    Office closed

Dear Parishioners of Saint Joseph Church: The volunteers of Saint Mother Teresa Food Pantry wish to thank all our parishioners who took part in the Angel Gifts Program this Christmas and for the continued support of this ministry.

We received an incredible outpouring of toiletries, dish liquid, and laundry detergent, which will greatly help our clients over the next few months.

Because of your generosity, even though the food pantry has been temporarily closed, we have been able to assist many families with their needs on an individual basis. We will re-open on January 6, 2021.

This week I hosted a visit from a group of eight Girl Scouts and their leaders from Ogdensburg Troup 96298 who had collected boxes of food in the town of Ogdensburg for Saint Mother Teresa Food Pantry.

I had the opportunity to speak with these young Girl Scouts, show them around the food pantry and explain to them how their donation will help many people. In spite of the masks, I knew they were smiling; you could see in their young eyes how good they felt because of what they helped accomplished for others.

On behalf of our volunteers: Linda Nick, Claire Luckman, Magda Maslowski, Denise Thibault and Liz Sember, I would like to wish all our parishioners a Blessed Christmas and a most happy and healthy New Year.

God Bless! Christine R. Shell Executive Director Saint Mother Teresa Food Pantry

  • Final Days of 2020!

2021! Did you ever think 2020 would ever be over? For so many people, 2020 was probably one of the worst years of their lives. With the Wuhan virus, the loss of loved ones, jobs, careers, homes and even the normalcy of what was once known, has changed drastically. On top of all these tragedies, the only place left to bring our troubles and problems to, the Church, was even closed as well. So, to say the least, we truly felt we were left alone. So, as we embark on a New Year, maybe one of our resolutions could be that we learn to appreciate what we have, for we truly never know when it will be taken away from us. All throughout the Advent Season, we heard about the end times and how we should be prepared for the Second Coming of Christ. The First Sunday of Advent reminded us to “Be watchful and alert” (Mark 13:33). The Second Sunday told us to “Prepare the way of the Lord” (Mark 1:3). Gaudete Sunday gave us the example of Saint John the Baptist, that we too should “Make straight the way of the Lord” (John 1:23) and last weekend, we had the example of our Blessed Mother, ever reminding us that “Nothing will be impossible for God” (Luke 1:36). Still, we have the feeling that we are alone. But that far from the truth. In every generation, there have been calamities from pestilence, disease, plagues, the stock market crash, World Wars I and II, the Great Depression, the Holocaust, September 11th, etc. and each generation seems to feel that the time they lived through was the worst. In all of these events and times, the only consistent and stable entity was God Himself. Although we might have felt He was the furthest from us, it is times like these that I recall the anonymous poem “Footprints” of when it was questioned where Jesus was during the difficult times in life, why there were only one set of footprints in the sand. As we learned from this timely poem, it was then that the Lord carried us. So where was the Lord this past year? Exactly

where He has been every year, every month, every week, every day and every moment, right by our sides. Whether we can feel this reality or even acknowledge it, is another issue. But the reality remains that Jesus promised to be with us “Until the end of the ages” (Matthew 28:20). So possibly it is not something that is lacking in God, but rather, something that is lacking in us. I am a true believer that when things get rough, I mean really rough in your life, the people that stay by our sides are usually the “real” friends that we can depend upon. I have a friend in my life that under normal circumstances, I think we would argue and debate more than appreciate one another’s company. But I will always remember that during an extremely difficult time in my life, he was there, not to judge, not to naysay or give unsolicited advice (which is his specialty) but was just there and for that I will always cherish our friendship. Maybe that is what the Lord wants us to get out of 2020! Maybe we have been so far away from His grace, His love and His Church that having “hit bottom” in so many and varied ways, that we can finally turn to Him with all our minds, hearts and souls and say “Here I am, Lord” I need you more than ever. So, as we close the doors to 2020, no doubt many of you will want to slam them shut. But looking on the positive side of every moment, maybe we can say “thank you Lord” for teaching me what is important and what truly holds a special place in my life. We have prepared for four weeks of Advent, maybe some of us are ready to make straight His paths in our lives and in our hearts.

  • HYMNS FOR HOLY MASS this week

PROCESSIONAL “Angels We Have Heard on High”

Angels we have heard on high sweetly singing o’er the plain, and the mountains in reply echo back their joyous strains. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? Say what may the tidings be which inspire your heav’nly song. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing; Come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn King. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo. See Him in a manger laid whom the choirs of angels praise; Mary, Joseph, lend your aid, while our hearts in love we raise. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo.

PSALM RESPONSE Blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in His ways.

OFFERTORY “Away in a Manger” Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay, the little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing; the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes. I love you, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky and stay by my cradle till morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask You to stay close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in Your tender care, and fit us for heaven, to live with You there. COMMUNION “O Little Town of Bethlehem”

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by; Yet in the dark streets shineth the everlasting light. The hopes and fears of all the years are met in Thee tonight. For Christ is born of Mary and, gathered all above while mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wond’ring love. O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth, and praises sing to God the King, and peace to all on earth!

How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is giv’n! So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heav’n. No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin, where meek souls will receive Him, still the dear Christ enters in. RECESSIONAL “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”

Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Joyful, all you nations, rise; Join the triumph of the skies; With the angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!” Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!” Christ, by highest heav’n adored; Christ, the everlasting Lord! Late in time behold Him come, offspring of the Virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the God head see; Hail the incarnate Deity, pleased as man with us to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel. Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!” Hail the heav’n born Prince of Peace! Hail the sun of righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, ris’n with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by, born that we no more may die, born to raise each child of earth, born to give us second birth. Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
