Integrated Fiery Color Server INTRODUCTION
CONFIGURATION TRAINING GUIDE 8/09 1-3
Introduction to the Integrated Fiery Color Server
The Fiery is a high-performance color controller that adds computer connectivity and highly efficient color printing capability to digital color copiers. It is optimized for high-speed communications, processing, rasterization, and printing of continuous tone color and monochrome (black and white) pages. Users can print from networked Mac OS computers and from networked PCs running Windows. In addition, the Fiery USB-Type A ports allow printing directly from a USB device.
Features
As an integral part of the printing system, the Integrated Fiery Color Server enables users to:
Send images over AppleTalk, TCP/IP, and Novell networks, or through a USB device to print on a copier.
Spool print jobs and select a printing priority for each job. Users can control spooled print jobs sent to the Fiery with user software running on networked Mac OS computers and PCs.
Print files in color, grayscale, and black and white.
Use the copier as a high-resolution color scanner with Remote Scan utility.
Use 136 resident fonts (117 Adobe Type 1 PostScript fonts with Euro Currency support, and 19 TrueType fonts), plus two Adobe Multiple Master fonts used for font substitution when printing PDF files. WebTools or the Command WorkStation can be used to download additional fonts.
Use built-in ColorWise™ color management and NetWise™ networking features.
Specifications
The Integrated Fiery Color Server Hardware specifications include:
Celeron M440 Solo Intel 1.86GHz CPU
512 MB Memory (minimum)
80GB SATA hard disk drive (minimum)
Three USB-Type A ports for printing through a USB device
Supports AppleTalk and TCP/IP protocols simultaneously
Ethernet port for twisted pair (10BaseT/100BaseTX/1000BaseT) network connection

Network Connectivity
When the Fiery is connected to a network, it behaves as a networked printer. The Fiery supports the following network protocols (rules that enable computers on a network to communicate with each other):
AppleTalk, Bonjour
TCP/IP, which also includes the BOOTP, DHCP, FTP, HTTP, IMAP, IPP, IPv4, IPv6, LDAP, LPD, NBT, POP3, Port 9100, SMB, SMTP, SNMP, SNTP, SSL/TLS, 802.1x and IPSec protocols
These protocols can run concurrently on the same cable. Computers that use other protocols can print through a server that uses one of the supported protocols. The Fiery is autosensing, and handles all connections simultaneously. This information needs to be managed by a local administrator.
How the Fiery Network Controller Operates
To gain an understanding of how the Fiery Color Server Operates, consult the Integrated Fiery Color Server for the WC 7700 Series MFP Installation and Service Guide, Introduction.
Service Documentation
This training document is intended to provide general procedures. For specific detailed procedure, refer to your service documentation.

Service documentation
The following documents are available for Service documentation: Integrated Fiery Color Server for Xerox Color 550 Production Printer Installation and Service Guide Series for Xerox Color 550 Production Printer.
Customer documentation
Customer documentation (also known as “user documentation”) is designed primarily for users and administrators. It also has information that may be useful to service technicians; therefore, cross-references to the customer documentation are included in the Installation and Service Guide. Service technicians can obtain user documentation on the Fiery from the User Documentation CD. The documents are provided as Adobe Acrobat PDF (Portable Document Format) files, which are indexed and cross-referenced. In addition, some Fiery utilities (such as Command WorkStation) offer built-in Help.
Fiery Print Options
The Fiery’s efficient PostScript capabilities allow customers to use a variety of applications to create printed color or black-and-white pages of text and/or images. The Fiery operates over a network. Since the Fiery has the ability to print an image while processing the next image (RIP-While-Print), it is capable of printing documents at full copier speeds. Users can print documents directly from the applications in which they were created. In addition, the Fiery offers an efficient way to print files that have been saved in PostScript, EPS (Encapsulated PostScript), or PDF format. These files can be downloaded directly to the Fiery using Command WorkStation, a remote utility provided with the Fiery.
