    THE TMS ROCK STARS

The Tippecanoe Middle School 7th grade social studies classes of Cindy Wildermuth and Geoff Enze were treated to a guest speaker who shared information about her home country of Japan. Haruno Asari who lives with her family in Troy has been in the United States for 2 years and will be here another 2 years before returning to Japan with her husband’s company. She gave the students a brief overview of Japanese history and current culture by quizzing the students and rewarding them with Japanese candy for correct answers. She then shared examples of Japanese culture through various foods she brought with her. She asked for volunteers to taste some of the items she brought. A couple of lucky students in each class got to taste fermented beans as well as two different kinds of Japanese omelets. The classes completed a unit on Japanese history and culture.
