RETRACING THE ODYSSEY1882
Baron Von Etwas
The vessel
The Journey Begins
The Historical Troy resides in modern dayTurkey at the site of Hisarlik
Calvert’s Discoverylaid the groundwork formore excavation ofwhat is confirmed to be the site of Troy.
Cape Gelidonya
I had heard rumors of rough waters around Cape Gelidonya.
I took this as a chance to
test my equipment.
The Lotus Eaters
My studies suggest that the Lotus Eaters can be no one other than the inhabitants of Crete.
Dittany of Crete is one ofmany plants found only onCrete.
The Therese – a French shipwhich sunk off the shore ofCrete while fighting theOttoman Empire.
Trip Gone Awry
What has gone wrong in the sub I thought to be of perfect construction?
It matters not anymore, now that I’m within sight of a sunken city!
Could this possibly be the city of Atlantis that has been told of by Plato and a ‘video’ from the future?
If so I have found the most ancient and sought after city in the world.
Findings in the Sunken City
After an extensive search throughout the city I have determined this must not be the mythical city of Atlantis.
Instead what I have discovered is an ancient port city called Pavlopetri. Its astonishing how well preserved it has remained in the sea as I can identify buildings, courtyards, streets, tombs, and temples.
After a lengthy survey and documentation of this site I resupplied at the nearby town of Neapolis, but withheld my findings until the end of my journey.
HadesIn order to dispel the myth of Hades I decided I
must journey out to the AtlanticMy goal was to see if I could find evidence of the
River OkeanosHalf of this myth has already been dispelled as
the earth is clearly not flat so there cannot be an end of the earth
The only possible explanation I found for the mysterious origins of Hades are the sea caves I encountered. Perhaps one of the numerous entrances was thought of as the passage to Hades
RMS Douro
After exploring a couple of sea caves to no avail, I decided to return to Italy.
On my way back to Italy I had a bit of a mishap. I considered not mentioning it, but in the name of knowledge, I vowed to detail every part of this trip
The vessel I’m in can be a bit tricky to maneuverI struck a ship I believe to be the RMS DouroThe ship went down in only 30 minutesI stuck around to make sure everyone made it to
safety..without revealing myself, of course
RMS Douro
When the chaos was over I did a little exploring
Needless to say this accident may have been a bit of luck for me as my funds are now replenished
Now that I have dispelledthe myth of Hades and replenished my funds I will proceed and continue onto Italy
Sirens
Search for evidence of SirensRocky island: The Island of Anthemoessa
Sirens were said to be playmates of Hades’ wife, Persephone, before she was queen. Once she was taken the Sirens wanted to rescue her and fly across the waters so they asked for wings. They soon realized they couldn’t save her and ended up committing suicide in the waters and thus they became sea-dwellers luring sailors into their rocky waters with their intoxicating songs.
The only evidence I found were a few tools that seemed to look man-made. I noticed a few sharks with odd spear-like weapons jabbed into their sides.
These tools had many small details and were made out of materials only found in the deepest part of the sea.
Scylla and Charybdis
Arrived at the Straight of Messina
We found on one side the mythical Scylla
On the other side we found Charybdis
Scylla and Charybdis Debunked
Scylla really just a rocky shore?
• Was Charybdis just a whirlpool?
• “Stuck in between a rock and a hard place”
Other Sea Creatures Found
Vampire Squids
• Goblin Shark
The Vampire Squid seemed to be about an arms length long. On the underside of its tentacles looked to be large teeth.
The Goblin Shark just looked like an ugly unicorn. It looked like the shark had a horn. The teeth were really jagged which seemed to be a striking difference than most sharks.
Conclusion
This journey has completely changed my views on the world, all of these “mythical” stories have some merit to them. The world is a vast mysterious place and so much has yet to be explored.
I started this journey hoping to debunk Odysseus’ voyage and in turn realized I wanted to do it just for the sake of knowledge and experience.
