If you’re in Phuket in the first half of February, be sure to check out the festivities for Chinese New Year (31 Jan – 16 Feb) along with the annual Old Phuket Festival (15 Feb). Celebrations include shows, traditional dance, music and art. Call the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Office at 076 212 213 for additional details.
Wat Chalong Fair (9-15 Feb) is the biggest temple fair on the island since 1933. It’s a great place to see how the locals celebrate with delicious food and treats.
In March, visit the Thao Thepkasattri-Thao Sri Suntorn Festival at the Heroines Monument, Wat Pranangsang and Thalang Chana Kasuk Memorial Field, which are all located in the Thalang area.
If you’re looking to sample some great food on the island – be sure to read our recommendations for a couple of local highlights. We wish you a warm and welcoming stay.
May your every meal be exquisite!

Kan Eang @pier will celebrate its 42nd anniversary this February. It’s been over four decades since Kan Eang @pier began serving diners. At the very beginning, this little bay area was just a place for food exchange when Chamnan Prachantabutr started up the restaurant in 1973. It continues to carry on its ‘Kan Eang’ (‘feel at ease’) atmosphere from then through to now. This restaurant is not to be missed by visitors to Phuket – as it is well recommended by locals and regular visitors as a top spot for seafood.
Kan Eang @pier’s small entrance will lead you to the spacious seating area along 200 metres of the beautiful bay of Chalong, where tables are shaded under trees and thatched roofs. The location is what makes this restaurant one of the best places in Phuket to enjoy breakfast with sea views. As the restaurant is facing east, guests are greeted with an unbeatable sunrise. While daytime is cool and relaxing with the tropical

sea breeze, the night scene turns the venue into a remarkable romantic dining destination with dramatic lighting and a fascinating ambience.
Seafood lovers and those who have a thirst for the local lifestyle will discover that this is where you can experience some truly traditional local dishes and signature recipes. Kan Eng @pier built its fame on delicious homegrown specialities and seafood dishes created from fresh catches that are delivered to the restaurant’s door every day.Additionally, Japanese and Western cuisines have been added to the menu for even more variety.
Recommended dishes include the signature Mee Hoon Gang Poo (creamy crabmeat curry served with white vermicelli noodles). This local dish is an all-time favourite. The creamy yellow curry has the subtle flavours of turmeric and Cha-Plu leaves and, when combined with the natural sweetness of fresh crabmeat,is a treat for your taste buds.
Nam Prik Goong Sieb (shrimp paste with sun-dried shrimp), Bua Tod(battered fried freshwater seaweed with fresh shrimp), and Hor Mok (steamed fish curry mousse wrapped in banana leaf)are all dishes that represent authentic
local cuisine.Seafood lovers may also enjoy the seafood platter, stir-fried fish or prawns in tamarind sauce – or any of the sumptuous seafood selections cooked to your preference.
A superb dining experience should include a fine assortment of drinks. Kan Eang @pier provides a wonderful drinks menu including wines from around the world and an exciting list of cocktails.
Kan Eang @pier opens for all-day dining from 7am to 11pm daily. The venue is also ideal for private special events like celebrations and weddings.

Living on a tropical island, I often end up spending half of my weekend in one of the air-conditioned shopping malls. Shopping malls have become part of daily urban life, not only for residents but also for tourists; especially when the weather gets a bit too warm.
To cool off, I always pick the same treat to refresh and reward myself – delicious iberry ice cream. Eating ice cream is a social occasion that sparks emotions such as pleasure, childhood nostalgia and excitement. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t like ice cream!
Like any another Saturday, I found myself relaxing at the iberry cute corner on the 2nd floor of Central Festival Phuket after quickly ordering a scoop of Nutella flavor ice cream and a cup of hot Lavazza latte. It is a pleasure watching people choosing their iberry flavors. It reminds me of when my friends and I were children with skinned knees, spending a good ten minutes pressing our noses against the cold glass
Looking through over 30 flavors before making a decision can be a real adventure if it is your first time at iberry.

of the ice cream case at a shop in our neighborhood. Looking through over 30 flavors before making a decision can be a real adventure if it is your first time at iberry.
Almost 15 years since the brand was established by enthusiastic Thai entrepreneurs, these homemade cold sweets have risen in demand. This comes as no surprise if you have tried their homemade local fruity flavor ice cream. Nothing else compares! Santol ice cream is my first choice on days I feel tempered sourness is required.
Back to my love of Nutella: I always enjoy it on toast and had never thought of it as an ice cream flavor. Like many others, I was swept up in the delicious Nutella craze when I first found it at iberry. I don’t know how they make this flavor so super creamy/dreamy – but it is a must-try. I finished the scoop and sipped the Lavazza, Italy’s best-selling coffee. This is one of very few ice cream shops that serve great coffee, just adding to its allure. It’s a cozy café where the whole family can enjoy a treat.
Fortunately I met one of my friends here; otherwise I might still be unaware that iberry also offers an à la carte menu including treats like honey toast
and crepe cream cold. I was in a piggy mood and did not hesitate to try the crispy toast. We sampled a couple more flavors of ice cream as well: cookie and creamy vanilla along with darkest dark chocolate. Unsurprisingly both of us went for a whole cup of syrup and finished it quickly. It erased the old thought that classic Shibuya honey toast is good only with vanilla flavor.
The crepe cream cold is definitely something to try. Crepes are very versatile and you can’t go wrong with any choices of fruit and ice cream to add. Our crepe was simply filled with fresh strawberry, banana, scoops of banana cheese and almond ice cream topped with chocolate sauce. A touch of sweetness from the crepe, whisk of creamy, nutty flavor from the almond and cheese, and tangy freshly cut strawberry blend all makes for an incredible combination. It is perfectly divine! I was really full; otherwise I would have ordered the waffles too!
Two branches of iberry are available in Phuket:
• 2nd floor Central Festival Phuket • Phuket Square Zone, Jungceylon Patong
