Thomas ColeServed in France, Belgium & Holland.

Taken prisoner in ‘44, 10 miles from Ni-jmegan. Eventually delivered to Poland where he remained a POW until liber-ated by the Russian army. Received 4 medals and was discharged in 1945.

Daniel Ted CheerVolunteered at age 18 in 1943

with the Sea Forth Highlanders. He served in France, Germany, Italy and

Holland. He was killed in action in 1944.

Pascal CortezJoined the Canadian Army at

age 27 in 1942 and was discharged in 1945.

Chuck BillyJoined the army at age 17 in 1943.He trained at Camp Borden, Ontarioas a Machine Gunner. Chuck was onEmbarkation leave when V.E. Day

was declared May 7, 1945.

James DanielsWW I Vet.

Joined the Army when he was only 15 years old and was not honest

about his age.

Esquimalt with the BombDisposal Unit and aboard the

frigate, HMCA Kokanee convoyingbetween NFLD and Ireland.

Harvey GonzalesJoined US Army at age 18 in 1940.

Served with the 101st Airborne Divi-sion in England, France, Italy and Bel-gium. Harvey started out as a Medic,

then retrained as a Paratrooper in England. He participated in the Battle

of the Bulge. Discharged in 1947.

Isabelle Garcia PhillipsWWII Vet. Canadian Army

Domingo GonzalesWWII Vet. Canadian Army 1st

Larry JackVolunteered in ’39, age 29. Served with the Westminster Regiment in England, France, Belgium, Holland,

Germany, North Africa & Italy. Received 6 medals. Served with the 5th Canadian Division, under the 8th

British Army.

Edward “Jock” JamesJoined the Canadian Army at age

18 in 1944. He took basic training in Saskatchewan, then switched

over to the Medical Corps. Jock was discharged in 1946.

On Wednesday, November 11th, join the North Vancouver Museum and Archives and Waterfront

Productions in remembering the lives of those on the home front during World War II.

At that time, North Vancouver’s shipyards worked round the clock to produce maintenance ships to take men and supplies to Europe. This Remembrance Day, all

are invited to commemorate Canada’s war veterans by joining Shipyard Sal (Canada’s answer to Rosie the Riveter) for a FREE walking tour of North Vancouver’s historic waterfront. Hear stories of life on the home front, and learn what it was like for the men and women who worked at the shipyards in North Vancouver.

The tour departs at 1:00 pm from the PGE Railway Station at the foot of Lonsdale in North Vancouver. Tour length is approximately 45 minutes and nopre-registration is required.

Platoon, C Coy Petawawa Regiment. He was in transit on the Atlantic

Ocean when the war was declared over.

in 1941 to serve with the Canadian Women’s Corps. She trained in

Vermillion, Alberta. She was stationed in Victoria until 1945.

Joined in April 1945 at 24 years of age.

Jack KellyWW II Vet (Kelly Boys)

Sammy LewisServed in France, Germany, Italy and

Holland. He was active in the “D” Day Invasion and was awarded 5

medals. Wounded in ’44. Pretended to be dead while Nazi’s ripped off

his “Dog” tags and went through his pockets. Crawled back to Allied lines,

his only ID was his Cdn. uniform.

Albert J. KellyThe uncle of John F. McMahon wentoverseas in 1917 with the Princess

Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. He wonhis Captaincy, was mentioned in theDepatches and awarded the MilitaryCross for bravery at the Battle of theScarpe. In Sept. 1918 at Tilloy, he wasawarded a Bar to the M.C for a veryvaluable personal reconnaissance

during a heavy engagement.

Stationed in West Berlin

Alfred James McDonaldOctober 24, 1925 - January 2, 209

Dad proudly enlisted March 2, 1944.He served overseas in the C.INF.Cand RCASC in Italy, Belgium, France,Germany and England, during WorldWar II, mustering out July 5, 1946.

Thank you Dad.

Anchil “Ducky” MackVolunteered at age 40 on

Dec. 6, 1941. He was trained in small arms and demolitions, but

served with the Canadian Forestry Corps in Glasgow. The C.F.C.

produced railway ties.

He served in Canada, The United Kingdom and Europe. He was

discharged in Vancouver in 1946.

John F. McMahonBorn in Edmonton, joined the RCAFin 1937 in Alberta and served as abomber pilot in World War II. In thespring of 1944, after training, he wentto England where he was attachedto Tholthorpe Airbase in Yorkshire. Itwas here that he made a number of

sorties to Germany in 1945.

Thomas Nahanee AlmojuelaNow serving with the US Embassy in Monte Visio, Uruguay. A ’66 grad of

the US Military Academy. Senior Army Aviator is 22 year veteran. Awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying

Cross, Bronze Star and other citations.

Edward NahaneePVT. 1st Class, 334th Infantry.

Volunteered ’42 at 20, served with the American 9th Army in Europe. Received Bronze Star in ’44, Silver

Star and the Purple Heart. Fought in Battle of the Bulge, killed in action in

Holland, February 28, 1945.

Milton MirandaVolunteered at age 18 in 1941. He

served with the Sea Forth Highland-ers in Italy and France. Milton drove a supply truck in the convoys and was also an ambulance driver. He

was wounded when his truck went over a land mine.

James P. NahaneeServed in England, France, Belgium

& Holland. Medals awarded: Cdn Voluntary Service Medal, Civil-

ian Medal, Cdn Centennial Medal (’67), Outstanding Service Medal in

organisation work among the Native Indian Communities in BC.

Donald MoodyVolunteered in ’42 age 22 with the Algonquin Regiment in England,

Belgium, France and Germany. Was stretcher bearer in Medical Corps

when wounded & his buddies killed. Later recalled a dream his friends were calling him to go with them.

Robert NahaneeEnlisted at 17. Assigned to Germany with NATO Forces. Transferred in ’67 to Edmonton, then to Cyprus in ’68 for 6 months. Stationed in Calgary

from ’68-’74. Back to Cyprus in ’71. Trained on navy ships. Disharged in

’74. Received the Cyprus Medal.

Stadacona military hosp., Halifax. Served in the military for 2 years.

George NewmanVolunteered at age 17 in 1914. He became a Machine Gunner. Served in France & Germany for four years.

Robert PaullJoined the US Army in 1987.

Undertook basic training at FortKnox, Texas. Served in Scheinsurt,

Germany and Fort Hood, Texas, SaudiArabia (six months during DesertStorm). Discharged in 1991.

F. R. (Ted) PaxtonBorn 1918, Regina, Saskatchewan.Served with distinction with theRoyal Canadian Navy 1939-46

in Atlantic and Pacific.'Still going strong at 90'

Peter RiversVolunteered at age 33 in 1943 with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He

arrived in Liverpool on Jan. 17, 1945, on the SS Mauritania. In the early

morning hours he heard the bombing of V-2 rockets in the distance. Peter served in England for 20 months.

434 "Bluenose" Squadron R.C.A.F.Hired by the King of England in 1941to fly airplanes, first as an instructor,

then overseas until wars end.

Donald R. SouterHe joined the RCAF at eighteen and

trained to become a pilot. He was sentoverseas in 1943 for further training andbecame a Lancaster Captain and flewa tour of operations. He was awarded aD.F.C. (Distinguished Flying Cross) andlater had a career of 20 years in theRCAF flying in Europe & Canada.

James ThomasEnlisted with US Marine Corps in

1986. Stationed in Camp Lejeune N. Carolina, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine

Div. where he was a TOW Gunner. 3 months in Panama. Medals – Good Conduct & Rifle Expert. Honourable

discharge in September 1990.

Lorne ThomasWWII Vet. Canadian Army

William R. “Sam” ThomasServed with Sherbrooke Fusiliers, 27th Ar-mored Div. in France, Holland & Germany. Received the Croix de Guerre w/ Crimson

Star in ’47. “For exceptional service rendered during the war for the liberation

of France.” The medal was the highest military award for Gallantry in Action.

Don UrquhartDon joined the PPCLI at the tenderage of 16 and spent 22 years asan elite sniper serving in Korea andGermany. Don left the army in 1965with many medals to show for his

outstanding military career.

Pat WillardJoined the US Marine Corp in 1989.

Willard did his basic training at Camp Pendleton, Ca. He served at

29 Palms, Ca. In 1991 he served 88 days in the 1st Gulf War and was

discharged in March of 1993.

Thomas WilliamsVolunteered in ’42, at 20 w/ the Royal

Highland Regiment of Canada in England, France, Holland and Italy.

Wounded carrying a message across front lines. Slept for 3 days, awoke with scars on hip where doctors re-moved shrapnel. Received 7 medals.
