The difference between looking and observing is that when we observe we do it with a purpose. The purpose to take in, soak ourselves with all that information through our senses and store it in our tool box ready to be used when the moment calls for it.

PERCEIVE _ Imagine you are walking downtown with a million thoughts in your head. When all of a sudden you come across something that catches your eye. It catches your eye because it trig-gers a spark in your brain that tells you this might be the solution to a previous design problem that has been presented to you. The solutions are everywhere, it’s a matter of noticing them.

IT’S NOT SIMPLE _ We have to adapt and create the best formula that works for us. I have found that the formula that works best for me is to ways stay alert. With my senses ready to obtain and grasp every bit of information I can. I have dubbed the formula as the 3Ps ; Perceive, Process, Produce.

PRODUCE _ There it is, your idea that started as an insignificant natural attraction to something that has become into a solid concrete idea. Now it is time to start acting and to make that thought a tangible one. It is not that simple, our role as designers is to act and to commit to those ideas, to move everything around us in order to make it happen. To stir things around, and then stir them some more until the piece of diamond starts shinning.

PROCESS _ After taking that information in and thinking that’s it, this is the direction that I need to take in order to achieve my solution. The process stage begins. You go home or back to the office and start molding the idea. Slowly shaping it. Sketches, doing more research on the topic and computer roughs work. Over thinking it and distilling it until, boom! A solid concrete idea that makes perfect sense is right in front of you.

Lego is a timeless company that has provided entertainment to many generations. They have expanded their line to the creation of many house hold utensils such as clocks, kitchen timers and ipod speakers, keeping that unique lego style that everyone loves. Playwell skin care product line is a reaction to Lego’s product and market expansion. The kit features four different body creams and a Lego head to display and to store the containers. The product has been tested out in parks and playgrounds and it is an instant eye catcher and a great con-versation starter.

As the environmental awareness increases, the market changes. Us, as human beings change with it as well. Our lifestyles change in order to adapt to our surroundings. It is very impractical for the environment and for our pockets to own a car in major cities such as San Francisco, New York, Japan, but the need for transporta-tion is always there. People find alternative ways to get around. Urbanvelo is a magazine designed for the urban biker that has adapted to this change. Urbanvelo highlights the beauty of riding in the city with the use of clean type and icons as well as photo driven designs.

Body Art is an exhibition being held at the American Museum of Natural history. It was raised to display the cultural background behind tattoos. In our society tattoos have been looked down upon. In other cultures, tattoos are a sign on unity, courage and respect. The exhibit displays the techniques used around the world for tattooing. It also displays the history of the use of the body as a canvas throughout the times and in different regions of the world.

I chose to redesign Office Max simply because it is a company that blends in with the rest of its kind. They try to push towards the more graphically fun side but I personally feel they always fall short. I opted to give Office Max a completely new and re-freshing look that explores a futuristic yet fun side. I achieved this by developing a mascot-like character named Max. This drastic change was for the sole purpose to make Office Max stand out from its competition in order to create a visual hierar-chy and to become the top of mind of its industry.

As a native to the Central American region, the Mayan civiliza-tion has always been a source of inspiration for me. Intrigued but its cultural complexity in many forms of art expanding from astrology to architecture, I decided to investigate more on the topic and created an informational book about this culture and its ways of thinking, as well as their many contributions to the world. The book touches on the topics of the region, their ag-ricultural knowledge, their beliefs and customs, as well as the vast architectural contributions such as Tikal and Chichen-Itza.

Maya Civilization, an ancient Native Am

erican culture that represented one of the most advanced

civilizations in the western hemisphere before the arrival of Europeans. The people known as

the Maya lived in the region that is now eastern and southern M

exico, Guatem

ala, Belize, El Salvador, and western H

onduras. They thrived for more than 2,000 years. The M

aya built massive

stone pyramids, tem

ples, and sculpture; developed a system of writing using hieroglyphs; and

recorded their achievements in m

athematics and astronom

y. Archaeologists long believed that M

aya culture reached its highest development from

about ad 300 to 900, during what is known

as the Classic period. Recent discoveries in northern Guatem

ala, however, have challenged that assum

ption. There, archaeologists have found highly developed cities, sophisticated art, and exam

ples of Maya writing that date from

as early as 600 years before the Classic period began. After 900 the M

aya mysteriously declined in the southern lowlands of G

uatemala. They later

revived in the north on the Yucatán Peninsula and continued to dominate the area until the

Spanish conquest in the 16th century.

Scribe is an eco-product created to reduce the use of paper through out the world. China during the early 2nd century.
