Presents: Fernanda Abreu Tuesday, October 12, 2021 1:00PM - 2:00PM | Online via Zoom KIMBERLY GREEN LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN CENTER Fernanda Abreu is widely considered one of the greatest pop singers in Brazilian music. She is a pioneer in the fusion of Brazilian rhythms such as samba and Carioca funk along with dance and electronic genres. In addition to being a singer, Fernanda Abreu is a composer, producer and dancer. Besides being a major influence on recent artists like Ludmilla, Luisa Sonza, and Anitta, Fernanda Abreu remains more active and relevant than ever with her new projects. Abreu began her career in 1982 when she joined the band Blitz, which had a meteoric rise to the top and became the most popular band in Brazil, dominating radio and TV with mega hits such as “Dois Passos do Paraíso”. Blitz also made historic appearances at the first edition of Rock in Rio in 1985. The singer launched her solo career in 1987 with SLA Radical Dance Disco Club album, now considered a true classic and groundbreaking album that introduced sampling, dance beats mixed with Brazilian and international grooves to a whole new audience.
