The dates for the Baptism of children and for the Pre-Baptismal instruction of parents should be arranged in the rectory ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. In addition to English, and Spanish this Sacrament may also be in Italian.

•WEDDINGS/ MATRIMONIO Pre–marital instruction is a requirement for all engaged couples. Consequently, arrangements for weddings should be made SIX MONTHS in advance.

“But his servants objected, ‘How can I set this before a hundred people?’ Elisha insisted, ‘Give it to the people to eat, for thus says the Lord, they shall eat and there shall be some left over.’ And when they had eaten, there was some left over, as the Lord had said… When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he

said to Philip ‘Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?’ He said this to test him.” The selections from the book of Kings and from Mark are quite similar, - a hungry people, a compassionate prophet and a tremendous sign. May we move from the first testament and the mountain miracle to today. People today are starving throughout the world. Wasteful living traps us and blinds us to this reality. Community food banks, parish pantries, Catholic Relief Services address countless needs. We are asked to respond. We bring not the twenty barley loaves, but what has been offered to us as gift. We are asked to give not of our surplus, but of our selves. There is another hunger as well, a hunger for the Lord. How many are seeking, and will find His satisfaction, only through our word, our example. Who fed you, bringing the Lord to you? Are you ready to be like the tested Philip and extend your hand of compassion? Maybe I can be the boy Andrew presented and give something of myself.

Que podamos pasar del antiguo testamento y el milagro del monte a hoy. La gente hoy pasa hambruna en el mundo entero. Nosotros estamos atrapados en tanto desperdicio que nos ciega a la realidad. Bancos de comida de las comunidades, alacenas de parroquias, Servicios de Alivio Católicos ayudan de forma incontable. Se nos pide responder. Traemos no los veinte panes de cebada, sino lo que se nos ha ofrecido como un don. Se nos pide no dar lo que nos sobra, sino de nosotros mismos. Hay otro tipo de hambre, el hambre por el Señor. Cuántos buscan y encontrarán Su satisfacción sólo a través de nuestra palabra y ejemplo. ¿Quién lo alimentó a usted, lo trajo al Señor? ¿Está listo para ser probado como Felipe y extender su mano compasiva? Quizá, como el muchacho que Andrés presentó, pueda yo dar algo de mí mismo.

Tutti gli evangelisti ci riportano il racconto del miracolo della moltiplicazione dei pani. Si tratta di nutrire una grande folla di persone e di seguaci di Gesù, radunati sulla riva nord-est del lago di Tiberiade. Come dimostra l’atteggiamento dei partecipanti, essi interpretano questo pasto come un segno messianico. La tradizione ebraica voleva che

il Messia rinnovasse i miracoli compiuti da Mosè durante la traversata del deserto. Ecco perché, secondo questa attesa messianica, si chiamava “profeta” il futuro Salvatore, cioè “l’ultimo Mosè”. Infatti, secondo il Deuteronomio, Dio aveva promesso a Mosè prima della sua morte: “Io susciterò loro un profeta in mezzo ai loro fratelli e gli porrò in bocca le mie parole ed egli dirà loro quanto io gli comanderò”. Ecco perché le persone che sono presenti durante la moltiplicazione dei pani cercano di proclamare re Gesù. Ma Gesù si rifiuta, perché la sua missione non è politica, ma religiosa. Se la Chiesa riporta questo episodio nella celebrazione liturgica è perché essa ha la convinzione che Gesù Cristo risuscitato nutre con il suo miracolo, durante l’Eucaristia, il nuovo popolo di Dio. E che gli dà le forze per continuare la sua strada lungo la storia. Egli precede il suo popolo per mostrargli la via grazie alla sua parola. Coloro che attraversano la storia in compagnia della Chiesa raggiungeranno la meta di tutte le vie, l’eredità eterna di Dio.
