CNE ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT
HELD ON 3RD
MARCH. 2014
The CNE organized by Department Of Community Health Nursing,
Sumandeep Nursing College, Sumandeep Vidyapeeth was on the topic
“DISASTER MANAGEMENT “it was held on the 3rd
of March 2014 at the
Seminar hall, Sumandeep Nursing College.
Chairperson of the programme was Mr. Ravindra H.N, Principal
Sumandeep Nursing College, & the Organizing Secretary was Mr. Swamy
PGN, Assisstant Professor, Department Of Community Health Nursing.
The programme started with a welcome speech by Ms Bhumika
Chaudhari, 2nd
year Msc Nursing student; she extended a warm welcome to the
dignitaries, the teaching faculties and the participants. It was followed by the
auspicious ritual of lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. The programme was
presided by a special guest Dr Niraj Pandit, professor community medicine,
SBKSMCRC. He was invited to unfold the theme and give a brief overview
about the topic. Dr. Niraj Pandit who also is an active member of the disaster
management team of Vadodara district shared his valuable knowledge in
explaining the importance of disaster management and the role of the health
care personnel especially the nurses at every level.
After the unfolding of the theme the introductory part of the session was
presented by Ms Ruhi Varghese, Lecturer, Department of Community Health
Nursing, Sumandeep College Of Nursing. She explained in detail about the
various concepts of disaster management, types of disaster and its phases.
The second topic was presented by Ms. Dhara Patel 2nd
year M.sc nursing
student on Disaster Impact, Rescue and First Aid. She clarified various concepts
by showing interesting pictures and eye catching videos.

The following topic disaster preparedness was taken by Mr. Swamy
PGN. In which he elaborated about the preparedness measures to be followed
by the country to encounter any disaster events.
Ms Bhumika Chaudhary, 2nd
year Msc student presented her part on the
crème topic disaster mitigation and its steps. The next session was about disaster
preparedness during earthquake and floods were taken by 2nd
year M.sc student
Vaibhav Jani where he highlighted about the interventions before, during and
after the events of earthquake and flood.
Mr. Vivek Nehra made everyone clear with the concept disaster
rehabilitation which included subtopics like reconstruction, challenges, aims,
planning, short term and long term rehabilitation.
Our respected principal sir Mr. Ravindra HN presented a very interesting
topic Man Made Disaster by displaying the history of occurances which the
globe records as the man made disaster and the mal effects it had cast on the
people of the world.
The last presentation was by Mr. Ismail PA where he collaboratively
discussed the role of a nurse at every phase of disaster management.
The programme came to an end at1.00 pm with vote of thanks followed by
distribution of certificates. Refreshments Followed.

Nursing, Sumandeep Nursing College, presented Disaster Impact like mortality, morbidity,
Health care services, impact on environment, Population, food supply and psychological and
social behavior and Disaster response which includes definition, objectives and components
like search and rescue, field care, migration, post disaster assessment, triage, logistic and
supply and disaster relief.
Mr. Swamy PGN, Asst professor, Department of Community Health Nursing, Sumandeep
Nursing College, continuing the session on the topic Disaster Preparedness.

FEEDBACK FROM PARTICIPANTS: -
The participants and the resource persons provided positive feedbacks regarding the
programme except for a few flaws in the organization of the CNE. the students were
contended and also requested more of such presentation.
