RESEARCH AND PLANNING • Web 2.0 was a vital tool for me during this whole process. It was

necessary for me so I could research dystopian films, to stay in contact with my group members and also find out postmodern theories.

• During the research and planning stage of the course I used a variety of websites to increase my understanding of the dystopian genre and my theoretical understanding. For my initial research I used Wikipedia, this allowed me to research theorist that were postmodern and use their theories to make the narrative of my own film much more challenging.

• The Internet Movie Database (IMDb), which is an online film database, became very useful when I wanted to know more about a specific film. Such as The Hunger Games and The Road. It also had lists of films from specific genres, which came in handy when I needed to know other films from the dystopian genre. Furthermore when looking at these lists I allowed me to see what type of dystopia's where more popular than others, which allowed me to find a gap in the market.

RESEARCH AND PLANNING

• YouTube was a very useful site when it came to doing the trailer analysis, it had an acclamation of dystopian trailers. Moreover because YouTube is a 2.0 website it allowed my group and I to upload our own film trailer and became a very good website to market our film on as people could also leave comments.

• In addition to using YouTube I also used Box Office Mojo, this website included statistics about how much a film cost to produce and how much it made at the box office.

BLOG• Throughout this course I have been updating my blog, it

allowed me to write any ideas that I thought would be good for the film. Furthermore it allowed my group and I to stay connected. We could see what the other group members had put on their blog showing us what work they had done and what ideas they had for our film trailer. This was good because we could post a comment on another group members blog telling them what we thought of their ideas, this allowed our group to stay connected. This was especially useful at the beginning of the course when we had to decide what the narrative of our film and trailer would be.

PRESENTATION

• I used a number of presentation programmes for this task. I mainly used word and PowerPoint because they were easy to use and make my work informative, easy to read and appealing to look at.• To show that I could use other media applications

I used some presentation websites such as Prezi and Time Toast.

PRODUCTION

• When filming our trailer we used a range of equipment to make our trailer look more professional. By using a 550 DSLR we could create a better quality picture. We also used a 50mm lens to again create a better quality picture.• We used a steady cam rig and a tripod to make

our shots less shaky. When it came to doing an APOV or POV shot we also used the steady cam rig this was because it was easy to film with than the tripdo. In addition to this, when we wanted to do a shaky shot we used it so we could create a controlled shakiness to the shot.

POST-PRODUCTION

• When it came to edit our footage and to produce our film trailer we used an apple mac computer and Adobe Premiere. This programme allowed us to arrange our footage into the right order. To make our trailer feel more like a trailer Adobe Premiere also allowed us to add titles, music and sound effects. In addition to this Adobe Premiere allowed us to do some complicated editing techniques to make our trailer look more unique, such as cross-dissovlve. It also gave our trailer a lonely, depopulated feel.

• We gathered the fonts we used from a website called Dafonts.

• To produce our magazine cover and film poster we used Adobe Photoshop. We used a ‘Little White Lies’ template that we could modify to suit our film trailer.

SOUND

• We used a voice recording kit and a microphone to record the voiceover for our trailer. By doing this we could add non-diegetic dialogue to make our trailer more informative.

• To find a soundtrack for our trailer we looked on Incompetech which had a lot of good music that suited the feel of our trailer. This was reinforced when we got our audience feedback. We had two main soundtracks, the first was a slow, quite lonely song that set up the atmosphere for our trailer. The second song we used was a much faster passed song that introduced the action part of our trailer.

• The sound effects that we used in our trailer we got from the college’s soundeffect database. This meant that we could add in screams without having to do them ourselves.
