Title: EPA RPM

Name of Site/Field Event: Phase I A Surface Water Sampling

Date of Proposed Modification: 21April2015

Modified SAP Section(s): Worksheet #14, Table 14-1, Figure 14-14, and other sections as required for total sample counts (Table 18-1 and Table 20-1 ).

Describe the Modification: US Magnesium/ERM is to promptly collect samples of surface water currently present in the former wastewater diversion ditch and the (newly-identified) Star Pond overflow ditch within PRl-5, and also the Skull Valley Diversion ditch pursuant to the attached Figure 14-14 (modified from the Phase IA SAP) and consistent with the requirements of the Phase IA SAP. As with the Ph IA surface water samples remaining to be collected, these samples are to be collected as soon as possible while water is present. The additional surface water sample collection locations are listed in the following table consistent with Table 14-1 of the Phase I A SAP:

To collect a sample of the water in the former

Surface wastewater diversion ditch to identify any PRl5-017

Water 5 14-14 4530990 354959 chemistry unique to the ditch matrix. Sample

to be collected at the northern extent of standing water in the ditch.

To collect a sample of the water in the Star Pond overflow ditch to identify any chemistry unique to the ditch matrix. Sample to be

PRl5-018 Surface

5 14-14 4530710 355136 collected at or just east of the southern "T"

Water terminus of the Star Pond overflow ditch if there is water present, otherwise the nearest point at or from the southern end of the ditch where water is present.

To collect a sample of the water in the Skull Valley Diversion ditch/canal where wastewater from PRl-5 and/or ditch flows

PRI5-019 Surface

5 14-14 4530760 355491 appears to have seeped into the ditch/canal to

Water evaluate potential impact to Skull Valley Diversion flows. Sample to be collected at the downstream (east) end of the predominant wastewater seep.

Section D: Sampling and Analysis Revision 0

August 2013

Rationale

To collect a sample of the water in the Skull Valley Diversion ditch downstream of the wastewater seepage to evaluate potential impact to Skull Valley Diversion. Sample to be collected in the southeast comer of PR!-7 immediately upstream (west) of the Skull Creek road-crossing culvert.

To collect a sample of the water in the Skull Valley Diversion ditch downstream of the wastewater seepage to evaluate potential impact to Skull Valley Diversion. Sample to be collected from immediately upstream (south) of the footbridge crossing located east of the northeast comer of PR!-7.

1 - The PRI Area li sted is where the sample is located; all surface water samples are part of PRI Area 17, Site-Wide Water. 2 - Northings and Eastings are based on UTM Zone I 2N, NAD83, meters. Sample location coordinates are considered draft; final

coordinates will be provided following sample collection.

Justification or Reason for the Modification: During the course of ERM site investigations for PRI-2 (Landfill) under the Ph I A SAP (Sept. 2013), and during further investigation scoping/planning for Ph l A-B Inner PRI investigations in PRI-5, the EPA and ERM have identified previously un-sampled surface water conveyance ditches. During a joint EPA-ERM site-review of these ditches on April 16, 2015, EPA observed extensive indications and presence of wastewater seepage into the Skull Valley Diversion ditch/canal (see Figures 1 and 2).

This modification will obtain samples to identify CO PCs that may be present within the PRI-5 ditches and the Skull Valley Diversion ditch/canal.
