Marysville Trash Guidelines Antique Train Receives

New Paint Job/Ceremony A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the iconic locomotive in Marysville City Park on August 4, 2017 to recognize its new paint job coordinated by Eagle Scout John Decator. Decator found inspiration to repaint the engine from his fond memories of playing at Marysville City Park as a youngster. When the 14-year-old was looking for a project to enable him to earn his Eagle Scout badge, the locomotive, which was in dire need of a paint job, quickly came to mind. Donated to the city in 1957, the 1926 antique was originally owned by The Detroit Edison Company. Both Decator’s fa-ther and grandfather are associated with the company which further fueled the young man’s resolve to undertake the pro-ject. Receiving plenty of help to complete this massive task, Decator and 20 members of Boy Scout Troop #216 worked over several weekends this past spring to paint the engine. IPC Industrial Services donated sandblasting/priming ser-vices while Norkan donated the paint. Other local companies including Theut Products, Shirkey Electric, Advia and DTE Energy were sponsors for the project. Former Mayor Joseph Johns cut the ribbon during the cere-mony as he played an integral part in securing the locomotive for the city. The 93-year-old has dedicated countless hours over the last 60+ years to-ward the bet-terment of our community. Thank you to everyone in-volved with the project and for making our park a more enjoyable destination.

New Playground Equipment Installed in Park Five new pieces of playground equipment were added to Marysville City Park during the summer. Among the pieces in-stalled were a slide, climber and sandbox with two diggers near the antique locomotive. A merry-go-round and slide were placed by Pavilion 3 located in the southeast corner of the park. The equipment cost nearly $20,000 and was installed to fulfill the Recreation Master Plan. In addition Ella’s Playground is officially complete and was ded-icated on August 4, 2017. Three new extensions including a tight rope bridge, a slide and monkey bars complete this univer-sally accessible playground.
