As we continue to celebrate these Sundays of Easter, we are called to reflect on the presence of the Risen Lord in our lives. We are invited to enter more deeply in the meaning of the Paschal Mystery. This past Friday, Bishop Francis Kane challenged our Confirmation class to become more active in the Church. He encouraged them to use

the gifts of the Holy Spirit and to live them out in their lives. The Gospel story of Emmaus today, reminds us that we are fed and nourished by the Lord from two tables: listening to His Word through the Scriptures and by partaking and receiving the Eucharist. How have the Scriptures been opened for you? How have you been fed by the Eucharist in your lives? How can we be a source of nourishment for others? We are called today to appreciate all that God has given us and to incorporate the message of the Resurrection and to truly be witnesses of the Gospel. We are asked to listen to the stories of the people we encounter and to strive to recognize Jesus in the people and events of our everyday lives.

I want to congratulate the teens involved in our Youth Ministry Program who were recognized last Sunday at the Vicariate V Youth Leadership Awards Banquet: Maeve Lorimer for Community Life, Anna Barry for Community Service and Social Justice, Michael McShane for Community Service and Social Justice, Samantha Clisham for Peer Ministry, Olivia Homel for Peer Ministry, Amelia Kennedy for Prayer and Worship and Marie Lynch for Prayer and Worship. I also want to recognize Ms. Tina O’Shea for her leadership and guidance as the Youth Minister Director who provides opportunities for our youth and teens to be actively involved in the Church.

If you are looking to do something this week, why not go and see the Hidden Talents production of the Lion King this Thursday and Friday at the Oak View Community Center. There are two performances each night at 6:00PM and 8:00PM. Tickets are $9.00 each. They can be purchased at the Rectory or after Mass.

I would ask you to pray for our 2nd grade students from School and Saturday School of Religion as they prepare to receive their 1st Communion next Saturday, May 6th at 11:30AM. They are anxious and ready. I want to thank Ms. Smierciak, their teachers, catechists and parents for helping them in their preparation.

Next Sunday, May 7th, the officers of the Altar & Rosary Society will crown Mary at the 9:30AM Mass. All are welcome to join the celebration

Have a good week.

God Bless,

Lord, open our eyes that we may see you in our brothers and sisters. Lord, open our ears that we may hear the cries of the hungry, the cold, the frightened, the oppressed. Lord, open our hearts that we may love each other as you love us. Renew in us your spirit. Lord, free us and make us one. Consider this short prayer from St. Teresa of Calcutta as you go about your daily ways. How will you treat Christ – through others – in your daily routine?

Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy

“Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the

Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32)

Our hearts should burn within us each time we find ourselves in the Presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, and still more when we receive Him in Holy Communion. Jesus won heaven for us by humility, patience and obedience. The way of the cross is the way to heaven. Come before the Blessed Sacrament and allow Him to open your eyes to this truth. Become a Committed Adorer. Call Marion at (708) 424-8433 for more information or sign up at the Adoration Chapel.

Queen of Martyrs 5th Grade Present “The Living Stations”

Mrs. Kirkland’s students did a wonderful job depicting Jesus’ path to Calvary. The students used words and actions to try and compare how Jesus handled his suffering with our reactions to difficulties in our daily lives. The students dressed in period clothing and reenacted the time that Jesus walked the way of the cross. The presentation was viewed by parents, faculty and staff, and Queen of Martyrs students. The reenactment reminded everyone of the sacrifices that Jesus made for each of us. We are grateful for the love that Jesus has for us as witnessed through this beautiful presentation!
