Preamble of the Syllabus :The credit based system brings a qualitative change in the way M.Sc. (ComputerScience) is taught, which offers a more enriched learning experience. It aims toprovide technology-oriented students with the knowledge and ability to developcreative solutions, and better understand the effects of future developments ofcomputer systems and technology on people and society.
The syllabus is about developing skills to learn new technology, grasping theconcepts and issues behind its use and the use of computers.
1. Master’s degree in Computer would be of 100 credits, where one creditcourse of theory will be of one clock hour per week running for 15 weeksand one credit for project course will consist of 15 of baboratory hours.Thus, each credit will be equivalent to 15 hours.
2. Student will have to take admission and complete at least 75 creditsincorporated in the syllabus structure of Computer Science. The remaining25 credits can be chosen from courses offered by the other Departmentssubjects (other than Computer Science courses) of the College with creditsystem structure.
3. Every student shall complete 100 credits in minimum of four semesters. AllSemesters will have 25 credits each.
4. The Student will be declared as failed if he/she does not pass in all creditswithin a total period of four years. After that such students will have to seekfresh admissions per admission rules prevailing at that time.
5. Academic calendar showing dates of commencement and end of teaching,internal assessment tests and term end examination will be prepared dulynotified before commencement of each semester every year.
6. Project course should not be greater than 10% of the total credits of thedegree course. Project course is equivalent to 10 credits.

UUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUThe students seeking admission to M.Sc. Computer Science Course is herebyinformed that they are supposed to adhere to the following rules.
1. A minimum of 75% attendance for lectures/practical is the pre-requisite forgrant of term.
2. There shall be turorial/practical/surprise test/home assignment/referencingof reserch papers/seminar/industrial visits as a part of internal assessmentin each semester. The students are supposed to attend all the tests. Thestudents should note that re-test will not be given to the student absent forthe tests.
3. The students opting for dissertation course shall follow the rules framed forthe same.
Eligibility :
The candidate should have a B.Sc. degree with Computer Science asprincipal subject.
Admission :
Admissions will be given as per the selection procedure/policies adoptedby the University of Pune. Reservation and relaxation will be as per thegovernment rules.
Award of Class :Grades will be awarded from grade point average (GPA) of the credits.
GPA Rules :
1. The formula for GPA will be based on Weighted Average. The final GPAwill not be printed unless a student passes courses equivalent to minimum100 credit hours (Science). Total credits hours means the sum of credithours of the courses which a student has passed.
2. A seven point grade system (guided by the Government of MaharashtraReslution No. NGO-1298/[4619]/UNI 4 dt. December 11, 1999 and Universityregulations] will be followed. The corresponding grade table is attachedherewith.
3. If the GPA is higher that the indicated upper limit in the third decimal digitthen the student be awarded higher final grade (e.g. a. student gettingGPA of 4,492 may be awarded ‘A’)

4. For Semester I, II, III examinations, only the grade points will be awardedfor each subject, Final GPA along with final grade will be awarded only atthe end of IV semester. There is also a provision for verification andrevaluation. In case of verification, the existing rules will be applicable.The revaluation, result will be adopted if there is a change of at least 10%marks and in the grade of the course.
5. After the declaration of result, for the improvement of Grade, the studentcan reappear for the examination of 30 credits worth theory courses.
6. Grade improvement programme will be implementated at the end of theacademic year. A student can opt for grade improvement programme onlyafter the declaration of final semester examination i.e. at the end of nextacademic year after passing M.Sc. (Computer Science) examination andwithin two years of completion of M.Sc. (Computer Science) A studentcanappear for grade improvement programme only once.

An Act to prohibit ragging in educational institutions in the State ofMaharashtra.
WHEREAS it is expedient to-enact a special law to prohibit ragging ineducational institutions in the State of Maharashtra. It is hereby enacted inthe Fiftieth Year of the Republic of India as follow “
1) Short title and commencement
* This Act may be called the Maharashtra Prohibition of RaggingAct, 1999
* It shall come into force on such date as the State Governmentmay, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
2) Definitions :
1. “educational institution” means and includes a college or otherinstitution by whatever name called, carrying on the activity orimparting education therein (either exclusively or among otheractivities): and includes an orphanage or a boarding home orhostel ora tutorial institution or any other premises attachedthereto.
2. “head of the educational institution” means the Vice-Chancellorof the University, dean of Medical Faculty Director of the Institutionor the Principal headmaster or the person responsible for themanagement of the educational institution.

causes or is likely to cause physical psychological harm or raiseapprehension or tear or shame or embarrassment to a studentin any educational institution and includes(i) teasing, abusing, threatening or playing practical jokes on, orcausing hurt to, such student, or(ii) asking a student to do any act or perform something whichsuch student will not, in the ordinary course, willingly, do.
3) Prohibition of raggingRagging within or outside of any educational institution is prohibited.
4) PenaltyWhoever directly or indirectly commits, participates in, abets orpropagates ragging within or outside any education institution shall,on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term which mayextend to two years and shall also reliable to a fine which may extendto ten thousand rupees.
5) Dismissal of Student.Any student convicted of an offence under section 4 shall be dismissedfrom the educational institution and such student shall not be admittedin any other educational institution for a period of five years from thedate of order of such dismissal.
6) Suspension of Student1. Whenever any student or, as the case may be, the parent of
guardian, or a teacher of an educational institution complains, inwriting of ragging to the head of the educational institution, thehead of that educational institution shall, without prejudice to theforegoing provisions, within seven days of the receipt of thecomplaint, enquire into the matter mentioned in the complaintand if, prima facie, it is found true, suspend the student who isaccused of the offence, and shall, immediately forward the thecomplaint to the police station having jurisdiction over the area inwhich the educational institution is situated, for flirter action.
2. Where, on enquiry by the head of the educational institution, it isproved that there is no substance, prima facie, in the complaintreceived under sub-section (1), he shall intimate the fact, in writingto the complainant

3. The decision of the head of the educational institution that the studenthas induiged in ragging under sub-section (1), shall be final.
7) Deemed abetmentIn the head of the educational institution fails or neglects to take action inthe manner specified in section 6 when a complaint of ragging is made,such person shall be deemed to have abetted the offence of ragging andshall, on conviction, be punished as provided for in section 4. 8) 1. The State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette,amend for carrying out all or any of the purposes of this Act.
2. Every rule made under this Act shall be laid, as soon as may be, afterit made, before each House of the State Legislature, while it is insection for total period of thirty days, which may be comprised in onesession or in two or more successive sessions, and if, before theexpiry of the session in which it is so laid or the session immediatelyfollowing, both houses agree in marking any modification in the rulesor both Houses agree that the rule should not be made, and notifysuch decision in the Official Gazette, the rule shall from the date ofpublication of such notification, have effect only in such modificationfrom or be of no effect, as the case may be, so however that any suchmodification or annulment shall be without prejudice to the validity ofanything previously done or omitted to be done under that rule.
