger, but the bullets, while they last, have no effect on the monster. Kron grabs up the coal shovel and uses it to knock Anubis's head away from him as it lunges repeatedly at him.

A blow from the shovel goes wild and cuts the brake lines to the train.

IT'S A RUNAWAY.

Kron climbs up into the coal bunker car behind the engine. He keeps the shovel swinging and keeps retreating as Anubis advances.

Kron is covered with coal soot by the time he finally makes it to...


Kron gets inside the car and slams the door shut behind him.

TWO SOLDIERS rush to his aid.

KRON

It's right behind me! Hold it here and I'll get some heavy artillery from the baggage car.

Kron runs down the hallway. The train is still picking up speed and the motion jostles him from one side of the hall to the other.

BACK BY THE DOOR

Anubis bursts through and is greeted by a hail of gunfire from the two soldiers.

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

The train is well away from town and rolling wildly through the hills. The wheels bounce on the rough tracks. It's only a matter of time before it derails. And not much time.


Toulon opens the door and steps in amid the dim crates and boxes.

TOULON(calling out)

Bey! It's me, Toulon?

There's no answer. Then...

CLAIRE(voice only)

I killed him.

TOULONHow?

Claire's gun answers for her. WHITE FLASHES as the anti-aircraft fire pelts the wall. It tears huge holes in the door.

Toulon immediately dives for cover.

Claire stops firing and loads up another belt of large shells into the gun. Then she aims at the box Toulon is behind and opens fire.

THE BOX IS SHREDDED.

Toulon has moved on. All his puppets are there around him.

TOULON (CONT'D)Tunneler, Six Shooter, listen.

The two puppets look up at him expectantly.

TOULON (CONT'D)All right, Tunneler, drill a hole in the side of this car. Then the two of you can climb up the outside of the car and come down behind her.

The puppets nod and Tunneler starts his drill in anticipation.

ANOTHER VOLLEY OF FIRE

Rips into the crates around Toulon. He and the puppets duck. The gunfire stops again, the car is thick with smoke and the smell of gunpowder.

CLAIREStill alive Toulon? I'll trade you the secret of giving your puppets life for your own life!

TOULONI agree to your terms.

Toulon is bluffing, he motions the two puppets to start drilling their way out of the car.

CLAIREYou're as wise as you are old.

Claire smiles and aims the gun in the direction where she thinks Toulon is hiding. Her finger is poised on the trigger.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)Come out with your hands in the air and a puppet in each hand.

BEHIND THE CRATE

Toulon takes off HIS HAT and puts it on the end of Blade's oversize knife.

TOULONHere I come, please don't shoot.

CLAIRE(off screen)

Oh, I won't.

He lifts Blade in one hand and Blade gingerly lifts the hat even higher so that it sticks above the edge of the crate.

THUNDEROUS GUNFIRE

...roars out and vaporizes Toulon's hat. It also blows Blades new blade off of his arm.

Toulon ducks down with the puppet still in one hand. Blade looks distraught.

TOULONSorry Blade. I can make you a new blade, but I've only got one head.

Toulon looks around to see how Tunneler and Six Shooter are doing. Tunneler finishes the hole in the wall and Six shooter starts to climb out.

ACROSS THE CAR

...Claire waits. She doesn't know if she got Toulon or not.

CLAIREAre you there Toulon?

(still silence)Or are you dead?

TOULON(off screen)

Yes, I'm dead. Your evil genius has gotten the better of me.

CLAIRE(angry)

I've got more ammo than you've got hats!

She opens up with the gun again. Then she stops at listens.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)Come on, Toulon. I want to hear you weep for your dead friend Bey. He was easy to kill.

TOULONI am Bey now. His ideas are mine. You can't kill off the will to overthrow evil.

CLAIREStand up and I'll show you just how wrong you can be!

She opens fire again, a noisy hail of gunfire that tears up everything in its path. Toulon moves to hide behind another crate as the previous one is turned into splinters.

Leech Woman, Jester and Pinhead have managed to sneak behind a stack of crates that is right next to Claire. Pinhead pushes on the stack and it teeters back and forth and then.

IT FALLS...

Towards Claire, knocking the gun's barrels to one side. The three puppets try to rush her.

Claire recovers and spins the gun in their direction. The high caliber bullets narrowly miss ripping the puppets to pieces.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)You'll have to do better than that!

THE DOOR INTO THE CAR behind her...swings open and TWO FIGURES move into the car.

Claire swings the gun around and fires at them. She kills one of them, but then a voice yells out.

KRON(off screen)

Stop, Stop. You're killing your own!

CLAIRE(ceases fire)

General Kron, quick, get over here where it's safe!

She doesn't see the hole being drilled in the wall behind her. Tunneler is breaking through.

KRON RUNS FOR IT.

He reaches Claire and hides behind the gun's blast shield.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)I've got Toulon and his puppets pinned down, but I don't know how long I can hold them off.

KRONYou won't have to for long. The train's out of control. We're in Esserstrassen Pass and gaining speed. We're going to derail.

CLAIREGreat. Is there any more good news?

She gets her answer from the wall behind them. Six Shooter fires on them. Sparks fly off the gun as his bullets wound Kron in the shoulder. Claire ducks.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)Help me spin it around.

They both struggle with the gun. But now they have their backs to Toulon's other puppets.

JESTER leaps onto her back. PINHEAD trips Kron.

Both Nazi's hit the floor. Toulon and Leech Woman are advancing on them as well.

Claire grabs a piece of broken crate and uses it to HOCKEY PUCK Jester into a wall. She then slams the board down onto Pinhead and frees Kron.

She pulls Kron to his feet. Six Shooter's laugh freezes them in place. Six Shooter has them dead in his sites. And if that wasn't enough...

PINHEAD is now behind the trigger of the anti-aircraft gun. It's aimed at them as well.

TOULONI don't know what to say...

Toulon steps into the light.

TOULON (CONT'D)...except good bye. It's been unpleasant knowing you.

Toulon nods. The puppets cock their guns.

THEN ANUBIS ROARS INTO THE SCENE.

In a fury the beast knocks the Anti-aircraft gun over with its head. Pinhead jumps free. The gun's trigger is locked forward and the gun wildly fires, knocking out the lights. The strobe-like flashes from its barrels are the only light.

In the flickering light, Kron rises oblivious to any danger. Madness in his eyes.

KRONAnubis, my God! See them as they run. RUN. RUN!...to the ends of the earth, but there is no escape. No corner for our enemies to hide in and mourn their dead!

In the flickering blasts the ancient monster looks at the raving Kron. It's a vision from the deepest region of hell.

KRON (CONT'D)Lead us to victory! For the glory of the Reich!

Anubis will have no more of his screaming, or the noise of the firing gun.

It lunges! It's going for Kron's throat

Claire pulls Kron from its grasp. Just as...

SUDDENLY the entire train lurches and everyone is sent sprawling to the floor.

CUT TO:

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

The train's wheels bounce and jerk on the rusty tracks. It hurtles forward unevenly through the tight curves of mountain's track bed. It can't keep this up much longer.


Anubis smashes the anti-aircraft gun into scrap metal. It stops firing and they are all plunged into almost complete blackness. The car rocks roughly back and forth with the motion of the train.

Claire is helping Kron up.

CLAIREAre you all right?

KRON(shakes her hands off)

I'm not afraid of a forgotten god or an old man.

(then yells it out into the car)

Do you hear that? Either of you!

Anubis is quiet now. It lowers its huge canine head and nuzzles the dusty remains that were Bey.

Toulon watches from a nearby hiding place.

THEN LIGHT POURS IN.

Kron has slung open the sliding door of the baggage car. He helps Claire swing outside.

KRON (CONT'D)

You first, you just saved my life. I'll be right behind you.

She's safely on the ladder and heading for the roof of the car.

Before joining her, Kron yells back into the car.

KRON (CONT'D)Don't give up! You've still got time before we crash. Kill me, if you can! It will be your only chance!

He laughs and swings himself out and onto the ladder.

EXT. BAGGAGE CAR - NIGHT

The Two Nazis climb up a ladder and reach the roof of the baggage car. They have to hold on for dear life. The wind and smoke blow across them. Kron takes the lead as they crawl on their bellies towards the front of the car.


Toulon hears them overhead.

TOULONThey're trying to get to the engine.

He sees Six Shooter and Pinhead climb out the open door.

TOULON (CONT'D)No wait! It's too late for that!

EXT. BAGGAGE CAR ROOF - NIGHT

The two puppets climb up and start after Kron and Claire. Six Shooter fires, but the shaking train prevents him from getting off a clear shot.

Kron fires back, but can't hit either puppet.

CLAIRE(behind Kron)

Come on! They're gaining on us.

In fact, Pinhead grabs one of her legs at that very moment. She screams and loses her grip.

She and the puppet roll towards the edge of the car. Her leg and Pinhead dangle over the side of the careening train.

KRON(grabbing her wrist)

Hang on!

Claire slips further off the roof, until she manages to get a grip on the edge on the car with one hand. Pinhead is tightly wrapped around her ankle with his legs and hands.

Six Shooter doesn't dare fire with his fellow puppet hanging over into the abyss.

Claire pulls herself partially back onto the roof. She looks down at Pinhead there on her leg.

CLAIREDie you freakish bastard!

She begins swinging her leg so that Pinhead is smashed against the hard metal of the car's side. She does it over and over again.

Pinhead takes the abuse for a while, but then it's too much for him, he drops off into space.

He falls and falls. The ground and rocky cliffside races up to meet him. Pinhead covers his eyes with his huge hands and waits for the impact.

BLADE'S HOOK

....reaches out from inside of the car and catches Pinhead by the collar. Toulon reaches out and helps pull Pinhead inside to safety.


Toulon sets Pinhead down.

TOULONCome on my friends. We've got to save ourselves.

The puppets follow Toulon towards the front of the car. They open the bullet ridden door.


Toulon points down at THE COUPLER that holds their car to the rest of the doomed train.

TOULONPinhead and Tunneler, climb down, cut the hoses and detach us from the rest of the train. It's our only hope.

The puppets dutifully climb down. Tunneler uses his drill to attack the hydraulic lines that keep the baggage car connected to the train.

EXT. TRAIN ROOF - NIGHT

Kron and Claire have reached the front edge of the car. In order to get to the roof of the next car they have to stand and jump for it.

They are just barely able to get to their feet.

KRONWe go together on the count of three.

Kron doesn't get around to counting. Six Shooter gets off another round of shots. Kron aims to return fire, but six shooter blasts THE GUN from his hand. Claire grabs Kron by the arm!

CLAIREThree!

THEY JUMP,

...landing on the forward car just as the baggage car detaches and falls behind the front of the train.

Six Shooter keeps firing at them anyway, but they are already too far ahead to be hit.

EXT. ROOF OF FRONT HALF OF TRAIN - NIGHT

As Kron and Claire pull farther ahead, Kron shouts back at Toulon. He's red faced.

KRONI gave you your chance to kill me and you failed! Next time Toulon. Next time I'll taste your blood! I'll feed your eyes to dogs, and then I'll scatter your ashes in the Dachow latrine. Nothing will stop me. Do you hear me you old cow? Nothing!

Kron's half of the train madly tears ahead around a sharp turn. The wheels nearly jump the track as Kron and his insults disappear in the distance.


The baggage car is on its own now. It comes to a slow stop. Toulon and puppets watch the front of the train as the inevitable occurs.

EXT. TRAIN WRECK - NIGHT

(STOCK FOOTAGE of a train derailing and turning into a spectacular crash of twisted metal and flame on the rocks.)


Smoke from the wreck blows back across Toulon and his puppets as sounds of the rolling crash come to them. A few moments later there is only the quiet of the woods and rocks around them.

Anubis' HOWL tears the silence.

Toulon goes back into the baggage car to investigate.


Toulon reaches the spot where's Bey's remains were. They are gone. He does see Anubis's large paw prints leading out the open side door of the baggage car.

Toulon's eyes follow the tracks as they disappear into the forest.

TOULONBey is with him now, and they are heading south. Heading home.

Leech Woman pulls at Toulon's pant leg. He bends and scoops her up. The other puppets are nearby.

TOULON (CONT'D)Well my friends. It looks like we're on foot.

CUT TO:

EXT. TRAIN WRECKAGE - NIGHT

A GERMAN JEEP drives up amid some tangled debris from the train. Its lights blaze out as it comes to a stop. There are FOUR OTHER GERMANS in it besides THE DRIVER.

DRIVER(looking over the wreck)

Nobody could have survived this.

There is a CRASH of some debris off to the left of the jeep. Everyone in the jeep watches as...

Kron and Claire stumble, bloody but alive, from the twisted remains.

KRONWhat was that you said, soldier?

The Driver gets from the jeep and salutes.

DRIVERNothing, Heir General.

Kron and Claire and helped to the jeep.

DISSOLVE

EXT. BAGGAGE CAR - DAY

SOLDIERS surround the baggage car as it sits by itself on the tracks. The NOON SUN beats down on them. Kron and Claire are bandaged and sitting in the jeep.

ONE SOLDIER comes out of the baggage car and walks smartly up to the jeep.

SOLDIERNothing sir. The car is empty.

KRONWhat about Anubis? It's a huge monster. It was...

Kron stops himself. The soldier is giving him a very strange look.

KRON (CONT'D)That's all soldier. Thank you.

The soldier leaves.

CLAIREThat's it then. Operation Night Eagle is a total loss.

KRON(shakes his head firmly)

We are still alive Doctor. And so is Toulon. Tonight we begin again. There is still a war to be won.

CUT TO:

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT

The moon is above their heads. Kron, Claire and FOUR SOLDIERS stand in the trees waiting.

CLAIREWhat are we waiting for?

Kron seems calm. He scans the woods. There is a slight fog rising in the distance. Kron sees it and smiles.

KRON

They are coming.

THE FOG is spreading through the trees quickly now. Inside the fog they all hear the RUMBLE of horse hooves.

The group of Nazi's is completely surrounding by the swirling, glowing fog. It is all they can see, until dark shapes of MEN ON HORSES approach.

The terrifying silhouettes of the men come to a stop and surround Kron and his group.

KRON (CONT'D)I want you to find Andre Toulon. He's a puppeteer whose puppets have a life of their own. They are somewhere in these woods. Smell his blood, track them down, and bring them back to me.

ONE LARGE FIGURE among the horsemen seems to be the leader. His heavy head nods.

Claire can't believe it.

CLAIREHorses. Kron have you gone insane? That's it, isn't it. You're mad! This is your new secret? Men on horses?

Kron barely bats an eye at her tirade.

KRONThese are not men.

The Leader of the figures speaks for the first time. It's a low frightening voice. We see his mouth in HUGE CLOSE UP.

LEADERAndre Toulon will be ours before sunrise.

He smiles broadly. We see his teeth -- his fangs. The razor sharp canines that draw blood from the living.

These are the Vampire Korps and their mission has just begun.
