Retiree Activities Office (RAO)35th FW/CVR

14th Annual Retiree Appreciation Day

• By AFI 36-3106, maintains a Retiree Activities Office, subordinate to the Vice Commander, and staffed by retiree volunteers.

• Misawa RAO supports retirees of all services in Tohoku and Hokkaido.

• Approximately 450 retirees, dependents and widows

• Established Feb 2000

• The Misawa AB RAO acts as a liaison between the base and the military retiree community.

• We disseminate information by e-mail and newsletters (Ex:TRICARE, ACA, VA, Job Openings, Community events, fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, etc.)

• Assist survivors and retirees with benefits, taxes, social security, etc.

• Provide translating and processing service to Japanese widows for claims, taxes, SSA and SBP, etc.

• Publish quarterly newsletter and widows’ newsletter in Japanese and disseminate to all retirees in region.

• Organize Annual Retiree Appreciation Day.

14th Annual Retiree Appreciation Day

• When: October 4th, 2014• Where:

1. Officers Club Ballroom Breakfast with the Base Leadership – 0800 to 0930

2. Exchange Foyer – Opening Ceremony, Cake Cutting, Prize Drawing, Presentations, Events

• Annually, Air Force-wide, usually in September or October, all base RAOs are encouraged to hold a Retiree Appreciation Day event.

• The Misawa RAO usually holds its event in conjunction with the Exchange’s “Still Serving” Celebration.

• Not only the Air Force, but military retirees are still serving, applying their years of military experience and leadership in our community as DoD Civilians, Contractors, Appropriated Fund Services, Non-Appropriated Fund Services, Schools, Hospitals, and as volunteers everywhere in our communities.

• The Air Force recognizes these dedicated persons for their giving, experience, patriotism and enthusiasm.

• We ask for your support. If you have retirees working in your office or shop, encourage him or her to attend this event, even giving time off if necessary.

• If you know or meet a retiree, recognize and thank him or her for their service.
