He delivered an excellent presentation which was of great inter- est to all of us. I heard excellent feedback from our members. Just don’t all rush off on trips at once! We need some members at the meetings. We also must thank our large number of guests: Brian Kimpton, Emily Williams, June Nobes, Wolfe Fritz, Helen Phillips, Pat Seager, Joy Lea, Monica Hofmann, Rewa Jones and Shirley Mirams. Richard Jones, Chris D’Arcy and I attended the Beaumaris Lions Changeover night - the first time ever Rotary members have visited a Beaumaris Li- ons meeting. They have an uncanny similarity to Rotary. They are 22 in number and contribute around $15,000 a year to primarily local needs. We should maintain contact and look for opportunities to work together. Their President for 2014 / 2015 is Deborah Lillie. Key tips for a Vibrant Club
We are continuing to broker the issue with Council on the Farmers Market, and hope to better understand exactly what Council needs to have to sign off on the market. David Lea and Malcolm Sawle have been work-ing on updating our website and Facebook page. Take the time to have a look, provide feedback and ideas, plus on Facebook, be will-ing through David to add stories, photos. Also like and share so the multiplier effect works with all the connections we collectively have. Next meeting we have Alan Grant speaking on “Antarctic Project Management”. Adrian Cul-shaw will chair the meeting.

Stand in Editor / Web Master Re-quired
Your Editor will be away on two occasions during 2015. From 11 to 22 January and from 14 July to 18 August. During those time periods I will need someone to prepare the weekly In Gear and to provide any Web Master services which are regarded as being of critical importance. Based upon experience this year all of the chang-es to the web site which are needed post Change-over will be completed prior to my departure so only routine servicing should be required. Based upon past experience it is easiest for me to leave my laptop with, all the attendant software, to be used while I am away. I have already prepared briefing notes on what needs to be done and there is plenty of time for training prior to me going away. Do not be afraid that you will be left holding the baby; I am not planning to relinquish the posi-tion any time soon!!! Anyone with reasonable computer usage skills would be able to learn the role with a little help. If you are interested in helping out please let me know.

This Week’s Speaker; Stuart Ingram
Topic: Trends in Travel
Stuart Ingram is the Managing Director of Des-
tination HQ a local travel agency. He has vast
industry experience having worked in the air-
line, wholesale and retail travel agency sectors
of the industry. Stuart loves to travel and to
share his excitement and passion for travel with
anyone he meets. Having travelled to Europe,
Africa, Asia, South America, North America and
throughout Australia/NZ, Stuart has a wealth of
destination knowledge. His favourite destina-
tions are Bangkok, Phuket, Paris, San Francis-
co and New York City.
Stuart spoke with great enthusiasm and insight
about the changes which have occurred in the
industry over the last 20 years;
� Ansett is no longer with us
� Qantas market share out of Australia has
gone from 46% to 18%
� Gulf Air was the predominant air line in
the Middle East now it is a relative min-
now having been overtaken by Emirates,
Etihad and Qatar.
� Emirates fleet has grown from 26 to 225
with plans to be well over 300 by the end
of the decade.
� No European airlines fly to Melbourne an-
ymore
� The number of flights to Singapore has
grown from 7 to 49 per week.
� While once there were no flights to China
now there are 46 non stop flights per
week.
� Chinese tourist numbers have grown from
0.6 to 108 million with Australia being their
expressed preferred destination.
� Dubai is now the world’s busiest interna-
tional airport (Atlanta is the busiest alto-
gether including domestic).
� Sadly the trend towards low cost airlines
has seen comfort lost as seat pitch has
reduced in Economy from 33.4” to 31.6”.
� However if you have the money you can
book a 3 room cabin on Etihad from the
Middle East to London for $21K.
� With the rise of the internet the use of
travel agents has declined from 94% to
57% although there has been a recent
kick up in the USA.
� Travel styles and destinations have
changed markedly from the old days of
Trafalgar bus trips around Europe.
� Cruising, river trips, Antartica, Global 747
tours, environmental specialisation are
just some of the tends which have
emerged.
� Companies such as the local APT have
evolved to ride this wave and have just
purchased three ships.
Stuart also spoke about the added value which
he believes that a specialist travel agent could
still bring their clients, including;
� Awareness of opportunities and specials
not available on the internet,
� First hand knowledge of destinations
through having staff who regularly visit
them,
� Specialised tours,
� Making sure that all the details are proper-
ly documented and in place before the trip
commences,
� Expert assistance in emergency recovery
situations if things do go wrong.
