Week 4 Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers,
Over these last few weeks, I’ve taken the opportunity to reflect on students and school progress in
the light of the school plan developed earlier in the year.
This has included reflection on our School Directions under the following questions:
Where are we currently?
How do we know we’ve made progress (evidence based)?
Where are we going for the rest of the year with the transition into the second year of
the directions next year?
What is most evident to me is the tremendous progress the whole school is making in relation to
our strategic directions:
Excellence in Learning
Excellence in Teaching and Leading
Excellence in Strong Partnerships
Our School Plan entails the vision that underpins our future and the realisation of these aspirations
over the next three years.
School Vision Statement:
We continue to promote a safe, nurturing and friendly school environment with a strong sense of
community. We create quality learning experiences that promote equity and excellence. We are a
leading and developed school centred on providing progressive educational experiences and en-
hanced learning opportunities to support all students in order for them to be responsible and in-
formed future citizens.
As with any facets of change, it takes time, dedication and a firm commitment by all stakeholders.
The School Plan is available on the School’s Website for viewing. I would encourage all parents and
carers to take a moment and read this document.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Loughhead.

Both Nikitta and Elli received excellent feedback and were praised for their debating knowledge and speaking ability. Although the girls were not successful in making the final team, Nikitta finished in the top 7 of debaters in Western Sydney!

JNR Big Day in 2015
Four lucky students attended the inaugural JNR Big Day In yesterday. This event was designed to give students a taste of what technology is out there as well as how that technology can be applied to our everyday lives (including school learning!). They saw displays from robotics to coding, #D augmented reality devices to drones and they even played Minecraft to design a home! Our students represented their school with pride and left with new knowledge and a hunger for more.
Selective High School Applications 2017 - Mrs Thorn
The Intention to Apply for Selective Schools form was sent home to Year 5 students this term. Whooping cough information for schools
There is an outbreak of whooping cough (pertussis) in NSW, mainly affecting school-aged
children.
Coughing spreads the infection to others nearby. Whooping cough can spread to anyone at
home, including younger brothers and sisters. Whooping cough can be especially dangerous
for babies.
Whooping cough starts like a cold and progresses to bouts of coughing that can last for
many weeks. The infection can occur even in fully-vaccinated children. Older children may
just have a cough that is persistent and may be worse at night.
Children with these symptoms should see a doctor.
If your doctor diagnoses whooping cough in your school-aged child, please let the
school know and keep your child at home until they have taken 5 days of
antibiotics. Keep coughing children away from babies.
Whooping cough vaccines give good protection against infection but immunity fades with
time. Check that all your children are up to date with their vaccines, due at 6 weeks,
4 months, 6 months, 4 years and 12 years of age (offered to all Year 7 students through the
NSW school-based vaccination program). A booster is also recommended at 18 months of
age.
A booster dose of vaccine is also recommended for adults that are in contact with young
children, such as school staff and parents. Pregnant women are recommended to have a
booster dose during each pregnancy and this is funded by NSW Health. Those who are new
parents or carers of babies should consult their general practitioner about appropriate
immunisation.
Your local public health unit can provide advice about whooping cough on 1300 066 055 or
visit the NSW Health website for information for childcare and schools about whooping
cough.
