  • Workshop Programme: Theatre & Dance

    Roscommon County Youth Theatre returns for a new term. Commencing with an open day on September 12th, when casting will also begin for their next production, themed around The 1916 Rising. New members aged 13-24 are welcome, no previous acting experience necessary.

    Catherine Donnelly is a performer and member of Dance Ireland. Her Elderberries dance class for older people, aged 50+ focuses on techniques to improve strength, flexibility and balance. Classes are drop-in and participants should wear supportive comfortable non- slip footwear and clothing.

Simon Carman and Helen Sharp (Roscommon Arts Centre) will present their project Wilderness in Modified Landscape and Pauline OConnell (Leitrim Sculpture Centre) will show The Milk Well & The Tea Well.

    To coincide with the Lollipops Festival, artists Rhona Byrne & Vanessa Donoso Lpez along with Nollaig Molloy & Breda Coyne worked with National Schools in Roscommon to create an installation that will transform the gallery.

    Marias work considers the complexities that structure our everyday environment. Newly commissioned small works have been placed within the existing exhibits of the House, where a more traditional display of her work is also on show.

    CONTEXTS:02 Is an exhibition of works from the Boyle Civic Art Collection, that pick up on the materials, process and aesthetic of McKinneys installation.

    VISUAL ART Programme 2015 OFFSITE EXHIBITIONS & EVENTS

    Ruth Lyons: The Park Research ProjectVisual artist Ruth Lyons will use Lough Key Forest Park and its environs as a site for researching a new art project this autumn. Ruths work is concerned with landscape and for this project, she is interested in how space exploration re-defines our perception of the earth and the space we inhabit. The work produced will be installed in 2016.

    Lollipops CHILDRENs FESTIVALLollipops is Roscommon Arts Centres month-long programme of childrens events, which takes place in October at both the arts centre and at schools around the county. This years programme launch takes place on Saturday October 3rd from 2pm on-wards and youre invited! Join us for The Quiet Tree and lots of cool free activities in the arts centre foyer.

    The Qu ie t TreeThe creatures of Whistleberry Forest have discovered a little oak tree growing deep in the woods. However, there are no birds singing, no leaves rustling, and no animals scurrying around its trunk. Presented by Ceol Connected, this delightful musical takes children and accompanying adults on an adventure through the forest where they explore instruments, sing, and dance, and help Oran the owl, Sorley the snail and Faoln the frog bring a little oak tree to life.

    Me, Michael Tara McKevitt Me, Michael explores the magic and the intelligence of an imaginative child growing up without a father in 1930s Donegal. By sharing his family story, Michael finds a new strength in dealing with prejudice. This charming tale re-frames Brian Friels Dancing at Lughnasa with all the exuberance and insight of the original.Part of the Abbey Theatres Community and Education programme.

    Roger is a musician with two loves: his trumpet and playing with bubbles if only he could get his trumpet to play bubbles! One night in a dream, Roger meets a mischievous fairy from a land of bubbles, who tries to help Roger in this enchanting story. A dynamic and magical performance combining dance, music, projection, and a lot of bubbles....bubbles of all kind: paper, soap, digital, balloon and shadow bubbles.

  • Anna will be on hand for another mask-making workshop, where artistic flare and imaginations are encouraged to run free. So if youre planning on being a goblin, a witch a super-hero or a sparkly princess youll still need a killer headpiece to set off your outfit!

    Tom is renowned for creating large installation pieces for Macnas parades, festivals and community projects. This workshop allows participants to create their very own large paper lanterns, which are designed to hold a small light, making them a great accessory for any Halloween costume or party!

    Roscommon Arts Office has a selection of publications for teachers and this October, were launching our Teachers Resource library. Youre invited to visit our reading area, browse the publications and avail of our free rental scheme. From plays, to books on movement and dance, to writing prompts and musical instruments, weve unearthed some wonderful books to inspire you! Pre-school/Montessori teachers also welcome.

    Working with professional musicians, Simply Musics fun workshops, blend interactive technology with performance. Children will have the opportunity to use percussion instruments and boomwhackers and learn about rhythmic development, instrumental exploration and music making. The day-long sessions are available to two schools outside of a 5 mile radius of Roscommon town and are designed for 1st 6th class students

    The Playboy of The Western World BLUE RAINCOAT THEATRE COMPANY First staged to riots when it opened in the Abbey Theatre in 1907, The Playboy of the Western World is a darkly comic masterpiece, which tells the story of Christy Mahon, who stumbles into a public house in County Mayo claiming he has killed his father. Christy is first celebrated and then reviled for patricide. Blue Raincoat Theatre Company breathe new life into JM Synges most famous and controversial play.

    Susannas Secret& The Human Voice

    Enjoy two short operas celebrating classic 20th century works, sung in English.

    Soprano Rachel Croash and baritone Rory Musgrave perform in Wolf-Ferraris Susannas Secret; a stylish, comedy opera built on marital misunderstanding - A man suspects his wife is having an affair when he smells cigarette smoke from her clothes, and strives to discover her secret with hilarious consequences!

    Poulencs The Human Voice, stars soprano Kim Sheehan as a young woman who is driven to the point of desperation as she tries to connect with her ex-lover over the telephone. A deep and emotional depiction of the aftermath of a relationship, these performances are a perfect introduction to opera and a must-see for opera lovers.

    Tuesday Friday 10am 5.00pm

    Saturdays: 2pm 5pm on performance days only.

    On performance evenings, box office hours: 7.15pm 8.30pm.

    The Gallery is open to the public during centre opening hours.

    Please note tickets should be collected at least fifteen minutes before the advertised start time. Alternatively tickets can be collected from the box office during opening hours.

    RESERVATIONS:Reservations will be held pending payment until 48 hours before a performance. Group reservations are held until one week before a performance. In order to comply with fire regulations, each person, even babies, must have a valid ticket for performances. Please check your reservation at time of booking as there is room for human error and mistakes cannot always be rectified at a later stage.There are no refunds or exchanges on tickets, unless events are cancelled/re-scheduled. If you are unable to attend an event please contact us and we will endeavour to assist you.

    DISABLED PATRONS:Roscommon Arts Centre welcomes patrons with disabilities and can accommodate up to 8 wheelchair users at each performance. Patrons who are physically disabled, hearing, or visually impaired must be escorted to events. As a courtesy the escort will be given a complimentary ticket to attend. These tickets, as well as wheelchair locations are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please inform the Box Office of your seating needs at time of booking.

    Although animals are not permitted in the arts centre, an exception is made for guide dogs and service animals, the box office should be made aware of such accommodations at time of booking Please note the arts centre does not have elevators or escalators; the gallery and workshop spaces are not wheelchair accessible.

    LATECOMERS:We regret to inform you that latecomers are not admitted under any circumstances. This policy is stated clearly on the back of all tickets and as part of the online booking facility which you agree to, by clicking acceptance of the terms and conditions. Staff also inform patrons at time of booking.

    Shows commence promptly at the advertised start time. Roscommon County Councils Code of Conduct for Customers and members of the public, clearly states the harassment of staff and behaviour which is disruptive will not be accepted and in this instance you will be asked to leave the premises.

    PAYMENT:Payment can be made by cash, debit card or cheque. Cheques should be made payable to Roscommon County Council.

    TICKET PRICES:Where an alternative price is advertised, this applies to children & young people, full time students, senior citizens (65+), the unwaged (with social welfare cards), the disabled and to those with restricted mobility. ID cards may be required.

    LAST LAUGH COMEDY CLUBLast Laugh Comedy Club is an over 16s event unless otherwise advertised. ID cards may be required.
