This uses a long shot to exaggerate the size of her. In

addition to this, all of the famous and recognisable

landmarks are a lot smaller than her, giving her the impression

that she’s big. Also representing that she’s big and popular in the

charts/ that her music is very popular, also that they’re

various landmarks in different countries shows how she’s

taking the world be storm. Her hand on her hips also

accentuates her power and height

Wearing the formality of a suit connotes how he is serious about his

music and how he could be aiming for a new, serious genre in his new music.

On the contrary to this however, there is use of his signature likewise with a lot of the Q magazine. It represents a personal touch of the artists and also

shows how they are fun as well

Use of the red font in the Q magazine as this is there universal colour. So always having a clear house style in changing magazine designs and

covers, this adds an edge of recognition for the magazine. This colour red represents the

magazine style almost. So inputting certain phrases such as ‘Are A changin’’ where this is

spoken in his idiolect. Using the red colour scheme on it separates it out from the rest and

really helps it stand out, even on a darker background

The whole colour scheme of the magazine is very mundane, only using

blacks and dark browns. This however emphasizes

her as her hair is bright red, along with her size

The suit also represents his social class, as in his music we see that his

childhood was quite tough and he sings about gang

culture, however his straight posture and well

groomed appearance shows his success

The 2 posters on the right use very dark colours, this creates an edgy and

dark feel coinciding with the magazines genre as rock. The

magazine on the left however does use bright colours but they are all red, this creates a sense of danger around the paramore singer. Her

swearing hand gesture also shows how the rock singers play by their

own rules, say no to reformity which is why the fans love it, if they want to but they don’t want to get in trouble,

like an idolisation of sorts

Uses the stereotype of long hair for head banging and lots of

tattoos as this is what everyone assumes a rocker looks like. His posture is also very bent over, it

gives the effect that he is shouting at you

The taglines contain very vulgur words such as ‘pissed off’ and again, how the black and white emphasises the mans

tattoos and makes it seems like there is light and dark, and rock is this very dark, edgy type of music. This is promoting the

hard style, rock and roll lifestyle.

In most of the magazine covers the artists are presented in this

negative attitude, not conforming to rules type of

look. This would look bad and vulgur to someone who isn’t

interested in rock. But to them it would give them something to relate to. That their artists

which they look feels the same way about life that you do

The artist under the name ‘pink Floyd’ ostracizes him from the rest. This shows that he is the

most important member of the band as the other 4 are fairly

squashed together giving them a sense of unimportance

The text appears bent, slightly disorientated. This along with the background conveys the kind of hippy

look that the band represent

Coinciding with the pink Floyd picture. The camera angle gives

the effect of Paul McCartney being the leader of the band. Also

the members are wearing black and this merges with the dark background, highlighting their faces and facial expressions

Although this cover was published fairly recently, this

image used is Michael Jackson from years and years ago. Also

the colour scheme of the magazine is black and white. These 2 effects are done to

represent Michael Jackson back in the old days, the highlight of

the career producing big hits like ‘Thriller’ and so this

magazine portrays him in a highly positive manner

history of the artists

Uses regional identity to represent the background

history of the artists

Uses a background studio. This is so it can easily control the colours. For

example this background is very mundane. This makes the colours of

the artist vividly stand out

The posture of Dizzee Rascal is very informal. This also ties in with the

graffiti background; it connotes that he is fun and doesn’t take his music too seriously. Moreover the pull quote, stating ‘man’ at the end

represents this fun, informal feel for the magazine and the artist
