How come you left the cityof Steel for the Big Smokeof London? After some college courses Iended up working at Sumoskate shop in Sheffield, Sebthe owner and friend wasfriends with everyone at SlamCity in London, he heard theyneeded a new employee, so Iwent to have an interviewwith Paul Sunman around 97maybe, he said I could startas soon as I wanted. I thenwent to San Francisco for 6weeks, with all the Sheffield/Worksop skaters, then cameback and moved to Londonwith a bag of clothes and myboard into a friends room in acouncil flat in Stockwell, nearthe skatepark. It was so sick.

How’s skating different inLondon compared toSheffield? When I moved away I foundthe sense of community hardto leave behind, we all lived inthe same area in Sheff, S11was our post code, so we alllived near each other andcould call one another to goskating. But the spots inSheffield are limited, whereas when I moved here thecrew I skated with was moretransiant, but way betterspots. Now we have anamazing crew here inLondon, it feels like it did inSheffield all those years ago ,its so good, plus most of myfriends from up there havemoved here now to. ExceptBainsey Rob and Blank! ➨

So your now the teammanager, euro scout comecorespondent for Zero?Yeah I started at thebeginning of the year aseuropean tm for all theBlackbox brands Zero,Mystery and Fallen. Its goingwell, I'm just working fromhome at the minute, but itscool. How did that come about?I left Slam City about a yearand a half ago to work atNDUK , the biggest UK distroof US products at the time. Igot to work closely with JamieThomas on a few thingsregarding marketing, toursand promotions, as that wasmy role there. My good friendFos is mates with him to, asFos does graphics for Zero attimes, so I hung out withJamie a bit on the trip they didhere and in the states withFos when we went to LA andSD a couple of times to.Jamie came over to visit latelast year after my wedding, and with NDUK out ofbusiness, he offered me thejob starting in Jan this year.

What are you looking to dowith the Zero, Fallen andMystery brands here in theUK / Europe? My role is to indentify ridersthat are most suited to thebrands throughout Europe, and get them on the teams ifpossible, and try at gettogether a tiered team, like anA list rider/s on eachcompany in each country.and also working inconjunction with distributorson flowing a B list of riders tobring through.

Who have you lined up forthe team already? On Zero Europe theresConhuir Lynn from Ireland, hes so sick, he came overrecently for a week and killedit. Also, a kid called ThomasNielsen from Denmark who isgnar for how young he is. Hehas got a part coming up inPuzzle, so watch out for that.Plus I just got this kid on flowcalled Fabian Verhaghe fromBelgium he rides for CircaEurope to, he is sick - a railchomper. ■

Casino started life at the endof 1997 right here inMalcolms arcade, the samearcade that we’re in today butback then skateboarding justwasn’t big enough for us topay the rent! So instead ofclosing down, we decided torelocate to a smaller shop onthe top floor of Silver Arcade, where we stayed for a goodyear and a half!

But then in the year 2k SilverArcade was forced to closeso Leicester’s only skater-owned skater-ran storedecided to move back toMalcolm Arcade but in abigger, better position. It wasonly another year before wegot the chance to take on thespace next door and expandthe shop further, becomingthe Casino you know today!

So how did you end up onCasino?I think Andy (Simpson) sawMe and Wilko skating andwanted to make his teambigger, he just asked us if wewanted to get on. And ofcourse we wanted to be on,so we were on. hahaDid you put together anyfootage for Andy then?Nah, he just saw skating andknew who I was. No tapes, well I gave him some footageonce I was on but it was allfilmed shite, word of mouthIsuppose.

What’s it like riding forCasino? The best thing ever.Everyone who works in theshop and all the team ridersare friends so it’s just likesome big family.Would ever think of ridingfor any other shops? No way, Dice for life.Tell us a little about theother riders on the team? There all amazing. Paul staysin Bristol a lot so I don’t seehim that much, Josh andJohn live in Hinkley so it’s thesame with them. But I seeAndy, Luke, Eric and Wilkoloads, its cool. And lastly any thanks?Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Who else?!
