STANDARD FEATURES

Weatherproofing

From top to bottom our Rooftop Air Handlers aredesigned to prevent entry of water into the unit andinto the space below. Standing flanges, raised 1”above the roof, including weatherproof caps andgasketing, protect the seams between adjoiningroof panels. The top panels are pitched to thecabinet sides with no pockets to collect rain. A1 1/2” overhang is provided so that rainwaterflowing from top panels will not drip onto the doortops. All Dunham-Bush RT air handlers are fullyassembled at the factory with no add-on fieldassembled sections. No field applied caulking isrequired.

Weather Panels

All exposed panels, roof and access doors are of18 gauge steel and are provided with the ultimatein all climate finishes. From the mill-galvanized firstlayer to the powder polyester final coat, thiscombination affords an exceptionally attractiveappearance, while providing maximum corrosionprotection...even at seacoast installations.

This specially finished sheet metal does notdeteriorate or even discolor when subjected toa 500-hour salt spray test. This is equivalent tomany years of actual service on the seacoast.

Unit Floor

The floor of the unit insulated with fiberglassinsulation to reduce heat loss and to preventsweating. Cooling coils have their own insulateddrain pan which drain directly to the outside.

Insulation & Gasketing

Absolute air tightness is assured with gasketingfurnished between all metal-to-metal weathersurfaces. No metal-to-metal contact occurs in theexterior panels and frame. Gasketing is closed cellfoam and far superior to caulking (which quicklybreaks down). All external panels and structuralsupport members are insulated. Standardinsulation is both glued and nailed to insurepermanent bonding.

Double Wall Construction

Available on doors and fixed panels. Insulation issandwiched between the inner and outer panelseliminating insulation erosion, facilitating cleaning, and assuring years of trouble-free operation.Double wall construction is a typical requirement inclean rooms.

Double Wall Construction is required on manyhospital and laboratory applications. Theseprojects often utilize 80-95% efficient bag/cartridgefilters in final “final filter” arrangements. The finalfilter section is the last component in the air handlerand all duct work downstream of these filters, generally requires solid liners over insulation. Infact, hospital insurance policies require thisconstruction for certain rooms. Therefore, the finalfilter section of the air handler must have solidliners which DB offers on these sections.

Double Wall Air Handlers provide heavier panelconstruction thanks to the structural advantagesof sandwiching sheet metal around insulation (asopposed to flat, single panels). This heavierconstruction, combined with the DB standardgasketing between adjoining panels and frames, forms a rigid, air tight cabinet.

Insulation is protected from damage andpermanently secured. Field installation of pipingand controls, or just regular maintenance, oftendamages insulation before the construction projectis completed. Eventual air handler re-insulationcosts are almost guaranteed within a few years ofoperation due to insulation damage which causessweating, energy loss and excessive fan noise.Double wall construction eliminates this problem.

Provide proper sound attenuation withperforated liners. The advantages of double wallconstruction are tremendous, however, solid linersprevent acoustical attenuation of fan noise. Solidsheet metal offers virtually no sound reduction. DBoptionally offers perforated liners in order to quietlyprovide the advantages of double wall construction.

Meet New Indoor Air Quality Standards

Exposed insulation presents a rough surface to theconditioned air which becomes a source of dirt andmicroorganism accumulation. Unfortunately, roughinsulation is virtually impossible to clean. If theinsulation coating is torn or damaged, thenfiberglass is exposed to the conditioned air causingmore air quality concerns. DB double wall airhandlers eliminate these air quality problems.

InsulationDunham-Bush RT units are insulated from the airentry end thru to the air leaving end as standard.

Page 13: Roof Mounted Air Handlers · service-ability The flexibility ofDunham-Bush’s modular design allows a full complement of accessory sections to be arranged in virtually any combination.

Insulation Available1”, 1 1/2# density semi-rigid aluminum foil facedfiberglass (standard). Optional include 1”, 3#density coated fiberglass. 5/8” rigid boardpolyurethane aluminum foil faced insulation. 2”, 11/2# density, semi-rigid, neoprene coatedfiberglass.

All insulations are fastened to panels with water-proof adhesive and mechanical fasteners.

Optional 2”, 1 1/2# insulation requires double wallconstruction.

Piping VestibulesTwo piping vestibules are available; a 24” versionfor the heating coil section and a 48” version for thestandard coil section.

To prevent shipping damage, the vestibule isshipped as a kit for field assembly. Since it ismounted in place of either one or two fixedpanels or access doors, the piping vestibuledoes not interrupt the straight line of either theair handler base rail or the roof curb.

Though intended primarily as a pipingvestibule, it may be mounted in any location inwhich fixed panel(s) or access door(s) arenormally located. It thus provides a watertighthousing for any field supplied appurtenance orapparatus which will not fit within the normal airhandler cabinet. Its actual location can bedetermined at the job site.

*Vestibules are not required on cooling only orheating only applications, unless steam heating. Allother applications require vestibule.

Coil SectionThe RT 39 & 48 units have been designed with thesame low silhouette as the RT33 thru the use ofstaggered coils as depicted above. Uniform airdistribution across the entire face of both coils ismade possible by generous spacing of the coils, which permits a mild transition separating the twoair streams.

All other unit sizes are designed as “single bank”with one pipe chase per coil section.

table 5 page 17

FAN RPM & BHP – CORRECTEDFOR AIR DENSITYAll of the fan tables are based on standard airhaving a density of .075 lbs. Per cubic foot.

Since fans are constant volume devices, corrections to RPM and BHP must be made whenthe unit is to deliver other than standard air.

The correction factor is the ratio of the density of airat operating conditions to the density of standardair.

STEPSTo determine Fan RPM and BHP:

1. Determine correction factor at operatingconditions.

2. Unit static pressure is determined by using CFMat operating conditions to calculate airvelocities.

3. External S.P. of standard air at operating CFMequals Ext. S.P. correction factor .

4. Corrected total static pressure = Lines 2 + 3.

5. Enter the proper fan table and determine the fanRPM and BHP at operating CFM and correctedtotal static pressure.

6. Corrected BHP = (BHP from line 5) x correctionfactor.

7. Total S.P. at operating conditions equals:

Corrected TSP (from line 4) x correction factor.Example: RT 33 MA 16,000 CFM at 5000 ft.
