TEACH ROBOTICS THE FUN WAY!

What is RoboCAMP?

RoboCAMP provides high quality e-learning materials. Our lesson plans are prepared to meet the educators’ requirements all over the world. We designed child friendly interface that is easy to use for both: children and teachers.

RoboCAMP is made by and for educators. Any teacher can quickly and easily get classes started, with no prior programming experience. Everything necessary to conduct lessons is available through the RoboCAMP online platform.

How it all started?RoboCAMP started in 2006 in Gdańsk, Poland, by Wojciech Syrocki as a small company that provided robotics courses during the summer holidays - literally Robotic Camps. It was a big success and many polish schools started to look for extracurricular activities like that. Using tools like LEGO Education or VEX was a new approach to teaching STEM in a very effective and attractive way.

The company grew very quickly and in 2009 evolved into RoboNET Ltd. New business was established by RoboCAMP owner and other educators experienced in the field of robotics: physicist Adam Barzowski and robotics engineer Damian Derebecki. During first years the company’s main activity was providing extracurricular classes to the rapidly increasing number of schools.

How it all started? At this early stage, the company’s activity was focused on delivering high quality services to the students. More than 5 000 children participated RoboCAMP workshops and lessons, during which students developed their knowledge and skills in a field of STEM using LEGO WeDo, LEGO Mindstorms NXT, VEX Robotics Design System and Robotis BIOLOID.

RoboCAMP program was awarded in a “Leaders of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009 Poland” competition in a category of “Science and Technology”.

European Projects

● 2009 - "Computer science and robotics - keys to the child development.”

Nearly 400 students had been trained in robotics and physics during the year, course was conducted in 7 primary schools. RoboNET provided an educational program not only for students, but also the workshop for the teachers to help them use new equipment during the lessons. We provided tailored, educational publications for both: students and teachers.

● 2009 - "I’m genius!”

Nearly 300 middle school students has been trained in robotics as a part of a general extracurricular program. The project took place in Busko Zdrój, Poland.

● 2011 - "Little developer”

More than 450 students were trained in a field of robotics during the one year long course. The project took place in schools in Puck and Krokowa, Pomeranian Region, Poland.

● 2013 - "Little engineer's school”

More than 500 students were trained in a field of robotics during the one year long course. The project took place in 6 primary schools in Gdańsk. Project was recommended as an example of good practice. Second edition of a “Little engineer's school” is in progress in 4 schools in Gdańsk.

We also cooperated with Polish Government in managing projects co-financed by Human Capital Operational Programme. We were able to test our curricula in practice, consulting its content with school teachers and students. That gave us better understanding on requirements of a regular school lesson program.

RoboCAMP curriculumFrom the very beginning we knew that quality is our priority. This is the reason that we started to work on the original RoboCAMP curriculum. We needed materials that will support our staff to provide great lessons: will be easy to use by children, give the teacher control over the lesson schedule and in a very detailed way explain building and programming process.

We have created RoboCAMP program from scratch to create tailored lesson plans that will explain science in a very eclectic approach. We wanted robots to be an attractive justification to discuss math, biology, astronomy, geography, physics and more.

RoboCAMP E-learningBack then we were using books and paper instructions but it still caused some mistakes and misunderstanding during the building process, and occasionally caused logistic problems during the classes.

We decided to create our own online tools that would help our teachers in conducting classes. Thanks to our previous experience we knew exactly what kind of materials do we need. We developed a simple, children friendly online platform that supports educators. We delivered lesson plans based on our proven RoboCAMP curricula content and with a learn-by-doing approach. We tried to make it as much practical as possible.

How it works?

Each RoboCAMP lesson consist of 4 steps:

Robotics lessons teach children about the role of technology in modern life. The LEARN bookmark is used to introduce important aspects of science, mathematics, technology and engineering.

Step-by-step instructions for building each robot are available to students through the RoboCAMP platform in the BUILD bookmark. Child friendly interface makes this process very easy and efficient.

Detailed instructions for programming the robot are available on the RoboCAMP platform. Teachers can begin programming classes even with no prior programming experience. Everything they need to know is available in the CODE bookmark.

When the job is done and all the robots are working properly, it’s time for the most important part of the lesson – play time and the PLAY bookmark. It’s when children see their LEGO WeDo or LEGO Mindstorms constructions in action and can experiment to modify their results.

Why it works?

● It is a great tool for a school teachers, that can be used during regular classes.

● RoboCAMP platform contains all the information necessary to conduct a lesson, with regard to its logistic, didactic, curricular and technical aspects.

● Child friendly design makes it easy to use for students.

● The system does not require any configuration, it is ready to use since the first logging in.

● All the robots used in a RoboCAMP’s curriculum are designed to be built from the standard LEGO Education sets - there is no need to own any extra parts.

● We provide 24/7 access to the platform that is secured by 12 servers all around the world.
