I am delighted to know that our college newsletter is being released. On this gracious occasion, I wish all the best to those who are responsible for bringing out this letter. I congratulate Mr.Sangu Ravindra, Assoc.Professor, for getting awarded PhD degree from JNTU, Kakinada. I wish the same commitment from the entire faculty to do research in an advanced level and bring laurels. I congratulate the students who were selected to tournaments and in placements. I wish

all the outgoing students to have a successful career and anticipate that they will sustain

the college name and reputation.

I am happy to note that the editorial board brings out newsletter for the period January

to June 2009. It is great to find a considerable number of winners and participants in co

curricular and extracurricular activities which certainly prove that our staff and students

are adequately equipped and possess necessary skill-sets to bring such laurels to the

institution. In QISCET, the year complemented with the blend of curricular and co-

curricular activities.

The major events of the year include Workshop on Advances in Thermal Engineering,

Campus Drives by Eminosoft, Sutherland, Exelacom, Zenopsys, Global Edge,

Awareness Programmes on Cash free Transactions, Faculty Development Programme

on Recent Trends in Data Analytics, Mega blood Donation camp etc.

I congratulate Mr.Sangu Ravindra, Assoc.Professor, for getting awarded PhD degree in

EEE from JNTUK. I appreciate the faculty members for publishing a good number of

research papers in National and International journals.

Secretary and Correspondent’s

Message

Principal’s Message

Harish Hande, a young engineer from Bangalore has disproved the myth that the poor

cannot afford the best technology, nor are they able to maintain and use it productively. Trained in Energy Engineering, with a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts, he could have chosen an easier career path, but he did not. While a graduate student in the U.S., a visit to the Dominican Republic inspired him with the idea that a decentralized approach in the spread of solar application--using small-scale, stand-alone installations instead of large, centralized thermal stations is the best for

reaching the poor, remote villages where the technology is the most needed.

Returning to India, he decided to live with villagers to understand their situation first-

hand. This convinced him that, in diffusing a technology, it is not just the product that matters but also the social realities that technology seeks to change. Putting this belief into practice, he established Solar Electric Light Company

(SELCO) India in Bangalore in 1995. SELCO's principal product offerings were solar PV lighting systems, water heating systems, and cooking stoves to meet the needs of the rural

poor. Hande says, "Until the poor become asset creators, we are not empowering them."

To date, SELCO has reached more than half a

million people by installing solar lights in 120,000 households, microenterprises, and

community facilities. Hande says: "India has a fantastic opportunity to solve two huge

problems--reduce poverty and combat climate change. This is India's chance to combine and address both issues in a holistic way." ,

Hande has won the Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy 2005 and Tech Museum Award 2005. Hande has also received the world’s leading Green Energy Award from

Prince Charles in 2005. In 2008, Hande was chosen by Business Today as one of the 21 young leaders for India’s 21st century. He was awarded with Asia's prestigious Ramon

Magsaysay Award for 2011, for “his pragmatic efforts to put solar power technology in the hands of the poor, through his social enterprise SELCO India”.
