Preparation1. Select pictures of peo ple, animals, birds and nature scenes from

the m agazines. M ake sure to have enou gh pictures to keep t hreegroup s of chi ldren o ccupied fo r the activity.

2 . Cu t o ut t h e p ic tu res.3. Prepare the background for the three mu rals by sketching the

scenes on t he po ster bo ard, as show n in Figure A .

Instructions1. Have the chi ldren choose pictures of th ings that they are thank-

ful fo r and glue th ese pictures to the m urals. They m ay drawpictures as well.

2. At t he end of t he act ivi ty, d isplay the murals in a p lace w here a llthe children can see them .

3. Be sure the chi ldren sign their names to the area of the m uralthey made.

Preparation

1. On the bo t tom o f one o f the p la tes, wr ite God crea ted theheavens and the earth.2. Staple tw o pieces of yarn across the p late w here the mem ory

verse is w ritt en. See Figure A .3 . Stap le four p ieces o f yarn to the bo t tom o f the o ther p la te.

Instructions1. W hen the ch ild ren ar rive , show them the mode l o f the mob i le

and h ow each d ay of creation is represented.2. Give the children each eight creat ion p ictures and have them

color the pictures. NOTE: Direct the children to color only a fewduring class t ime, and to f inish color ing t he pictures at ho m e.

3. For p icture 7, have each chi ld draw a p icture of h imself or her-self d oing something th at w ould m ake God h appy.

4. Give the chi ldren each a p aper p late assembly and eight p ictures,

and help them to attach their pictures to make mobiles as fol-lows:A. Place the p late assembly on the table.B. Put g lue on the back o f a p ictu re.C. At tach the end o f the hang ing st r ing to the back o f

that picture.D. Glue the back o f another p ic tu re on the top o f the st r ing .

Tw o pictu res should now be joined back-to-back w ith a hang -ing str ing between them, as shown in Figure C.

Teacher Tips Due to the complexi ty of t h is craf t , be w ell organized and clear

when giving instruct ions. Have older f ive year olds glue their creation pictu res in the order

of creat ion: day one w i th day tw o, etc. Young fo ur year o lds may need extra help wh en glu ing their p ic-

tures to the strings. Remem ber that these are chi ldren. Their w ork does not h ave

to be p er fect . Encourage the chi ldren to te l l the story of creat ion to their fam i lies

w hen they go home.

Preparation1. Cut the p ipe c leaners in halves.2. Cut a 5" x 1" st r ip f rom the poster board for each chi ld.3. W r ite God created the heavens and the ear th. Genesis 1:1 on

each strip.4. Cut the t issue paper into 4" squares.5 . Create a mode l o f the craf t fo llow ing the inst ruct ions.

Instructions

1. Show the ch ild ren the mode l and review w i th them th ings in thew orld th at God m ade: oceans, land, sky, etc.

2. Give each of the children a st r ip of g reen and blue t issue paper.Instruct them to tear the p apers into small pieces.

3. Give each of the chi ldren the g lue and a Styrofoam bal l. Letthem glue th e pieces of t issue paper t o t he ball , as show n inFigure A.

4. Give the chi ldren each a p ipe cleaner and a w hi te t issue paper

str ip. Help them att ach these item s to the balls as fol low s:A. Instruct them to tear of f a smal ler p iece of the w hi te t issue

paper. Explain to them that this represents a bird.B. Help the chi ldren to wrap one end of their p ipe c leaners

around their birds, then twist them to fasten in place. SeeFigure B.

C. Help them to st ick the other end of their p ipe c leaners intoth eir balls.

5. Give each of the chi ldren a poster board st r ip wi th the mem oryverse writ ten on it and tape. Instruct them each to tape theirpapers, end to end, so that i t form s a stand (a circle w ith th ememory verse facing out).

6 . Have them put the ir g lobes on top o f t he ir stands, as show n inFigure C.

ConclusionAs the children are m aking th eir crafts, ask th em to t alk about their

favorite places in the w orld. Tell them that God m ade tho se placesfor us to enjoy because he loves us so much!
