President Esther

We had another very informative “Introduction to Rotary” evening last Monday night. Thank you Cherie for your efforts to issue invitations to guests and your preparation for the evening.

Thank you Directors for your overview of your portfolio. Not forgetting Angelo and Gavin telling us about their experience as Rotarians over many years.

Members don't forget to chat to those who you invited to see if they would like to come along to more meetings and maybe make the commitment to becoming a member of our great club.

Saturday sees our joint fundraiser with The Avengers Relay for Life Team at Orana Cinemas for a special 1pm screening of The Lego Movie.

Toyworld Kalgoorlie have been very supportive providing vouchers to be used as a door prize and raffle prizes. I can't wait after having seen the preview at a movie earlier in the week!

It's a very busy weekend in our community with the Community Fair, the state launch of National Youth Week at the City’s Youth Fest which means a visit by the Youth Minister, a netball round robin to start the season, Flickerfest, Sleuth at Stage Left Theatre Company and much more that I can't remember just now.

I can remember a time when the weekends would come around and you would think what are we going to do this weekend? Now it's a matter of deciding which activity you are going to attend.

Sunday sees us partnering with KBULG to propagate seedlings for future tree plantings. Members from the Rotary Club of Boulder will be joining us for the morning. We will enjoy a sausage sizzle and additional fellowship to finish off the morning.

Monday night will see us at the St John Ambulance Centre in lower Hannan Street to tour through their new centre. Lloyd is arranging fish and chips for our dinner. If you have not already let Lloyd know that you will be attending please do as soon as you can.

On Sunday 13 April will be the second Combined Service Clubs Breakfast at Hammond Park. Monday we will send a list around to establish who will be attending. I am not going to be able to attend as I will be busy judging entries at the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Autumn Flower Show.

Enjoy the rest of your week whilst you Engage Rotary, Change Lives.

Trustee Chair’s Message

Dong Kurn (DK) Lee Trustee Chair 2013-14

Celebrate Magazine Month. Today, with Rotary's club membership spanning more than 200 countries and geographical areas, its publications are more vital than ever. The RI Board of Directors has designated April of every year as Magazine Month, and it is a time to recognize the role that our Rotary publications play in our Rotary lives – and the role that we should play in our publications. The Rotarian, which is edited here at RI headquarters in Evanston, Ill., USA, has a circulation of about 500,000. Around the world, 31 more magazines are published in more than 20 languages. In total, these 32 magazines reach more than 1.2 million people. To make this happen, it takes more than just an editorial staff – it also takes the good work of Rotarians. I always feel that the best part of reading any Rotary publication is the opportunity to find out what other clubs are doing. Each issue, each article, is a chance to be informed and inspired. In an era when electronic communication seems to be everywhere, the role of paper magazines is still important to our organization, but we must be open to new formats to get the word out. That's why, this April, I encourage you all to explore The Rotarian magazine's new digital experience: TheRotarianMagazine.com. Email the stories to friends and family. Share them on Facebook and Twitter. This is a chance to take the great ideas and great work of Rotarians even further and to inspire future generations to do the same.

We had another successful “Introduction to Rotary” on Monday 31 March.

Guests Narelle Hodges, Debra Hodges, Sandra McMahon, Karen Thomas and Tina Bryce; along with transferring Rotarian Ken Maisey and his wife, Charmaine; joined us to find out what we’re all about.

President Esther and the Directors gave an overview of Rotary and the various portfolios and Gavin and Angelo spoke about their individual experiences as Rotarians.

We also took the opportunity to watch to videos. One of RI President Ron Burton speaking about membership and the popular “Thank You Rotary” which always brings an emotional response.

By all accounts our guests enjoyed their evening and we are hoping that we will be receiving requests to join our club in the near future.
