Insulation

DescriptionKooltherm® rigid phenolic insulation is based on patentedtechnology. Whilst retaining all of the benefits of rigidpolyurethane and rigid polyisocyanurate insulation, Kooltherm®

rigid phenolic insulation has a far superior resistance to burningand spread of flame and the lowest thermal conductivityof any commonly available insulant of 0.021 W/m.K(0.146 BTU.in/h.ft2.°F).

Kooltherm® High–Density rigid phenolic insulation is alsoavailable. Its heavier density gives it much greater compressionstrength and rigidity whilst retaining its far superior resistanceto burning and spread of flame, making it ideal forload–bearing applications.

Kooltherm® and Kooltherm® High–Density rigid phenolicinsulation are entirely CFC/HCFC–free with zero OzoneDepletion Potential (ODP).

Kooltherm® and Kooltherm® High–Density rigid phenolicinsulation have gained a reputation for quality and consistency,a reputation that has spread world–wide.

Kooltherm® products are either cut from blocks of rigidphenolic insulation, using modern computer aidedmanufacturing techniques, or manufactured in a continuouslamination process.

Temperature RangeKooltherm® and Kooltherm® High–Density rigid phenolicinsulation may be used on surfaces with operatingtemperatures from –180°C to +120°C (–292°F to +248°F).

Moisture ResistanceKooltherm® rigid phenolic insulation has a closed cell contentof > 90%, which makes it highly resistant to moisturepenetration and wicking. It is an ideal insulation material forcold, chilled and low–temperature.

Kooltherm® High–Density rigid phenolic insulation has thesame resistance to moisture penetration and is alsonon–wicking as the lower density product.

Fire and Fire PerformanceThe resistance to burning and spread of flame of Kooltherm®

rigid phenolic insulation and Kooltherm® High–Density rigidphenolic insulation is far superior to that of any other cellularplastic insulation material, regardless of facing type. In addition, there is an almost complete absence of smoke when theseproducts are subjected to a flame source. Kooltherm® rigidphenolic insulation is Class O/Low Risk to the UK BuildingRegulations.

Insulation PerformanceKooltherm® rigid phenolic insulation has a high closed cellcontent and fine cell structure. The result is a thermalconductivity of 0.021 W/m.K (0.146 BTU.in/h.ft2.°F).

0.021 W/m.K (0.146 BTU.in/h.ft2.°F) is the lowest thermalconductivity of any commonly available insulation material. A thinner insulant often results in lower surface area andtherefore savings in finishing materials.

Insulation

DescriptionThe Tarecpur® range comprises high quality CFC/HCFC–freerigid polyurethane insulation products suitable for many typesof use.

The development of rigid polyurethane insulation began morethan fifty years ago when it’s unique combination of lowdensity, excellent water resistance and rigidity was utilised forimproving buoyancy in the marine industry. Subsequentrecognition of its very low thermal conductivity and resistanceto oil and chemicals (e.g. styrene) led to its commercialdevelopment in the thermal insulation industry.

Temperature RangeThe Tarecpur® range of thermal insulation products may be used for operating temperatures from –200°C to +100°C (–328°F to +212°F).

Moisture ResistanceTarecpur® insulation has excellent resistance to the passageof water vapour, minimal water absorption and excellentresistance to wicking. When used in conjunction with a vapourtight facing, Tarecpur® provides a system which is totallymoisture resistant.

Fire and Fire PerformanceRigid polyurethane insulation is a thermoset material and willnot melt or produce flaming droplets when exposed to fire, asis the case with thermoplastic materials. It is rarely usedwithout some form of additional facing and assessments of fireperformance should consider the type of application andfacing material used.

With suitable facings a Class 1 Spread of Flame rating and aClass O/Low Risk fire rating to the UK Building Regulationscan easily be achieved. For applications where fire performanceis a particular issue, the use of products from the Tarecpir®

range of rigid polyisocyanurate insulation or Kooltherm® rangeof rigid phenolic insulation should be considered.

Insulation PerformanceTarecpur® is one of the most thermally efficient insulationmaterials available and retains its thermal performance underthe most severe operating conditions, by virtue of its closedcell structure and high resistance to moisture absorption.

Tarecpur® products have fully aged thermal conductivityvalues in the range of 0.025 to 0.026 W/m.K.(0.173 BTU.in/h.ft2.°F to 0.180 BTU.in/h.ft2.°F)

Mechanical PerformanceTarecpur® insulation has a high elastic capacity and strongmechanical characteristics. Therefore it provides an excellentinsulation system for general thermal insulation applications orthe insulation of refrigerated vehicles.

Moisture ResistanceThe Tarecpir® range has a closed cell content of >90% givingit excellent resistance to moisture penetration and wicking. When used in conjunction with a vapour tight facing, Tarecpir®

provides a system which is totally moisture resistant. Fire and Fire PerformanceTarecpir® is a thermoset material. When subjected to fire, itsouter surface forms a strong carbonaceous layer that retardsfurther flame spread and penetration. Tarecpir® does not meltor produce flaming droplets when exposed to fire, as is thecase with thermoplastic materials. Tarecpir® satisfies therequirements of the major industrial specifications.

Insulation PerformanceTarecpir® is one of the most efficient thermal insulationmaterials available and retains its thermal performance underthe most severe operating conditions.

Tarecpir® products have fully aged thermal conductivity valuesin the range of 0.025 to 0.029 W/m.K. (0.173 BTU.in/h.ft2.°Fto 0.201 BTU.in/h.ft2.°F)

Tarecpir® CR InsulationFor cryogenic applications where high demands on fire andthermal performance are required, Tarecpir® CR has beendeveloped. Its excellent resistance against thermal stress andhigh fire performance (ASTM E84 FSI ≤ 25) makes Tarecpir®

CR highly suitable for insulation applications with a workingtemperature down to –200°C (–328°F).
