Lorenzo the Great (LarryLipman, below) got on his kneesand entertained the littlest of the
kids with a silk routine. Each ofthe little kids held a silk andhelped Lorenzo the Great make
it disappear. He followed this with
a Jasper the Ghost Halloweenroutine.
Noland Montgomery (upperright) performed a miser's dream
routine using a boy from the
audience as a helper, pluckingcoins from the boys ear, shirt,
elbow, collar, and hair, and thenfinishing with a stream of coins
from the boy's nose. This wasfollowed by a puppet routineusing a rabbit-in-hat puppet
named "Chester," who did exactlythe opposite of everything Noland
told him, to the hysterical delightof the audience.
With Hippity Hop Rabbits,
"Whitey" and "Blackie", JohnRoberts (below) had the kids
screaming "turn them around" -
adults laughing - the kids yelling -"No, The other way! Then at the
end there was absolute silencewhen the surprise ending occurredwith the back side of "Whitey"
and "Blackie" rabbits were nowred and green.

Bob Mills (a guest) did somefunny gags then he did a routine inwhich the Mom knew ahead oftime which color Peanut M&Mwould be taken out of the bag byher son, and then the remaining
M&Ms all changed to her chosencolor, blue.
Past President Eric Henningfolded a handkerchief into amouse, then wound it up (to thedelight of the kids) and chased itaround the room as it jumped out
of his hands. He then told a story(set to music) about a kingdomwithout colors, and had thechildren collect the colors fromtheir clothes and toss them at atube and a black-and-white flowersilk became colored and grew tofour times its size. His energykicked the show up a notch."
Dwight Redman performed 'DotsImpossible' showing a two-
sided giant domino card with aspot on one side and four spots onthe other. He turned the dominocard back to the first side- now
there were three spots instead ofone! He turned it over again, andnow
there were six spots instead offour! If that wasnt amazingenough, he pretended to"teach thesecret" to the audience. Just whenthey thought they knew how it'sdone- there were now eight spotson the card! Then Dwight
performed his version of MartinLewis Cardiographic. Themagician had a spectator select acard and then he took a sketch padand began to draw what he
believed will be the selected card. Then he told the audience that it isreally just the deck of cards hewas drawing. As if by magic, thechosen card appeared from thesketch of the deck! Then thesketch is torn from the pad andgiven to the spectator to keep!
Theo Rushin presented hisversion of the Benson Bowlroutine with a young lady from the
audience. This is a true classic ofmagic in which sponge ballsmagically disappear and reappearone at a time under an inverted
bowl.
Dick Christian did two effects, his classic egg bag routine with agirl (Sarah) and boy (Robert) fromthe audience. Then after
producing several colorful silks he produced a seldom-seen classiclive rabbit ("Snowball, the MagicBunny") from his empty top hat.At the conclusion of the show, the
children were invited to the stageto pet Snowball.

In the corporate world, we always hear the term 'Dress For Success!". And as all youths know, IMAGECOUNTS! Let's say you're quite a good magician. Youhave a decent repertoire with some great effects. Youve
practiced it thousands of times, perfected it in front ofthe mirror and now are ready to perform a 20 minsegment for a small group of people at an informalgathering. But wait....what are you going to wear? Yousay Who cares what I am wearing? Image and
presentation are everything. What is the first thing people see when you start performing? Its you! Firstimpressions last. You only have one chance to make agreat first impression even before you do your magic.
You might think, I can wear anything to do my magic
trick and it will still amaze them. You're probably right!A great effect is a great effect! But with a little style andimaging, you can take your performance to a whole newlevel.
Imagine two cars side by side. Both have the samehigh powered engine same sport suspension. The firstcar is dull grey in color. The interior is basic cloth. Thesecond car is a shiny orange in color and looks stylish
inside. There are some beautiful trims on the interior, feels and looks expensive. Now, which car would youinstinctive go and look at first? Which car will yourfriends go and look at first?
Likewise, if you are dressed in just your regularclothes (jeans & t-shirt or pants & short sleeved collaredshirt) and performing tricks, yes you will still probablyget great reactions. But consider the possibilities if youstepped up your dress code slightly. You dont have towear branded clothes nor spend alot of money on yourimaging. Just be aware of what your are wearing andwhat you want to portray. It can determine the type ofimpression you leave behind.
~ A rule of thumb: Don't dress for the occasion,
instead dress slightly better than what the occasion
requires. ~
