Works Submitted Lockard, Joe and Sherry Rankins-Robertson. Teaching Prison Teaching.

The article addresses freedom and authority in the context of prison education and defensive learning communities. It describes issues surrounding a newly developed writing tutoring program for primarily maximum-security inmates as a model for effective distance education programs, but not to replace robust in-classroom learning environments that keep learners needs central. The article offers reflections for not only new teachers in a prison environment, but also an argument for training interns who begin teaching careers in prisons.

Works-in-Progress Rankins-Robertson, Angela Clark-Oates, and Duane Roen. Understanding the Narratives of Our

Ancestors through Naming The Call to Be: Rhetorics of Names and Naming. Ed. Star Medzerian Vanguri.

This proposed chapter explores how personhood is affected when names are denied, withheld, or taken away in relation to immigration and recognition (Bulter 1997; 2009). In particular, we will discuss how naming acts as a performative in that it simultaneously constitutes and fails to constitute the immigrant as a subject. To explore this theoretical point, we will describe some example naming systems and conventions from immigrants countries of origin, the kinds of name changes that they made (or were made for them), and how names had the potential to not only expose the immigrant, but also expose the farce of an essential American identity (or immigrant identity, for that matter) as immigrants participated in American life in ways that aligned with what Lyotard (1979) calls a metanarraitve.

Rankins-Robertson, Sherry, Nicholas Behm, and Duane Roen. (Eds.) [Common]Places: Scholarly,

Theoretical, and Practical Applications of the Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing This edited collection examines the uses, applications, limitations, and challenges of the

Framework for Success in Postsecondary of Writing. The Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing (2011) [http://wpacouncil.org/framework] was developed by a joint task force of the Council of Writing Program Administrators, National Council of Teachers of English and National Writing Project as a response to Common Core State Standards.

    Statement needs content for clarity.
