so many past members come along and celebrate with us. It was also pleasing to see our current members have a look at the history of the club and what it has gone through to where it is today. I received an email from John Donovan who was our president in 1980 and I share it with you further on in the newsletter. He was the gentleman who spoke on the day. There was also a blog post (It’s a Horsey Life) written by Ian Baldwin. If you have not had a look at it google it and have a read.

Planning for next year has already begun and our contribution to the Yeringberg working bee will occur again in February/March. Thus we will need volunteers to attend that working bee. Dates to be announced in the future.

At this rally at the end of the day we are turning off all fridges in the rooms and we need to leave the place spotless. Please make sure that you take all belongings home. It seems to be that something gets left behind at the end of each rally, and never appear to find their owner.

PCAV has outlined that there will be a number of rule changes for 2015 and they will be out around the 1st January. Please make sure that you keep up to date by checking in at the PCAV website early in the new year. They will have some consequences for people that are competing.

I wish you and your families a very Merry and Safe Christmas.

M e r r y C h r i s t M a s e v e r y b o dy, and welcome to our Christmas break up rally for 2014.

I am writing this early Sunday morning after presentation night. A huge thank you to Kate Taylor for her setting up of presentation night, it was truly spectacular. I know that she spent a number of hours during the day on Saturday setting it up with a few helpers in the afternoon. Also thank you to the people who helped pack it up after the event, so that Monash could have their Christmas rally the next day. Congratulations to all of our winners of awards, they were well deserved! The only disappointing part of the night was that we only had one non owner and he was there because his older sister rides. There are awards to be presented to the non owners group and it is sad that they are not there to receive their trophies/medals like every other group.

For all members that have not been at a Christmas rally it is a little bit different in that there are a host of ribbons to be won by all participating members throughout the day, ending with the annual dress up component with rider and horse. (I trust that you all have thought of something to do). We also have our lunch as a group with all parties supplying either bread, salad, chicken or a dessert. Thank you to the people who wrote down what they intend to bring. Could all members please contribute to our lunch on the day. It would be good if you could bring your own paper/plastic plates and cutlery as it will make cleaning up easier for all. Again, NO NUTS please.

Our November rally whilst it started very wet, ended up being very successful with our celebration in the afternoon. It was great to see

M e r r y C h r i s t M a s e v e r yo n e ,The festive season has well and truly kicked off and we are looking forward to celebrating with you all at our Christmas Break Up Rally. So wash your horses, plait them up, clean your tack, get your sewing machine out because I expect to see some of the best turned out horses and awesome costumes at this years rally. Every year the stakes get higher and higher for the fancy dress competition, and I have faith that this year will be the same. Don’t forget we will also have our annual eliminator showjumping competition this year the course is designed by Kirra Hobbs. We also have a testing handy mount designed by Jade Coghlan. Well Done Girls!

A huge congratulations to Scarlett Howard, Jade Coghlan, Millie Fitzpatrick and Alex Benson who represented our club at the Zone Showjumping and Dressage Qualifying Day at the end of November. From accounts you all did a stand out job with Alex Benson listed as the reserve for the grade 2 Dressage. Awesome job and thank you for representing NUNA!!!!

CALLING ALL GAMES RIDERS AND FLAT RIDERS – yes you! Training will commence early in the year as the Games and Flat day will be held in April so we need to get our teams together and fine tune your skills. Emily Gerdes will be collecting names at the December rally to get interest from those that want to make up a team. Training days will be confirmed soon via email so keep your eyes peeled.

On presentation night we were transported to a Nunawading Wonderland. Thank you Kate for putting so much thought and effort into making the club rooms look spectacular for our special night. Well done the all of those who competed at Zone Qualifying days and those who went onto compete at State Events and all those who received an award. Everyone has done an amazing job this year and represented our club so well. Thank you for a wonderful year.

land. On these lands including the Old Club Grounds, the Club was required to provide access for people to walk through these areas and to legally safeguard the Club and its Committee in case on an accident to persons walking across these grounds. It was many years later that any other Pony Clubs and PCAV decided to incorporate.

Our family history at the Club included Margaret who was involved at the Club from 1975 until when it went to Drummies Bridge Reserve. Margaret Jones(nee Donovan ) is also a Life Member and she has been proud to bring her three daughters to events at the Club grounds as members of Upper Beaconsfield Pony Club. Her sister, Anne, also had over 10 years of enjoyment at the Club. Both daughters were proud on many occasions to represent the Club at Zone Events. One of our girls’ horses was Blackie (Black Magic) acquired in 1978 as a six year old and he went with Margaret to her home at Upper Beaconsfield when she married and where he passed away in 2008 at the ripe old age of 36 years.

The Club has done wonders at Drummies Bridge and do understand the uncomfortable time the Club experienced at the Grounds in the early years. It was good to see your future plans and wish you all the best for these to be imploymented.

It was great to hear that all is well at present, but do know many within PCAV Inc would like Nunawading to change Zones.

Thanks for a wonderful day.

h i K e r r i e ,I wish to sincerely thank you and Kate for my invitation to attend 40th

Anniversary celebrations.Over the years I have been to Events held by the Club plus Annual

Meetings. It was good to see the history and so many photos both from the old Grounds and since to where you have been for the last 20 years. The way you displayed the history of the Club was first class and special thanks to who made this possible. It did bring back memories. These included the Zone Show jumping, the Club’s Riding for Disabled which was a first for any Pony Club. The RDA instruction really put the Club on the map and gained much support from the non riding public. Nunawading also started a non owners riding club in which any new member attended before been given membership to ride at rallies.

Our family has a long connection with the Club.Daughter Margaret attended her first event at Nunawading in

December 1975 when a Mini One Day event was held at Heatherdale Reserve, Heatherdale. On this occasion I walked the pony Margaret was to ride from near Middleborough Rd down Canterbury Rd to the Reserve and back again at the conclusion of the day.

In 1976 the Club obtained land to lease for use as Club Grounds from Vic Roads at the end Fulton Rd East. The land was not fenced and had many areas of blackberries. This is where I became involved as Grounds Manager arranging for fencing, clearing the blackberries etc. So up until 1988 I was always the Grounds Manager, plus had terms of being President.

Nunawading Horse and Pony Club was the second Sporting Club in Victoria to become Inc when this occurred in late 1970’s. This was necessity, because NHPC had the land leases for agistment of club members from Indra Rd to Morack Rd along the Old Healesville Freeway
