Rodger Schultz

IN SEARCH OF LIGHT

DC native Rodger Scultz is an achieved painter and sculptor whose work mesmerizes across a variety of themes, mediums, and styles. Schultz is preoccupied by the perceptive varieties achieved through different types of light, which he captures in portraits, landscapes, and abstract portrayals.

Rodger graduated from the University of Maryland in 1992 and went on to hold a sculpture apprenticeship under master Ed Beathitt in Arizon. Rodger’s works have been exhibited throughout the greater DC area and are held in private collections in the United States and throughout the globe.

‘FRIDA AS’ SERIES

“I am always in a state of discovery.  I like to do what I don't now how to do, and I don't know how to do portraits.  I don't ever want to know how to do portraits, and use the fertile soil of portraiture to play and test and mix styles at will.  Because I will not bind myself to any style, for consistency, I bind myself to subjects.  Frida is one of those subjects. Why Frida?  Because she is beautiful.” - Schultz

‘Mosaic Impressionism’ is Rodger Schultz’s word for the style of the ‘Grove’ series.  The strokes are tiled together as it would be in a mosaic. As there is little to no layering. Careful consideration is given to each stroke as every stroke has the possibility of being the stroke that the viewer will see. These works take an extravagant amount of patience and a longer time to complete. Every stroke translates that sense, allowing the viewer to be in the midst of a tranquil masterpiece.

Like the city he calls home, Rodger’s works re"ect in"uences ranging from Klimt to Andy Warhol to Japanese prints. Just as DC is a literal intersection of the globe, Rodger’s works seamlessly transgress boundaries of time, space, and medium in his search for beauty.
