In The News:
Here is a great story from one of the software companies that we have partnered with for our new Computer
Science Coop Program. It describes the excellent opportunities provided to our two Fleetwood Park Sec-
ondary students during their work experience.

Counsellor’s Corner:
Course selection is well underway for next year’s classes. Grade 8s and 9s will be finished by the end of January, along with half the grade 10s. The other half of the grade 10 class will be completing their course selections in the first week of February. Counsellors like to pay particular attention to our grade 11 students as they approach their graduation year, and will be taking individual time with every grade 11 student in the month of February to ensure appropriate courses are selected. It is an enormous job and we appreciate staff and student support and cooperation in getting it all done so efficiently.
Thanks!

“This Week at Fleetwood Park” - Principal’s Message: January 27th
– 31st
Good morning Dragons and welcome to the 2nd semester at Fleetwood Park Secondary!
Our 2nd semester has begun and students and staff have been busy getting to know each other over the first week. Establishing new routines, getting to know new teachers, students and support staff is very important for us all. Our 2nd semester timetable is finalized, all classes have been allocated a room, all new staffing positions have been filled, and all students have started learning their new curriculum. The transition into the new semester has gone as smoothly as possible. I would like to extend my thanks to everyone for your work on concluding the 1st semester and starting the 2nd!
I would like to welcome the following new staff to our school.
Ms. Farquhar – SS/Drama
Ms. Robea – Math
Ms. Kaur – Math/ Science
Ms. Shilpa – Math/Careers/PHE
Mr. Taylor – Cross-curricular
I would also like to welcome back Ms. Ikeda, LST, and Ms. Robertson, EA. We know that your time at Fleet-wood Park will be very rewarding.

At the very beginning of the semester, communication skills, team-building and introductions are key. Our PHE stu-dents started with some friendly Dodge Ball to help facilitate connections and fitness.
Our Social Studies students also enjoyed some active movement and games to get to know each other.

“Building Successful Futures”
On Monday afternoon our entire team gathered at our monthly Staff meeting to review 2nd
semester start-up items and future initiatives. It is so important to gather everyone together to communicate, share and cele-brate the life and business of our school community. This semester we will be hosting several student teachers from SFU and UBC. On Monday our new SFU student teachers were able to join us at our staff meeting. We welcome:
Ms. Kandola (Mathematics) with Ms. Sandhu
Ms. Shergill (English & Social Studies) with Ms. Anderson & Mr. Walshe
Ms. Muir (Humanities, Science) with Mr. Lo
All the best for a very successful practicum!
On Monday evening, I attended our Parent Advisory Council Meeting. This year the PAC has been updating their Constitution and Bylaws. This has been an important task and has provided rich dialogue and review. Great thanks to all members of our PAC for your work on this project. At our next meeting on February 24th there will be a special presentation. The Telus Wise workshop is a program for adults, covering topics like living and parenting in a digital society, as well as internet, smartphone and social media safety. Students are also welcome to attend. We hope to see many parents/guardians/students there!
Our course selection process continues this week with Grade 8 students entering their courses on Wednes-day, a Grade 11 Course Selection assembly on Thursday, and Grade 9 course entry on Friday. Again, all students are strongly encouraged to ensure your MyEdBC account is working properly. You will need to ac-cess your account in order to enter your course requests for next year! Please log into your account prior to your course entry lab visit. If you cannot access your account, please see the office for assistance.

“Building Successful Futures”
On Thursday afternoon, we met with our Associate School administration colleagues to discuss common themes and partnerships across our schools. This is always a very productive dialogue and great support for all our school communities. The Fleetwood community is thriving with growth, challenges and success-es. Our continual review of how our family of schools can support our community is very important. Great thanks to Principal Smith for hosting us at William Watson Elementary.
Students/parents are reminded that Semester #1 Final Report cards will be available online tomorrow, Fri-day, January 31st through the MyEdBC portal. Please log in and download your report cards.
I hope your first week of this “new beginning” has been positive and interesting. This semester we will work and learn together. We will value lifelong learning, friendliness, involvement and school spirit. We will en-courage creativity, development of life skills, personal and social responsibility, positive attitude, self-esteem and self-confidence. We are committed to academic excellence! Have an excellent semester Dragons!
Have a happy Friday and a wonderful weekend. See you on Monday.
Ken
