MONTH
Visiting Rotarian, Babette Sisler,
along with guests, Scott Evans
Executive Director of the Boy Scouts Director of the Boy Scouts Arrowhead
Arrowhead Chapter, and Spencer
Kilgore from Ohio Valley Teen
Challenge, joined the Rotary Club of
Warren for Fellowship on August 15th.
John Robertson once again dazzled us
with stories, the first of which was about an executive, who happened to
be a mobster, and his accountant! The mobster executive’s
accountant embezzled $10 million
from him. The accountant was deaf,
so when the mobster went to confront the accountant about his missing $10
million, he brought an attorney who knew sign language with him. After
repeatedly being asked, “Where’s my money?”, the accountant signed, “I don’t
know!”. The mobster executive pointed his gun at the accountant, who finally
signed that the money was under his wife’s grave and provided directions to
the cemetery. The mobster asked the attorney, “What did he say?”, to
which the attorney replied, “He doesn’t think you have the guts to pull the
trigger.”
One winter day, a teacher of a first grade class was getting her
students ready to go home. One little boy was struggling to put his boots on.
The teacher tried to help him, but it was also difficult for her to get them
on. The little boy says, “Well, these aren’t my boots.” So the teacher pulls
the boots off. The boy then tells the teacher, “They used to be my
brother’s. Mom made me wear them.” The teacher helped the child put the
boots back on again. When she asked the boy, “Where are your gloves?”, the
boy replied, “Inside my boots!”

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IN WARREN – is August 21st. If you are
able to help greet children as they head back to school, contact Christine
Cope.
THANK YOU – to Barry Dunaway for helping to bring Yo-Yo Ma to the
area Warren Amphitheatre!
AUGUST IS ROTARY INTERNATIONAL MEMBERSHIP MONTH – We
have inducted one new member this year, with several more in the
pipeline! All members are encouraged to invite guests to join them for
our meetings and educate them about the benefits of joining Rotary!
THE ROTARY CLUB OF WARREN WELCOMES SPENCER KILGORE -
Spencer Kilgore was inducted as our
Club’s second new member for Rotary
Year 2018-2019. He grew up in
Warre Warren and indicated that some of his
fondest childhood memories are about
the playing kick ball and baseball with
friends near the Warren Village
apartments. Spender moved back to
our area approximately two months
ago to work for Ohio Valley Teen
Challenge. Challenge, and he is excited to be a
part of serving our community. Please
take a few moments to get to know
Spencer and welcome him to our
Rotary Rotary family at our next meeting.
A SPECIAL TRIBUTE – Jim Ditch has been an advocate of The Rotary
Foundation for quite some time. He received his Paul Harris Fellow award
in July 2013. No “little Jack Horner” was Jim. He did not stick in his
thumb, pull out a plum and say, “what a good boy am I” and sit there
admiring his Paul Harris Fellow pin. Rather, Jim continued his annual
giving to the Foundation. That devotion, dedication, and generosity has
resulted in Jim’s now having given sufficient funds for a second Paul
Harris Fellow. Jim has
designated this Paul Harris
Fellow to be in memory of
his mother, Esther Robbie
Ditch.
As you know, Jim was a
banker before his
retirement, and bankers are

award is rende known for their being astute and moneywise. He has recognized the
efficiency and value of The Rotary Foundation and its motto of doing good in the world.
We thank and admire Jim for his continued generosity and
support of The Foundation. Jim’s new Paul Harris Fellow pin
contains one blue stone. This is called a “Plus 1” pin, designating his
having funded two Paul Harris Fellows. We hope he wears it proudly
as an indication of his generosity, and, hopefully, as an incentive to others to “go and do likewise”.
Jim, The Rotary Foundation thanks you, the people in need
around the world thank you, and we thank you, a fellow club member,
for being a good Rotarian.
Many thanks, also, to Dallas Woodall, for his inspiring and
heartfelt presentation of Jim’s award.

play games including brain teasers and riddles. Two rooms involve treasure hunt themes, the Egyptian Tomb and Captain’s Quarters, and a
third room immerses individuals in a Murder Mystery. An off-site option,
Room in a Box, is also offered to consumers with larger groups of people,
such as such as businesses. In this situation, the group is given manipulatives to
work through as a team in order to reach a common goal. Each game is
designed to last up to one hour, and people six years of age to 86 years of
age seem to enjoy it! All clues are layered to make people of different skill
levels interact. Patrons don’t escape the room; the room is the escape.
It provides a chance for everyone to connect with family and friends. In
addition, corporations are offered team building exercises, as well as
practice and feedback about organizational and higher level thinking skills.
Escape NE Ohio was established in Warren because the
owners love the community and are excited about the resurgence and
investment taking place in the downtown area. 50% of the Escape room
patrons come from outside of our county. For this reason, Escape NE Ohio
offers “Make a Day of It”. They provide customers with a map of
Downtown Warren and encourage individuals to try out other establishments
which offer dining, overnight accommodations, and shopping at a reasonable
cost. Furthermore, giving back is important to Sisler and Woodyard. In
fact, they have donated to more than 50 organizations since opening one
year ago.
If you are interested in booking a private party, having a fun night out
with family and friends, or engaging colleagues in a team building
adventure, you can find more details at www.EscapeNEOhio.com.
