The War I Finally Won by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
Ada’s first story, The War That Saved My Life, won a Newbery
Honor and the Schneider Family
Book Award. This novel continues
her powerful, uplifting journey
set during World War II.
When Ada’s clubfoot is surgically
fixed at last, she knows for
certain that she’s not what her
mother said she was: damaged,
crippled mentally as well as
physically. Who is Ada now? How
can she keep fighting? And who
will she struggle to save?

More Than Common Core Eye of the Storm: NASA, Drones, and the Race to
Crack the Hurricane Code by Amy E. Cherrix
Ten million Americans live in hurricane danger zones, but how
do we know if or when to evacuate? We must predict both
when a storm will strike and how strong it will be. A daring
NASA earth science mission may have finally found a way to
crack this hurricane code. Part of the amazing Scientists in
the Field series. Beauty and the Beak: How Science, Technology, and
a 3D-Printed Beak Rescued a Bald Eagle by Deborah
Lee Rose & Jane Veltkamp
After her beak was partially shot off and she couldn’t eat or
drink properly, the fully grown eagle could no longer survive in
the wild. In her first rescue center, her wounds were treated
and she was given a name, Beauty. Transferred to a raptor
center in Idaho, she came to the attention of an engineer who
designed and printed a 3D prosthetic to replace the missing
part of her upper beak.
