Did you know there is lots of important security information and links on the NHW web page of the Orston Parish website? Please have a look!
Amazon Prime Phone Scam – Beware! SCAM ARTISTS have devised a malicious plan to get you to hand over bank details saying you’ve been subscribed to Amazon ‘Prime’ without your knowledge. I am sure many of you have received this telephone scam.
The scam starts with an unexpected phone call message that claims you've just been charged for an Amazon Prime subscription. You are told the payments can be cancelled if you press 1. Pressing 1 connects you to a premium rate number costing you money. The fraudster answering purports to be a technology expert and attempts to gain access to your computer and bank details.
Amazon confirms they will never call a customer for payments outside of their website. Also, the public have to subscribe to Amazon ‘Prime’ themselves.
If you receive a suspicious phone call claiming to be from Amazon please do not share any personal information, and disconnect immediately.
Never give out information to cold callers - no matter who they say they're from
If you've already been the victim of fraudulent activity such as this, you should report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040
PLEASE NOTE It’s very important to report crimes as otherwise rural communities may not be given the required level of resourcing they deserve.
