PROJECT OBJECTIVESTo develop a regional SDI which:

- supports interregional cooperation- promotes regional development and knowledge on SDI- presents attractiveness of the local territory- promotes integration of local regions into European society

Develop SDI thematics - provide comprehensive information about the particular regions of Latvia to find out

what does the region think about itself, what feelings and atmosphere is present- provide key indicators which characterises level of development and potential of the

territory

Easy to find and use of geographical information- regional data and metadata- other interesting WMS services and data from interesting territorries

Exchange good practices

RESULTS OF THE PROJECT• Developed GIS portal (www.grisi.lv) for the interested parties to clearly and

efficiently understand the regional interest and evaluate its potential to choose a coopereation partner

• Access to spatial data of regions of Latvia, search, publish, and use other comprehensive portal functions

• Realised student exchange (Riga Technical University and IUT Paul Sabatier )

• In cooperation of the universities developed website to disseminate the economic information of the department of Gers (http://ids.gers.cci.fr)

• Exchange of good practices and REGIS evaluation by Abruzzo Region

SPECIFIC RESULTS• Developed and adapted special and intuitive user interface which provides interested users

with possibility to search, view, download, etc.available spatial data, metadata and services

• Spatial data in scale 1:400 000 are downloadable for any interested party

• Users can publish and exchange spatial information

• REGIS SDI translated in Latvian (available in both English and Latvian)

• Project data and technical specifications are developed to share the best practice example

• Within REGIS 16 new WMS were created - Basic data layers, scale 1:200 000 - Statistical information - Qualitative information

• Developed continuous relationships with IUT Paul Sabatier

• Best practice examples developed by Abruzzo Region

Added value and the road ahead• Development of awareness and knowledge on SDI in regions – good reference of

the SDI prototype in Latvia

• Best practice of REGIS development is shared with Latvian State institutions responsible for SDI developments where it is planned that project partners will cooperate in order to initiate SDI development projects in Latvia

• Latvian Statistical Institute will adapt the practice and methodology of statistical and qualitative research data visualisation and dissemination throug the REGIS SDI

• It is planned that Bauska and Daugavpils regions will continue to cooperate with REGIS partners to realise spatial data publication and updating already in 2008

• Agreement with Riga Technical University to maintain the REGIS SDI for the next 2 years

• Agreement on further student exchange from IUT Paul Sabatier for a work placement period in 2008 to Latvia
