Purchasing, Logistics & Supply Chain Management Course Descriptions

Required courses (12 credits)

Supply Chain Management Principles and Practice (3 credits) Survey of supply chain management including: defining the scope of service, procurement and purchasing, materiel management, business concepts within supply chain management including return on investment, value chain principles, contracts and legal issues, operations management within the supply chain, ethics, industry best practices and supply chain management globalization.

Supply Chain Management Logistics (3 credits) Examine transportation and distribution concerns, including: production scheduling, third party logistics, calculating cost of services along the supply chain, warehousing, materiel management, analyzing value of services, staffing and supervision, technology including barcode and RFID systems, supplier management and international logistics.

Supply Chain Management Procurement (3 credits) Explore procurement management and contract administration throughout the supply chain. Topics include procurement policies and procedures, supplier selection, cost analysis, contract negotiation, subcontractor management, strategic sourcing, services vs. goods supply management, bidding and request for proposals, supplier relations, public vs. private sector procurement, international/global supplier issues and overall project management.

Supply Chain Management Practicum (3 credits) Capstone experience focuses on the application of industry best practices. Participants learn strategy and planning skills by exploring challenges facing today’s industry. Topics include aligning supply chain management operations with overall business practices, quality and performance management concerns, application of new technology, expanding globalization, cost cutting and outsourcing.
