Identity RationaleThe design expresses layering and multi-faceted experiences. There are multiple layers to the experience that the Regional Centre for Culture will deliver for regional Victoria. Many different people and communities will experience and engage with the program. The multiple layers of the organic circle combine these ideas and represent it. The layering of the logo gives the symbol an iconic visual appeal.

The movement throughout the symbol is designed to evoke a sense of travelling. The lines of the logo are reminiscent of the gradient contours on a geographical map.The journey of the eye around the logo is symbolic of the travel throughout Victoria. It also alludes to the journey the Regional Centre for Culture will be undertaking.

It carries with it an iconic shape and is compact. The base shape is an organic circle representing completion and giving a natural essence. This creates a peaceful and simplified idea of enrichment.

Identity ColoursThe Regional Centre for Culture preferred colour palette is made up of 2 distinct monotone colours with black and white as the core colour palette. This page provides a guide for reproduction of theses colours across print and screen applications. If colour is to be used, see preferred colourway on Page 8. Colour is to be used purposefully to create impact. The use of colour must work harmoniously with the yearly program identity. Orange is the primary colourway as it has a large spectrum of earthy tones while having the required visual impact.

Why Black and White? It is important that the RCC identity allows for flexibility when dealing with the yearly program identities. The black and white provides an overarching scheme that is powerful yet simple to implement alongside other identities.

Colour reproduction• CMYK refers to the four process colours (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) used in conventional offset printing. (Combinations of these colours in varying percentages create a large spectrum of other colours.)• RGB refers to red, green and blue. Computer monitors (and other screens) represent colours as combinations of red, green and blue.• Percentages (or tints) of the colours specified here may also be used, particularly in situations where variety is required (e.g. page layouts).• Should you choose to print this document on a colour printer, it is important to match the desired colours to the correct settings.

Colour TreatmentThe mono versions of the logomark are the prefered mark across all platforms and touchpoints. Keeping this level of consistency allows for the strong graphic nature of the mark to have the greatest impact.. The black and white versions are versatile yet sophisticated.

Identity ColourwayThe colourway draws on ‘earthy’ tones and influences while providing a range of colour options to keep the branding flexible when working with other programs. Versatile primary ‘earthy’ colours ranging from bright and powerful to subtle and subdued. The Secondary colours should be used to highlight the RCC brand elements where appropriate and to act as accent colours.

Clear SpaceWhen surrounded by other objects (e.g. text, images, other logos) it is important that the Regional Centre for Culture logo is given enough space to breathe. The guide to the left indicates a basic formula for calculating the minimum ‘clearspace’ using the width of the inner element from the logomark. This guide can be used across all logo lockups (No elements should enter this defined area).
