Ahead of WCB within the Warm Sector

These conceptual models will be virtually identical to those associated with the three locations north of the warm front with the exceptions that:

• There will be and cannot be any evidence of the cold conveyor belt

• The veering and backing with height signatures will be less pronounced

• The reduced extent of warm sector precipitation will be an issue

• Gulls are found in the warm sector, more so than eagles… Click for the Conceptual Model and Explanation

Within the WCB:•East of radar veering, weak warm advection – veering winds possible•West of radar backing, cold advection – backing winds possible

The Headless Gull CM

Both wings are fully extended to catch the lift of the WCB. This is a straight line uniform wind field but could be a slightly divergent signature.

Note that headless gulls can’t scream…The advections in the warm sector do not warrant this being called an eagle pattern.

•A and B and the black lines joining the inflexion points represent the top of the veering partly due to the Eckman spiral and perhaps some residual warm air advection. Note the A line is “sharper “ looking than B.•C to D represents a low level jet max. •Notice that outward from A and B and the inflexions the lines of constant radial velocity are nearly parallel( except for some slight backing from B to G) to the radials indicating constant wind direction. •We see a higher level jet max from E to F.

This must be and remain as Slide 31.

• The links to the three sections of the airflows that comprise each of the conveyor belts are located at Slide 1,11 and 21.

• Slide 11 is always the central, col limited circulation.

• This leaves 10 PowerPoint slides for the development of the training material which should be more than adequate.
