Mis hermanos y hermanas,
La Cuaresma ya está a mitad de camino, ¡ya casi llegamos! Hoy es domingo de Laetare y se espera que tengamos nuestros corazones llenos de gran alegría. Cuando era más joven, pensé que la fuente de esa alegría era el hecho de que pronto ya no estaríamos en un momento de penitencia y abnegación. Si soy completamente honesto, recuerdo claramente haber pensado: "No puedo esperar hasta que termine la Pascua, para que podamos volver a sentirnos cómodos". Ahora veo el Tiempo de Cuaresma y sus sufrimientos de manera muy diferente. No creo que fuimos puestos en este mundo para estar cómodos. Entonces, ¿por qué siempre buscamos consuelo?
Para el cristiano, la alegría de la que se habla en este cuarto Domingo de Cuaresma se encuentra precisamente en el hecho de sentirse incómodo. Paradójicamente, la alegría se encuentra en la cruz, una palabra asociada con el sufrimiento. He venido a experimentar la “dulzura” de la cruz. Nunca elegiría ser sujeto de calumnia. Nunca elegiría ser traicionado. La paradoja radica en el hecho de que me encuentro lleno de gratitud y alegría. Tengo la fuerte sensación de que de alguna manera esto era necesario. Siento la presencia de Dios y no tengo miedo.
Mis pensamientos a menudo regresan al avivamiento, cuando el Diácono Larry Oney nos guio en las oraciones de liberación. Creo que la gratitud y la alegría que estoy experimentando ahora se encuentran en el conocimiento de que esas oraciones de hecho fueron contestadas. ¡Hemos sido liberados! Porque nuestro Dios es un Dios poderoso. ¡La oración que oramos con expectativa ahora se ha cumplido! Porque:
Dios nos ha levantado
Dios nos ha escuchado
Dios nos ha guiado
Dios nos ha elevado
Dios nos ha defendido
Dios nos ha sanado
¡Estamos llenos de la paz, el poder y el amor de Dios!

Pastor’s Corner
My brothers and sisters,
Lent is now halfway over, we are almost there! Today is Laetare Sunday and we are expected to have hearts filled with great joy. When I was younger, I thought the source of that joy was the fact that soon we would no longer be in a time of penance and self-denial. If I’m completely honest, I distinctly remember thinking, “I can’t wait until Easter is over, so that we can get back to being comfortable.” I now see the Season of Lent and its sufferings very differently. I’m not sure we were placed in this world be comfortable. So why do we always seek comfort?
For the Christian, the joy that is spoken of on this fourth Sunday of Lent is somehow found in precisely being uncomfortable. Paradoxically, the joy is found in the cross, a word associated with suffering. I have come to experience the “sweetness” of the cross. I would never choose being the subject of calumny. I would never choose to be betrayed. The paradox lies in the fact that I find myself filled with gratitude and joy. I have a strong sense that somehow this was necessary. I feel the presence of God and I am not afraid.
My thoughts often drift back to the revival, when Deacon Larry Oney led us in prayers of liberation. I think the gratitude and the joy I am now experiencing, is found in the knowledge that those prayers were in fact answered. We have been delivered! For our God is a powerful God. The prayer we prayed with expectation has now come to fulfillment! For:
God has lifted us up
God has heard us
God has lead us
God has elevated us
God has defended us
God has healed us
We are filled with God’s Peace, Power, and Love!
The devil just hasn’t got the memo yet…
