Paisley IB Magnet 1400 Grant Street (Ph) (336) 703-4168 Winston-Salem, NC 27103 (Fax) (336) 727-8315 Dear Selection Committee; It has been my pleasure to know Roscha Scales for the last seven years. I taught her Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry as well as 6 th Grade Robotics. I also often tutored her informally after school. After 28 years of teaching, I can truly say that Roscha “Rocky” Scales is one of my all time favorite students. She excels academically, intellectually, and as a person. I could always count on her to be a sea of calm in a sea of confusion. Miss Scales always tries to do the right thing, even if it is not convenient or cool. She is unfailingly cheerful and positive and a joy to have in class. Her contributions are always positive and insightful. Roscha had a variety of unique viewpoints which gave me some insight into her views and learning styles. Whether an information intensive class such as Biology, an application oriented class such as Chemistry, or a multi-faceted course requiring engineering, programming skills, a vision, and cooperation with a sometimes stubborn partner, Roscha always managed to be an example of excellence. Miss Scales worked hard, worked with others, worked with teachers, and worked until she overcame her obstacles. Roscha wants to learn, and will put in the effort, time and thought to conquer a task or a concept. She pays attention in class, trying to take it all in and create meaning for herself. She was always more likely to come back after school for help than to ask more than a few questions in class. This had two benefits; she absorbs concepts better in a more individualized setting and I got to know her better. www.paisleyms.org From The Desk Of: Kevin Barnard Biology/Chemistry/

Dear Selection Committee;

It has been my pleasure to know Roscha Scales for the last seven years. I taught her Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry as well as 6th Grade Robotics.

As I got to know Roscha, I began to realize what an interesting and unique person she was. A quiet student in class, she was vivacious and upbeat when in an informal setting. She always gave open and honest feedback on what she knew and what she did not, on how much effort she had spent on a subject and what had helped in class or had confused her. I came to really value her opinions, insights, and feedback.

In my teaching career Roscha Scales is unique. She brings a unique set of qualities with her when she enters your room. It is these qualities that make her such a great candidate for your program. I know she can and will excel. I am confident you will come to enjoy and respect her as much as I do. I give her my unreserved and highest recommendation for your program.

Sincerely,

Kevin Barnard
