43History: Riverview Homes, Inc. (RHI) has been providing affordable manufacturedhousing to the Tri-State area since 1970. The company was founded by Sam andCarole Fanelli and John (Jack) and Mary Lou Rehak, two local businessmen who metwhile working together at the Valley News Dispatch in the 1960s. In 1968 they part-nered to purchase an existing used car dealership on what is now the Vandergrift salescenter and Riverview Auto Mart was formed with $1,167.82 in assets on the books. In1970 the first manufactured homes arrived on the sales lot and Sam and Jack begantheir manufactured home career. Little by little the car sales dwindled and home salestook their place. In 1971 Riverview purchased a local competitor adding EdgewoodMobile Home Mart, now our Apollo location, as our first sub lot. At this time, RiverviewAuto Mart changed its name to Riverview Auto and Mobile Mart. In 1972 Riverviewpartnered with a competitor and formed Butler Mobile Home Mart near the Butler FairGround, unfortunately this partnership was dissolved in 1973. Also in 1972 our thirdlocation was added when Route 22 Mobile Home Mart opened, this is our present NewAlexandria location. 1973 was not the best of economical times and yet Riverview con-tinued to expand and buy out struggling competitors. Through the purchase of a com-petitor, Greensburg Mobile Home Mart was added in 1973. This location was locatedon the present site of the Westmoreland Mall, because of the mall construction projectthe lot was moved to its present location in 1974. Also our Latrobe location was addedin 1974 along Route 30 about ½ way between Greensburg and the Latrobe airport. In1977 Riverview incorporated and Riverview Homes, Inc. was born. 1981 brought aboutanother expansion with the purchase of another competitor and the addition of ValleyDiscount Home Sales located near Sarver. In 1982 we opened Butler County DiscountHome Sales. About this time, the second generation of the families, Robert and JohnFanelli and Doug Rehak, began their full time careers in the family business. All threehad been working around school schedules in all aspects of the business includingservice, sales and installation. 1982 also saw the birth of Pine Grove ManufacturedHomes, Inc. in Pine Grove, PA. This manufacturing venture was done with the com-bined efforts and investment of a few of the most successful manufactured home deal-erships in the North East USA, Riverview being one of them. The Pine Grove Homename has come to be associated with innovative home designs and high quality.Riverview Homes is proud to still be associated with Pine Grove Homes. In 1986 twoadditional sales centers were added, one in Carmichaels and one in Erie. Additionallyin 1986 Riverview Homes Insurance Agency was formed to provide cost effectiveinsurance protection to our customers. 1988 the Erie location was sold and the Sarverand Latrobe locations were closed due to proximity to larger RHI sales centers inButler and Greensburg. By the mid 1990’s Sam and Jack had begun to turn over muchof the day to day running of the business to their sons. In 1997 Robert and JohnFanelli and Doug Rehak where appointed to the board of directors of RiverviewHomes, Inc. and elected to the official corporate job positions that more accuratelyrepresent the jobs that they had been doing. Sadly John Rehak died in May of 1997,he is still sorely missed. In the year 1999 www.riverviewhomesinc.com was createdand RHI has had a presence on the world wide web ever since. RHI’s web site hasgone through many changes and the increase in content has been staggering. Overthe years it has provided valuable housing information to thousands of home buyers.

43It was not until 2002 when once again RHI bought out a competitor and expandedagain with the addition of our Clarion and Prospect sales center. When financingbecame scarce in 2002, Gold Coast Construction Loans was formed and added tothe RHI family of businesses and it has been providing RHI customers with lowcost construction loans ever since. With the growth of the modular home busi-ness, in 2004 Pleasant Valley Modular Homes, Inc. in Pine Grove, PA was formedwith RHI and a handful of successful North East USA modular home builders. Aswith Pine Grove Homes, Pleasant Valley Homes has built a reputation of high qual-ity and superior designs. RHI is proud to still be associated with this state of theart manufacturing facility. To better house the growing new businesses and toallow for future growth, in 2006 RHI Vandergrift expanded the corporate headquar-ters by adding 6 new offices and a large conference room. 2007 was the year whenall of the RHI locations gave up their original names and took the RiverviewHomes, Inc. name as their official name. In 2009 Gold Coast Construction Loanwas licensed by the Department of Banking as a mortgage lender. This broughtinto the RHI family a full service mortgage brokerage company to give our cus-tomers direct access to the mortgage market and to fully develop all the differentmortgage programs that are available. With the change of GCCL, RHI can truly callitself a “one stop” shop for all our future home buyers. Every aspect of buying,installing, financing, insuring, servicing and loan closing can be handled by a RHIemployee or an RHI affiliated business. This combination of people and servicesallows for better communication, quick decisions when it is important and over allfaster service for our customers. Also by providing these services in house theyare done at a much more competitive price than would be charged if it was neces-sary to contract out for them. Our hope and goal for the future is to continue toprovide our friends and neighbors in and around Western Pennsylvania with anaffordable housing option. With humble beginnings in the used auto industry, RHIhas grown to be one of the most respected home builders in the entire manufac-tured home industry. With retail sales now approaching $10 million and corporateassets over $8 million, the employees of RHI still consider the individual retail cus-tomer as the single most important part of RHI’s success.
