Rotary Children's Library Association (RCLA) has been Rotary Mysore's pet project. RCLA has 335 life members and 1115 student members.

Dear Rotarians,

RCLA is a true exemplar of what

Rotary Mysore stands for.

Knowledge is universal and has to

be shared by everyone. RCLA has

stood the test of time and its

precincts today are home to not

only Rotary meetings of various clubs but also to a

huge number of congregations and discussions.

Any given day would likely see a couple of

engagements at least.

The introduction of an e-library at RCLA tingles

my nerves. E-books and e-zines take less time and

resources to publish and could be made available to

a global audience in a short time. It is the best

example of anyone anytime anywhere learning.

Suffice to say that e-books are the future. And that

we are on the right track.

LIONS HOSTROTARIANS

It happens only in Mysore! The Lions of Mysore West hosted us on a Saturday night of camaraderie, fellowship and sumptuous high dinner. It was literally a magical occasion!

The joint meeting between our two clubs on Saturday brought old friends together and helped make new friends. Fellowship was the key where the members of the two clubs met, exchanged notes, shared with and befriended each other. The following service project was jointly conducted by both clubs on the occasion - Donation of Solar heater equipment and Water Tank to Mysore City Jail. This was symbolically initiated by the two Presidents.

Ln. Gururaj called for a joint trust to conduct a permanent project between the clubs. This was endorsed among others by PDG Rtn. R. Guru. Ln. Ashwini Ranjan called for help to improve conditions of slum-dwellers. On behalf of Rotary Mysore, Community Services Director Rtn. Manjesh donated the cost of 20 times dialysis to recipient K. Siddaiah. Presidents Rtn. Ananthraj Urs and Ln. Dr. Sathish Kumar and the Hon. Secretaries of both clubs were on the dais. The program culminated with a magic show, followed by fellowship, cocktail and dinner hosted by the Lions. Thank you Lions West!

Long live the friendship between our two clubs!

A twist in the tail – some points of note:• The Lions start late, usually at 8 pm.• The equivalent of our rather sombre

Sergeant-at-Arms is the Tail Twister.• The Lion Ladies present were almost as

many in number as the Lions. A rather different scenario from ours.

• They meet twice a month.

The month of April is annually designated

as "Rotary's Magazine Month," an occasion to recognize and promote the reading and use of the official RI magazine, The Rotarian, and the regional magazines, which make up the Rotary World Press.

THE ROTARIAN has been around since 1911 as the medium to communicate with Rotarians and to advance the program and Object of Rotary. A primary goal of the magazine is to support and promote key programs of Rotary. The magazine also disseminates information about the annual

theme and the philosophy of the RI president, major meetings, and the emphasis of the official "months" on the Rotary calendar.

The Rotarian provides a forum in which both Rotary-related and general interest topics may be explored. The magazine serves as an excellent source of information and ideas for programs at Rotary club meetings and district conferences. Many articles promote international fellowship, goodwill and understanding. Regular readers usually have superior knowledge of the activities of

In addition to THE ROTARIAN, the Rotary World Press includes 29 regional magazines printed in 21 languages with a combined circulation of almost half a million. Although each regional publication has its own unique style and content, they all provide Rotarians with up-to-date information and good reading all through the year. (In Australia, the regional magazine is Rotary Down Under.)

Annette Gokul Chittaranjan's paper written in Switzerland is making waves in far away Chicago. The paper is titled “Classifying Personality Traits with Smartphones” where Gokul and team extrapolate human personality traits (Extroversion, Agree-ableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability and Openness to Experience) based on smartphone data collected over 17 months. This information would

be used by Nokia for personalizing services on smartphones. Comments Lior Strahilevitz from far away University of Chicago:“Chittaranjan and co-authors brilliantly show that it is straightforward to mine data from smart-phones in an automated way so as to identify particular "Five Factor" personality types in a large population of users…It's very unlikely that the phenomenon that Chittaranjan et al. identify is limited to phones. I expect that similar patterns could be identified from analyzing peoples' use of their computers, their automobiles, and their television sets. The Chittaranjan et al. study is a fascinating, tantalizing, and perhaps horrifying early peek at life in a Big Data world.”Congrats to Annette Gokul and proud father PP Chittaranjan! Thanks Gokul for pointing out that we are neither human beings in spiritual form nor spiritual beings in human form, but that we are all smartphones in human form! J

Lawyers rip-offs:

When the man in the street says: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," the lawyer writes:"Insofar as manifestations of functional deficiencies are agreed by any and all concerned parties to be imperceivable, and are so stipulated, it is incumbent upon said heretofore mentioned parties to exercise the deferment of otherwise pertinent maintenance procedures."

*****What's the difference between a good lawyer and a bad lawyer? A bad lawyer can let a case drag on for several years. A good lawyer can make it last even longer.

An applea day…

An applea day…

•feel safe and provides a strong foundation on which to build our dreams.

• Keep a day-per-page diary – note down miscellaneous details you need to remember.

• Make a limbo box – for papers you are not sure whether to keep or not, cleaning the box out periodically.

• Do one of the four Ds – Do it, Delegate it, Dump it, or Defer it.

• Delegate upward when necessary – delegate to where the decision-making power is.

• Do one task each day that you do not like doing – spread the load, avoiding a backlog of unpleasant tasks.

• Complete small tasks adequately – rather than perfectly. Concentrate on the more important tasks at hand.

• Give yourself mini-deadlines – each day for the completion of open-ended tasks.

• Make notes on your mistakes – avoid making the same mistakes twice.

• When making a phone call – have all the relevant documents to avoid “information impasse.”

• Get to know your computer – different programs, features, short-cuts.

• Regularly save your work on your computer – save every few minutes; back up your work at the end of every day.

• Learn speed reading – absorb the essence of a text without getting bogged down in the words.

• Cultivate positive challenges – not negative ones. Focus on the challenge of the task.
