    What to expect in this presentation

    This presentation offers a branding solution for Rebel Communications.

    An outline of the requirements of the brief and the thought process

    behind the brand development follows.

    The brand will then be presented in a variety of forms to show its diversity,

    followed by examples of how it could be implemented.

    The brief

    Our brief was to create a new brand identity for Rebel Communications.

    The new brand was to reect the core purpose of the business;

    to deliver and implement efcient, cost-effective marketing

    strategies and prospective creative solutions.

    Rebel Communications is a small marketing consultancy creating tailoredsolutions for small to medium businesses, B2B companies, service-based

    organisations and larger marketing & graphics companies looking to outsource.

    The brand is to be unique, not overly corporate or feminine and practical

    for reproduction at different scales. Following is an overview of the process

    behind the brand solution that we believe achieves these objectives.

    The solution

    We began the process by looking at the environment the business operates in.

    The marketing industry in general adopt quite slick corporate identities

    using a warm palette consisting of red, orange and black. Rebel Communications

    is a sole proprietor with vast experience offering specialist skills.

    A rebel is one who resists or dees a generally accepted convention.We believe Rebel Communications offers the industry a breath of fresh air

    alternative to the often formula based larger marketing companies.

    Core principles reect offering clients direct, concise marketing plans tailored

    specically to their business needs - no oversell.

    Creative solutions are developed to best achieve results and then marketing

    communication materials are delivered as a complete package.

    We feel our solution successfully combines these elements as listed above.

    The brand is strong and modern in style and clearly represents the nature o the business. The icon

    conveys the message to potential clients that Rebel Communications will boldly communicate their

    business message directly to their target audience. It allows the name Rebel Communications to stand

    out clearly to impress it in peoples minds. The ollowing page outlines the rationale behind the brand.

    As can be seen by the descriptions on this page, each part o the brand has a relationship to each other.

    When all the parts are bought together they create a strong, easy-to-identiy brand.

    Symbol

    The symbol is a magpie which as well as being iconic is symbolic

    of communication and creative expression.

    Magpies are intelligent, perceptive, articulate, expressive, bold

    and inquisitive. They are strong, robust, striking and stand out in

    their environment.

    They are also social creatures and secure their territory

    (market share) and guard it - all positive attributes for a

    communications business.

    Colours

    Three complimentary colours have been chosen for the brand as we feel

    they best dene the business in nature and principle.

    The deep blue/green has been specically chosen symbolising depth, inspiration,

    creativity, knowledge, expression, integrity and future vision. Black chosen for its

    strength and contrast reecting the stability of the business. The silver/pewter

    is cool and indicative of premium quality and high standards.

    Type

    The main type face has been chosen specically for this brand.It is bold, striking and strong with a masculine edge and a touch

    of understated elegance. The letters not quite joined indicate a

    journey still to be completed referring to both the business,

    its purpose and its relationship with its clients.

    The combination of curves and straight lines give a sense ofbalance and reects both the solid experience/ability base of

    the business while lending an approachable feel to the brand.

    An informal touch is added by the predominant use of

    lowercase lettering.

    Its important that a brand be designed to maintain its consistency when reproduced in single colour and

    greyscale eg. or newspaper or single-colour print applications. It also needs to work strongly when used

    against dark coloured backgrounds.

    Its important that a brand be designed to work in dierent applications.

    We have designed a horizontal logo or use in wide but not high ormats ONLY where the master logo

    would appear too small.

    The positioning line has been created as a 3 element graphic with icons relating to the brand.

    Step 1 - Direct is the ideas, plan and commencement (nest)

    Step 2 - Develop is the building and completion (nest) marketing plan

    Step 3 - Deliver is the nal stage and handover (egg to hatch) business to grow

    positioning line

    To extend the brand secondary graphic elements have been created. Based on the magpie in the brand

    there is a fying bird which can be animated or web/media use. Also the 3 element nest icon or large

    watermark style use (see stationery application to ollow).
