AsakeypillarofSingapore’smanufacturingsector,semiconductorsrepresentthefastest-growingelectronicssegment.Frommodestbeginnings,Singapore’ssemiconductorsectorhasdevelopedintoavibrantecosystemwiththefullvaluechainofactivities.
Integrated Circuit Design Postgraduate Scholarship (ICPS)
TheSingaporeEconomicDevelopmentBoard(EDB)hasallocatedS$16milliontothisnewinitiative,aimedatencouragingstudentstotakeupICdesignatapostgraduate(MastersorPhD)levelwithinSingapore’stwomainuniversities,NanyangTechnologicalUniversity(NTU)andNationalUniversityofSingapore(NUS).TheICPSisexpectedtobenefit150ICdesignersbetween2009and2014,providing100%sponsorshipcoveringresearch,coursefeesandstipends.ICPSrecipientswillalsobeabletohonetheirdesignskillsthroughattachmentandtrainingopportunitieswithlocalcompanies.
Specialist Manpower Programme (SMP) IC Design
SMPICDesignisascholarshipsponsoringundergraduatesintheirfinalyearofstudiesinICdesign.Thescholarshipisco-fundedbyEDB(70%)andtheindustry(30%).Uponcompletionoftheirstudies, SMP recipients are required to serve a bond withthesponsoringcompany.
